Kumusta RU-vid fam,
As many of our subscribers might know, Alina and I are huge foodies and are always open to trying new food. 4 months into living in the Philippines we have made numerous Filipino food reaction videos from the best soup in the world - Filipino Sinigang to the unique peanut dish Kare Kare to some of our favourite Filipino Inasals at fast food or roadside vendors, but one particular Filipino style restaurant we haven't tried was the famous budget canteens carinderias, where home-style Filipino cooking are displayed in trays and the locals can point and choose what they want.
In this episode, I met up with one of my subscribers Gelo and went on a food adventure to a local carinderia called Aling Sosing situated in Makakati where I gave my first impression of carinderia in the Philippines. Growing up in Hong Kong and Australia, my family is not very used to tasting the internal organs of animals, such as chicken hearts, pork liver and intestines etc so I was very sceptical about trying them when we first arrived. However part of the reason why I decided to travel full-time is that I want to embrace different cultural experiences. We tried a variety of dishes and overall had a great experience eating on the roadside.
Location of the Carinderia: goo.gl/maps/djDRYt1HzkdniMS47

It feels good when we eat in karinderya i prefer em than eatin in fastfood coz its pinoy comfy food, affordable, yummy, home cooked and we feel at home also served with free soup and you feel very local with friendly staff. we order more rice sharing our viants and a big soft drinks its like a lil salo-salo pinoy style. after eatin there with tooth pick in mouth we feel solved and full, energize to go back at work smoke first hehe.

That was the best Carinderia experience a vlogger ever produced. Your approach and format made it look as if we were there with you guys seated at the table and seeing all the food. I am surprised by how tender you found the squid but I assume that it must be the heat in Manila that makes it so. Cold temperature makes food cool down and toughen up. Great video!

Karinderya is more like a Filipino fast food except it serves Filipino local meal like they serve in Restaurants but more like a quick stop for workers, students or any locals to eat. The meals are very reasonable and cheap, very delicious food that Filipinos crave when they are on a budget and it's a go to place if you are hungry and on a tight budget and just enough to spend and fill up your tummy. Vegetable meals and seafood are also serve, my favorite vegetable meal is Pinakbet, it has variety kinds like eggplant, beans, bitter gourd squash and etc....Have fun on your tour in the Philippines 🇵🇭 and if you are a meat or Pork lover, go to Cebu, they have the best Lechon in the World, better than the Chinese Roast Pork known World wide...

Vegetable dishes. If you travel further north of Luzon, in Ilocos provinces ( like Sur and Norte) you will find a lot of vegetable dishes . Even in my home in Hawaii we always have at least two vegetable dishes like denegdeng or Ilokano version of pinakbet along with meat and Combo meat /vegetables dishes and lots of fish . So Filipino dishes in other regions can be very very healthy.

Fun fact, the term (Karindirya) is a combination of two words. The first word is (Kari) which is the original Filipino pronunciation of "Curry" and the other word is (Cafeteria). Therefore, (Kari + Cafeteria = Karindirya.) In 1895, these roadside eateries were still being referred to as (Karihan/Curry Houses), it's only in the 1920's that the term (Karindirya) started to be used.

you should have chosen someone who's expert when it comes to food. someone who knows details what exactly food their presenting or introducing to you. Gelo knows the name of the dish and he eat it but he don't exactly know what he's talking about. I also noticed he's not that familiar. one can tell just by the look and color of the dish or food but he kept on asking what it was like the chicken curry, the beef steak if it was adobo. he even said his mother has a carenderia just where you were. but he's not sure how it ( dish ) should like
