Toe link on left rear wheel at 53 mph on I-95 in the Bronx, NY. Luckily for me there were no other cars around me. I was driving a Lincoln MKT. The car made an abrupt left turn send. The car into the Jersey barrier on the median, it turn around and went across my side of the highway. This happened on February 19, 2020. Boy does that seat belt pull you in. When the car finally stopped I took off the seat belt and opened the door. Many people stopped by but only one got out and asked me if I was all right . My response “was the car on fire”. He said no and I said then I’ll sit right here. The police, ambulance and fire truck responded to the scene and I was taken to the hospital. The car was totaled.

Man this is impeccable timing. I have a 2010 Ford Flex and a couple weeks ago I put my summer wheels back on. I gave the suspension a good look over because I am getting odd tire wear. Brother, this is one of the best tech videos so far. A week ago , i experienced issue like this with my Ford Explorer 2016 2.3 ecoboost limited. I was on a smooth road in the city and after the traffic stop, i was accelerating while I heard a bang sound from the right of my car. Then I felt like I was driving when the parts of the right wheels were broken. I stopped to check if there were anything wrong, but noticed nothing weird. I continued slowly and it happened again after a short while. This time seemed harder so i pulled over and turned off the engine. Without noticing anything weird, i continued driving slowly and it just ran normally. The day after I had it inspected by a non-Ford mechanic. They did a test drive and inspect the bottom parts, but said everything is great. Still concerned while driving. I didn't go to Ford cuz i bought mine used from someone who imported it from the US himself not from the local dealership. Any recommendations?

Had same issue in 2017. It was scary when you would break at high speeds. Took it to my local ford dealership and they told me it was the “aftermarket rotors and brakes”. I knew it was bull crap. Took it to another place and they told me it was the calipers failing. I knew that was true either. 8 months later took it to Naperville auto center and they found it was the rear toe going bad. Paid $300 for job and alignment. But glad you where able to share this with us!!

Many thanks for posting this. The recall in the Great White North was June 2019. I never got a notification for my 2012 Taurus SEL (it is covered here). Back end has been jumping all over the place every time I hit a bump. Replacement now booked for early June. Update 11 June '20: The replacement parts they had in stock had hairline cracks. Ford has now recalled ALL of the parts supplied to deal with the original recall. This is North America Wide. They are waiting for delivery of new versions of the part.

I just had my 2013 Explorer SLT recall completed (19S17). The new ones look NICE!! I have pics of the new ones installed but not sure how to post it. Bottom line is they look exactly like the ones in the video - no weld, all one piece at that end. Glad to have that done!! The dealer did try to up-sell a front end alignment (barely off), replacing the Rear Upper Control Arm Bushings ("Excessive Play"), and doing a rear brake job at $240, but I declined since I knew I could do the brake job for $50 and check the Upper Control Arms at that time. No play at all when testing per the video... Grrrr. Is it any wonder I don't trust dealerships? BTW, thank you for the video!! It gave me the needed knowledge to make sure I did not get ripped off.

@@jamesplotkin4674 Yes. That idea to weld the socket to the rod/shaft part is not well thought out. The new replacement one should have been the way to go from the beginning. I'm thinking that this is an in house part, and as for the failure rate, it has more to do with the condition of our roads in this country than bad engineering. The random potholes, especially on the interstates is of epidemic proportions. Cruising at 70mph, and hitting some of these monsters it's easy to see why parts can't withstand it.

Mark K my Toyota hasn’t fallen apart and it drives the same roads. As stated above, Ford sets the specs for the suppliers, if they want better they pay more if they want to increase profits they spec out crappy welded parts instead of the obviously better second part. If we have to we do it at our shop, but it does take very special circumstances for us to do so. That is on the actual chassi and whatnot, extra lights etc we put on all the time. Anyway, we very rarely accept non original parts because they're usually garbage, but in a pinch like last year when the main parts house was basically shut down for 5 months and now during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic shutting down parts manufacturers we're being a bit more lenient. Luckily we had enough stock to pull through the worst of it.

In this case, the non-OEM part will like be better than what is currently on the vehicle. A fracturing weld is definitely safety concern.

Question, 2007 ford escape v6 I put in a new subframe rotors, pads, shocks, lower control arms, truck is sturdy, but when braking forward, slight jurking, O.i had a broken spring passenger side when the subframe rotted out, could this be a bad control bushing or bad shock tower, GLEN. Thanks for your chanel, it is one of the best..

Have one in the shop today and the ball socket popped out while we were knocking the tire off of the hub😅 very rusty here in central Illinois. The bolt is so rusted and stripped the weld nut/clip.. i will have to torch / cut the bushing and bolt out as there is no other access to the nut or bolt..

Huh, I have been having this exact problem with my 2010 SHO I thought I had a sticking caliper, but I just checked and I have a failed toe link. Does the Recall not include the 2010-2012 Taurus? The Link looks identical to the old one you show in the video.

I believe this is the same recall I received a little while ago about my 2009 Flex, would that be right??? Haven't done it yet unfortunately.

Great video as always. Just further reinforces my current view of modern day Ford vehicles. 👎

What issues have you found or heard of with the first SVT and/or second generation Raptors? More specifically the suspension and 6.2L? I trust your insights.

Personally, I'd want the parts replaced right now, then again when the improved parts become available. I'd certainly expect Ford to compensate the tech for doing it twice.

Check your rear tire wear. Our 2014 flex developed horrible wear to the inner part of both tires. My alignment guy caught it and noted both links were really loose at the ball joint. Ford replaced it under our extended warranty in 2018. I'm not sure if we have the new part or not. My ford dealer said they would exchange them under warranty anyway

Hi I watch your videos all the time. I am from Calgary Alberta Canada. Do you happen to know someone from around here that can troubleshoot my issues the best. Or recommend?

Hello, A fan of yours! Have a question. I have a 2013 Ford flex and we haven’t had it for that long. We have a p4030 and p4020 and the engine light keeps turning on. We’ve replaced spark plugs and o2 sensors. We aren’t having symptoms of a bad catalytic converter. What could it be? We are at a breaking point.
