Ford Vehicles: Electronic Throttle Body Calibration Procedure 

Took off my throttle body to clean it on my 2007 500, I put it back on & got the engine light and car was having acceleration issues. Tried this & its running like new now. I can't thank you enough.

FordTechMakuloco--After spending $736.00 at my local shop to get my air conditioning working again, I came home and started to get dash lights coming on. First, the check engine light came on, followed by the wrench light. I had a scanner tool, hooked it up and got two error codes. The most severe was the one causing the wrench light to light up and that was the P061B code. I watched your video, made my own jumpers and did exactly what you told us to do and it worked like a charm! I had to subscribe! Thank you so much sir! You da man!

Just used this sequence after removing and cleaning TB from a 2012 Ford Escape 2.5L. Car had very rough idle at cold start and would shake and rattle like a son of a gun at start up until at normal operating temp. Cleaned the TB and followed your directions on the TB recalibration. Shaking and hard start completely gone and runs like the day it was driven off the lot. Thank you.

Wow…this video is 8 years old but ya know what…it really helped me today!!!! I had changed out some parts recently (EGR solenoid, o2 sensors, fuel filter, air filter), removed and installed the throttle body, and disconnected the battery several times. I couldn’t figure out why my gas mileage was suddenly so bad afterwards. I did this procedure and it completely fixed my gas mileage issue. Thank you!!!!

PERFECT! I installed a new throttle body after my Ford Fusion was going limp mode with a throttle body failure code. I have to consider you the top man for Ford products on RU-vid or anywhere else for that matters. Your videos are a, "must go to", for any kind of issues with newer Ford vehicle issues. By "newer" I mean since electronics and modern technology has entered the automotive picture. I sure am glad that I'm a Ford man. Thank you so much for this video! I let my van run for 15 minutes idling (after doing what you said with the battery), and then another 10 minutes driving with the air condition on. This seemed to help it relearn and return back to its correct idling. Your knowledge is great and appreciated.

I replaced my tps and my truck started idling rough and shifting hard, this reset actually worked and stopped my truck from idling so high and now it shifts way smoother. THANK YOU!

Bless you, man. I've stubbornly been trying to get my Ford Explorer (4.0) to idle down and not die when I put it in gear for a month. I've changed parts, cleaned everything to no avail. Was about ready to go in to the transmission and unhook the sensor. I already poked holes in the cat converter....You're little trick with resetting the PCM fixed it in minutes. Thank you so much.

Thanks for this info. I had disconnected the negative battery cable to clear a check engine code, then the idle began acting very strange. I did this procedure to my 2007 Mustang GT 70,000 miles (automatic transmission) and it made a huge improvement in everything he mentioned.

What a great information. I just cleaned My throttle body at 142,000 and reset the pcm and took it for a drive transmission shifts so much smoother. Thank you so much for sharing this information.

I just plugged my new throttle body in, cleared the trouble codes with my scanner, and drove it like I normally do. It runs just as well as it always has.

I don't normally comment on here, but my new found friend your videos are simply awsome. I had the same issue that some people were saying they had and cost them hundreds. Thanks for the terrific set of video procedures. I just picked up a 2011 Escape and it was shifting late and inconsistently. I cleaned the throttle body and did the reset you describe here. Now it's running more smoothly, and shifting properly! Thanks again.

Thank you so much I recently have had nothing but trouble with my son’s 2012 Ford fusion from ECM to PCM and everything in between thought we had it figured out and then got the trouble code for throttle body failure. I did disconnect the battery when I changed the throttle body and figured that was enough after clearing, the codes still did not run right after about an hour of driving it stranded him again, I pulled the negative cable off and grounded it out to the positive like you said for 15 minutes. Let it idle cars. Perfect now thank you very much I can’t thank you enough.

Thanks for the videos. This was my 5th ETB (2013 F150, 3.5 EB, 403k miles, 2nd engine) and first one I did myself. Spent $221 for the ETB & gasket. Hardest part was get the dang wire harness off without breaking the tab.

Finding this video 4 years later, but I've got an 06 Explorer that i had to change the alternator on recently. After the weekend alternator swap it idles terribly and throws codes for my PCV, EGR, etc. Been fucking with her for days with no progress, I'm gonna give this a shot and pray it works. Update: Didn't work for me, sadly. Truck actually shut off on me when I put it back in park after taking a test drive. Update 2: It was a damn vacuum leak. I swear vacuum leaks are gonna be the death of me, bro. Good video though, will definitely keep it saved for future use -- I'll need it!

I have a 2009 f150 with terrible gas mileage... ave 11mpg really nursing it!!! I've replaced MAS, all injectors, coils, plugs and cats...as well as done the seafoam jobbies. That got me from 9 to 11... it does have the towing package diff ratios and is 4x4... i'm going to try this and hope it makes a difference... thanks for the BEST channel on youtube!!!

Great video, helped me out a lot. Installed new throttle body on a mk 6 fiesta and kept on stalling whenever I lifted off the throttle. This solved my problem in 20 mins. Thanks man.

You absolutely "nailed it"! My pedal was out of sync with the throttle body - had some "play" before the throttle reacted making it difficult to drive smoothly...also poor shift points. followed the procedure described and completely fixed the problems! Thanks fo posting this repair!!!!

im for sure going to get another 100k miles on my truck. just cracked 200k on '03 5.4 2v. i left this video in mid play to go to the throttle cleaning vid... done that plus my MAF sensor, IAT sensor, Wiped down my chrome snorkel and re-charged my K&N filter. Shorted the codes out let it wit a gater cable. start my truck and let it run for 20 mins with touching pedal. OMG!!! i watched all your videos.

Excellent post and intel. My 05 F150 has never run better. Replaced TPS and cleaned throttle body and Mass airflow sensor. Followed that up with the reset and calibration.

I want to thank you so much for posting this video. I have a 2013 Ford F-150 and recently I started having issues with the wrench light coming on and the truck going into limp mode. The speedometer would also stop working along with distance to empty, MPG average and odometer among others. I would pull over and let the truck sit for a few minutes, restart the truck and it would run fine again for a day or so. Then the wrench light would re-appear and I'd have to do that over again. I watched another RU-vid video and the person suggested replacing the throttle body sensor. Then yesterday the transmission light came on and stayed on and I couldn't get it to go off even when restarting the truck. I was about to buy on but decided to see if anyone else had a solution and found yours. I went through your steps and viola the transmission light has gone off. I'll go give it a test drive now and see if my problem is solved but I do believe it is and wanted to thank you. Cheers..!

Man, thank you thank you for your videos. I followed your removal, clean and re-learn throttle-body and truck is not stalling when I come to stop, slow down to turn etc... I had blown a plug and removed air filter to change all plugs and repair. I guess from fooling with the plugs and giving extra power the throttle- body couldn’t keep up. Most people said I had to clean throttle body and replace idle sensor. But after cleaning and following your re-learn video ; she’s driving like a new truck; new pugs with dielectric grease on everything, clean air-filter, clean throttle-body. Awesome!! Thanks again. I’ll Send back that idle sensors to Amazon and save that 70 bucks😅😅

Just did this on my wife's 06 fusion. Dealer wanted $700.00 to change it out. I did it for $200.00 and about 45 minutes of time thanks to this video. Man I really appreciate this channel and the insight it provides.

I cleaned my throttle body for my 2010 ford fusion and connected everything like it was before. Then did what you said on the video and after doing this I drove it for a while. Now the car shakes and wants to shut off. The rpm is a little below 1000 rpm when parked. Before cleaning the throttle the car was acting normal. No shaking or wanting to turn off

hi, I have bought a 2007 Lincoln Navigator 1,5 year´s ago, which I don´t know 100% the history of the vehicle. With a lot of help by your videos ( thank you therefore) I was able to fix some upcoming issue with my Navigator, because here in Germany they exist very few Ford dealers/ mechanic´s which are able or interested to help on non domestic vehicles and you have to go long distance in order to get an US-Ford correct repaired. (of course for crazy high prices) During the repair´s I did in the past and some other reasons I have to disconnect the battery couple of times, do you recommend to do the Throttle Body Learn Procedure on my SUV as well ?? PS. please keep going on with your videos all around US-Ford maintenance / repair, without your experienced help , it would be extremely difficult here to get this kind of help on US-Ford in Germany thx Igor

At the dealer with landrover they called this a "Hard reset" amazing instructions as always boss! Glad you're helping do it your selfers keep it out of shops for repairs a person can perform safely themselves

Just found a bad pcv hose and replaced it only to have it start stalling at stops. I followed these instructions and now runs perfectly. 02 F150 4.6. Thanks!!!!

Realizing this video is old AF, I just got my son a 2010 focus and we are upgrading the intake and exhaust. The plan is to flash it eventually or get a custom tune but this will help immensely in the interim to at least accept new upgrades quicker.

How do you get it to learn on a 2010 fusion hybrid? The engine keeps going into electric mode, won't idle for 10+ minutes.

I did mine today as per your instructions, smooth as silk 850rpm

Thanks! I did it. But i had to reset the pcm to retrain the throttle body and computer in car. Works perfectly.

does this apply for just taking it off? I had to take it off to get the TPS off, the screws had loctite on them

Omg man. thank you so much for this info..I am going to buy some alligator clips, and attempt..I'll swing a comment on here and let you know the results..I never once did this after my issue..I bet that has to be the problem... totally off the subject, but your the guy I need to stay in touch with..lol anyways, is there a voltage regulator built either in the altenator itself? or possibly the wire going from it to the fuze box?..I'm a huge system kind of guy, I've got huge system. I didn't exactly do the "big 3", but ran newer 4 gauge and also took out the stock ground..if this is to much then I can keep it short and sweet..you just seem to know more then our local dealerships..😇

I now do a computer reset (using ForScan for PC) after every fairly major repair job relating to intake, fuel, spark, transmission, or exhaust. After a major tuneup, after cleaning throttlebody, after a new air filter, basically anything that is fairly major in maintenance. I do a computer reset, and let the car relearn everything with the new parts installed. It definitely makes a difference. Makes the car run better. And improves fuel mileage as well as overall performance. It is definitely not a joke.

Ha I pulled the throttle body out of my 2014 5.0, cleaned it, cleaned inside intake manifold, reinstalled, tried this way, no change. Throttle position, hill descent, traction control system, tried a new throttle body, still no change. Sounds good at idle, drive off my driveway goes back into limp mode. Back to the beginning after spending more on this truck

Remember when vehicles were simple and we could easily set the idle with a screwdriver?

That was an excellent video man. I had no idea this had to be done if the battery died and thinking back that’s when my idle surges started. Not to say there weren’t other issues that contributed to that. But makes sense why nothing fixed the problems I had

Changed my TB because of stalling and loss of power, dealership said the TB plate was sticking and needed to be replaced. Apparently that's a problem with my generation of fusion(2007). I did this reset with the new TB, but the service wrench was on and the gas pedal was non responsive.

Just removed and cleaned the throttle body on our 2014 Ford Explorer Sport with twin turbos. Also changed the plugs while I was at it with OEM motorcraft plugs. The rough idle on start up has disappeared and it running well after going through all your proceedures...except now the turbos don't seem to be engaging as they were previously. They would just rocket your out of a slow roll or even just rolling down the road, but now it acts more like a car without turbos. Meaning, when I punch the accelerator, it just takes its sweet time rolling up. Granted I'm one day into the throttle relearning it's new life, but I really did love the old turbo life. Thoughts?

You no your Ford almost gave up on them since I found your channel it' gave me hope bought a 2009 lifted Ford f-250 5.4 had a bull dog piece of crap it went into fail safe but turns right on did what you said to do it ran way better than I bought it I got a good deal real cheap because they could not figure it out thank God for you you know your Ford you probably no about every other make and model IAM a working man I can afford to pay the dealership to rob me keep up the good work !!
