I’m not even into cars really. But as a young lad of 43 I remember the cosworth well and I’m enjoying watching these videos. My mates dad had a black 500 until someone robbed it the wrong uns. Always loved the recaro seats. 👍🏼
Must have been a bit of a minefield buying a 30 year old sports car. This one’s paid off. I’m liking your honest, no nonsense approach to these videos. Keep it up.
I have zero interest in cars but find myself on lockdown watching this video because it was trending so clicked on it and have really enjoyed it, thanks!
Every 1 is an expert arnt they. "Your jet wash to close" "You need some1 to detail that car" Rah rah rah ffs!!🤣🤣 Its pretty obvious u know exactly wot your talking about . Great vid u know I actually like it more with t little imperfections
i was going to write exactly this......dont bother your arse responding to every "expert".. bloody hose too close on a car you are going to respray, piss off
The new jet washers are low power health and safety I think, ive got and old Karcher you have to keep two hands on the lance, sticker on it says do not use on tyres.
Thanks for the close up on the Cossie, Rob. I was pleased you highlighted the jubilee clip hose issue, rather than leave us all screaming "leak!" Keep the video coming and the walking exercise. Stay safe. Cheers Mike
Who are the morons that are giving the thumbs down. If you dont enjoy it, don't tune in. I've only just found this channel and it's one of the current best car channels on RU-vid. Theres only so many times you can watch wheeler dealer re runs on tv, this channel Is way more detailed and real. Who wouldn't enjoy watching a cossie being brought back to life. Keep up the good work salvage rebuilds. Would love to see you hunt down an old mk 2 rs turbo, xr2 or mk 1 astra gte.
I had some nice cars back in the 80's like my Mk1 Escort, 3.0ltr S Capri , 2.8I Capri, RS Turbo etc but the one that escaped me due to family life was the Cossie so good on you guys for sharing your story. Will be following you throughout the restoration process.
Words can’t explain how jealous I am, I would give my left but to have this Cossie, I’m sure this will look amazing when it’s finished. Can’t wait to watch this project. Keep up the great work!
loving this series, these cars and engines were the british kings when i was growing up. doing a great job being down to earth and answering viewers questions.
It would be awesome if once lock down is over and done with, you do a collab with Autoshine Cars in Blackpool for the interior. Obviously it's not a cost effective thing to do regularly but as a one off video it would be really nice to see.
This brings back memories of me and my dad working on an old 3 door sierra 1600.. we did a cosworth replica with a 2 litre pinto engine.. yellow shocks might be Koni from that era.. ours wasnt as good by any means but it was fun at the time. Sadly my dad passed away a couple of weeks ago but happy memories thanks guys ❤
Well said below.you don't pull a car out of a barn and expect it to shine like a diamond . I just love your patience . answering everybody's questions.i love it the way it is.its been used.every body panel tells a story..it will never be concourse level. It's people like you rob make RU-vid great.
It’s because its had a repaint in cold conditions, the moisture gets under the paint and after time they raise up forming the blisters, had similar problem on a car i bought yrs back. It deserves a nut and bolt resto
99% of subscribers inc myself have never owned or even driven a cossie so dont listen to the noise from us dreamers . You do what you want with your car & thank you for sharing it with us
I am enjoying the car rebuilds and the Sierra Cosworth is going to be great to watch as you restore it back to it's former glory Rob. You would have known what you were buying into and the fact that there was a good chance that a complete professional respray was going to be necessary with this Cosworth and a fair number of other things to be done as well. As long as you bought the car at the right price and factored in the necessary renovation costs you won't or you shouldn't go too far wrong with this car and of course the most important thing is......they 'aint building anymore of them.... are they.
When you get close to the car, it's obvious that it needs body repair and a full repaint, anything else wouldn't do the car justice. Engine sounds sweet now though, lots of fun left in that. Well done on the 110k subs too, stay safe guys 👍
I think those blisters are a sign of a bad repaint. I've seen that before when you don't apply a sealer on old paint before applying newer chemistry paints. Yes, it will need a full paintjob to deal with the blisters, but the real issue is that you will have to take ALL the old paint off to make sure it doesn't come back. BTDT - I've restored 9 cars to date and bodywork is the most time consuming & expensive thing. Overall, however, it's in really good shape, not much rust. Still, the easiest way would be to soda blast it, but that would require removing almost everything - a huge job.
Paintwork is expensive, but the prep work is like 90per cent. So if you can at least get it ready for someone to paint, it should be a little cheaper. Great video as always 👍
Just imagine when this is stripped out and flattened down, panels repaired, engine bay cleaned up, hoses replaced, general repairs done, lifted back up, a cracking paint job and valet. Wow what a car. What an investment
Rob seen as it’s been stowed away for so long it seems like a solid car, you and Chris have the know how and patience to do a full restoration on an absolute 80,s classic, done like everything you’ve done before, it would be worth a small fortune and the joy it would bring would be immense, stay safe fellas.
Thanks for the video and providing this Road race fan with a glimpse at his dream car. Being in the USA, we can not touch a True RS Cosworth for less than 50K US$. The parts are ridiculous expensive to import and the clone body parts are not made anymore on this side of the Atlantic. Our Merkurs XR4ti's never looked as good and the engine Ford gave us well, we won't talk about!! LOL
Thanks for the video. Helping to keep us all entertained during these tough times. Need to get all the mechanicals sorted then a good glass out respray to do the old girl justice.
It's about what you'd expect for a 1980's car that's never been properly looked after. Unfortunately many people buy these cars and don't have the money to look after them. This needs a full strip down, acid dip and start from scratch.
@@peternufc1981 I'd say your not going to see much change out 30 grand at the very least. I'm a close follower of Pete c on project bramble, and it costs him around 20-30 grand to do a cortina restro himself without Labour costs..😳
@@peternufc1981 Yeah, he might be able to get away with a light restro, which will last for 10 years or so but in order to bring her back as new, and to ensure she lasts another 30 years, it's a full strip, full dip, welding (It will need welding the body will be like a sieve) and a full re galv, prime, paint, retrim, engine refresh...Yeah a lot of time and money
What a wonderful car. Fully deserves to be restored to A1 condition & kept/loved for many years to come. A piece of classic sports car heritage, & a rare one, as most of these were smashed up back in the day!
Its had a respray in the past and got moisture in the paint. It needs a good quality paint job it's a honest car in my opinion and a nice find. Looking forward to the next video.
Indeed. Plenty of places will give it a blowover for a couple of grand to make it look decent for a couple of years but this needs stripping down fully and doing properly, they are valuable cars now and only a proper job will stand the test of time.
I love this channel. No BS about trying to be a youtuber. However your smashing a lot of people who do take themselves too seriously as youtubers 😂 Well done mate for over 100k subs.
Great car. Took me back to my childhood. Remember my my bother working on his and all the books he had on it. That and a Ford cortina. I'm useless with cars but thanks for sharing ur knowledge 😊
Who was the previous owner. Colin Mcrae?. Looking like a long time restoration project you have there.strip it to a shell and do a proper ground up job.well worth it in the end
That’s why I don’t doo cars my heart starts to sink when I see another job to do then another and another etc etc etc Good luck tho lads it’s going to be a good one ☝️ All good things
Rob, those micro blisters look like some sort of reaction when the car was repainted. Definitely needs a repaint . Great little video.keep up the good work and stay safe. 🙏👍
micro blisters are usually the result of painting a car on the cheap as in not using an oven, and being painted in a open unit or garage, thats why you dont see them on factory painted cars as they are painted in a controlled environment
That was how the paintwork on my j reg xr21 was. Plus it needed a lot of welding for the mot. I thought we scrapped it about 15 years ago but recently had a letter off the Dvla as though someone’s trying to do something with it and I’m still registered keeper. My dad would know but can’t ask him as he passed away. Just sent a reply saying I believe I scrapped the vehicle. Excellent videos thanks.
The big brakes explain those wheels. The standard wheels will never fit over them. Had the same issue when putting a set of standard wheels on my Saab for the winter and they would not go over the Maptun discs and calipers
Fair play Rob and Chris. Your videos are addictive. This Cossie is a lot like my car which I ended up getting a restorer to completely strip down. Any how, just really enjoy all your feeds. Keep up the great work, hopefully you are boosting your wages while tidying up some motors in need of TLC.
Good video . Anyone out there who knows there stuff knows the only way too go with that car is a full strip down and restoration and yes that includes paint . Great work can't wait for the further updates
@@justbreakingballs second that..also been following High Peak Autos too. Good ,down to earth content. The US youtubers are great, but sometimes i really relate..🤔 maybe I'm affected by Neocolonialism
The Sierra is a survivor and overall is in great condition . For a 30 year old car . A lot would be completely rusted out , great content keep up the great work, enjoy watching your vids .
Undoubtedly the car needs a full respray, only when your back to bare metal you will know what you have, a proper paint job now a days can be very expensive.
Great videos. People always have an opinion when they have no ideal of the details (paint quality for example) so don’t let it annoy you. Looking forward to the videos
I think its definitely had a respray but been done by a cowboy. The paint has fisheyes and looks terrible. I would give it a another full respray but do it properly
I'm not a painter but its defo had a respray at some point, my brothers black audi rs4 needed a rear quarter painting once, went to a quality garage who did what looked like a pukka job, really looked factory but only months later these bubbles started to appear, they repainted it again and said there was water in the line last time, don't know how true that is
@@tompirozek4490 yeah that's what causes it. I've currently got my bike fairings heading back for paint after the microblisters. They can take months to appear also 😒
Getting into these videos - looked at other cars rebuilds Great to see old school car repairs - diagnostics and fault finding great 👍 not throwing money at it - but logically working through !
The 'repairs' to the door locks could be due to them being damaged by attempted theft. A guy I worked with bought a Cossie around 1988 and had it stolen 3 times in 8 months. After the 3rd time he sold it as he couldn't leave it anywhere!
Allan Davies same ! I owned a red RS turbo escort And I might as well have left the doors open and the key in the ignition. Getaway car for potential ram raiders. If you were around Newcastle in the late 80’s
I seem to recall that the Sierras of South Africa were V8's, or so I read, never got to see any pictures. I live in NZ, our Sierras years ago would have been just as yours. Quite a rare site on the road now, down under ! 😁😄👌👍
I grew up when these were around one of my mates had a sapphire Cossie it's a dream find loving the content you got me hooked it's in great shape they were known as Dagenham dustbins for a reason. Keep up the great work looking forward to the next vid from you
could be or its micro blisters from moisture in primer coat.....from either wet sanding a bad quality primer.....or moisture from compressor i.e no air dryer or painted in an ill equipped shop
@@kaisersoze5236 it's definitely water contamination from the airline, had the exact same effect a couple of times when I worked as a panel beater, it's a pain in the ass because it takes a while to show through
@@adeh503 yes can take anything from weeks to months to make it to sirfave depending on environment/sunlight.....23 years at autobody i've seen it all and still learning 👍
The car looks really good especially as I am a Ford fan. Like with all your projects I am going to enjoy the progress you make. This car really will look awesome when your done with it. What a find.
