Its not a perfect place but there’s a lot to see and discover the culture in every island.You need to experience and explore may not be the the best food compare some other countries.But the people is the most kind and caring and very welcoming ❤️ 🏝 🇵🇭 the hospitality is the best filipinos can offer 👍

New Yorker Shane (1st interview) was the most helpful regarding food/dining out in PI. So many ex-pats talk about eating out about 50% of time, so it is important to know is the food delicious, is there variety, etc. His comment about Americans that look for something to complain about is so true. We need to focus more on being thankful for we have, not jealous for what we lack.
@TonzLanggoy
@TonzLanggoy Год назад
FYI. PI is a curse. Short for "putang ina" which means son of a bitch. Next time if you want to shorten Philippines maybe use PH.

Many expats,a chuck,seem to be muricans that also have some blog sites too,some don't, but most still have never been any where else but the Phi.,so you will here these constant comparisons,for example, their malls,their Hamburgers,rules etc ,compared to the Phi.,and the remark is my home's stuff, It will come across like no other Western country has good pizza or Hamburgers etc.etc.* and of course when they compare which isn't fair to a developing country to start,,it will never be said in the West, -only us/Am the excited States..never have I seen,or very seldom like an ex Aussy,Canuck,Brit,Kiwi,Swissy or Euro folk do this.., we'll just say The West..

My favorite thing about the PI is the people. They seem to be the friendliest I've experienced so far in my travels. Even the Filipinos in other countries are very friendly. I miss it there and plan to return soon.

I moved here 1 month before the world locked down, i am from Texas and a 100% disabled combat vet. There is a small list of things to pack, sunblock, good towel's, and common over the counter meds (tums, gas x, aliev). I would also bring lots of shaving razers. If you are like me, over 6 foot make sure to have at least 8 shorts 2 sandals 1 water shoes and 1 set of light pants and a collared button up shirt and 1 nice pair of simi formal shoes and 1 pair of walking/running shoes. everything else you can find mostly. I love it here, i was only going to stay 3 months but got locked down and am very happy that i did. I have married my woman and we have a 20 month old son that is the joy of our lives. the only reason why i may go back to the states is to sell my f350 and car and visit fam. yes it gets hot, drink water! you will have to learn to slow down and stay calm. the saying here is Live the chill life and they mean it.

that's really a good advice: keep an open mind and don't expect to have the things you have back home to where you'll be going. you're right. what's the point of traveling if you're only going to look for things that you have back home and you're not ready to try something new or different. that's exactly the point of traveling, otherwise, might as well stay where you are.

Most probably why filipinos are chill to be around with is with this not minding the time that sounded like chilax, it's ok, "there's always time," "it won't run". I did not realized it until I came back for good a couple of years back as I am a person who always minding my time, never been late to the appointments and hated waiting even for 10 mins., but here that being courteous of time is regarded as fun and not to take it srsly. I am a Phil. born by a european parents. Raised up and went to elementary school here, left after and continued my studies abroad. I seldom been back here from the 40 years of living abroad but I never forgotten the country where it taught me values and resilience. It gave me a kind of uniqueness as filipinos in general is unique among other nations that I experienced living and working with. The varieties of food to choose from, the diverse culture, the linguistic tongue and the genuine smile and kindness of the filipinos is quite striking not to be felt and remembered. I can say ppl who currently living in the Phils. will be lucky enough to witness the more progressive and real transformation of the country the coming years. I used to be scared living here but after Duterte admin. this country has never been felt safe. I can even walk out late night w/o the worries of being kidnap, rob or rape. Everything I need is here already. Needless to say but the Phils. is a country where everyone is welcome w/o descrimination of where you were rooted from.

Some Filipino grew up poor and just have enough food to survive, but not all. But I have to say that most don't eat a balanced diet. I grew up in the Philippines, but my family is health oriented, and growing up I was fed really well, even though everything is eaten with rice, there is alway a meat and vegetables dish in almost every meal and fruit or fruits for dessert; and snacks in between. My mom also made sure that we take multivitamin and cod liver oil everyday. So ended actually being quite tall. My tall sister is almost 5'10 and my brother is almost 6 ft, and towers almost any Filipinos we met

That guy Shane, ok I would admit that food in Thailand or Vietnam is better than the Philippines he is saying that variety of food is his problem, dude the Philippines has just about everything your heart desires, Thai, Chinese, Italian, Indian, Hungarian, Midetarannnean, Vegan etc etc........and hes been there for 3 years, If you don't like Filipino Food then go out and eat what you want. Did i I mention we have McDonalds there. Cuisine in the Philippines has drastically been improved. I agree with him on sevices, we do have to lower our expectation when it comes to services, it's SLOW but that's the way it is. We are so use to fast services in the US and Canada

Nice video. It’s seems like everything is really based on perspective and their personal experience. I noticed there was a contradiction between the first person and third person being interviewed when it came to variety of food options. The first one said variety is not readily available in the Philippines while the third person said the Philippines has a variety of food available. I think locally the first guy made a point that everything is served with rice which is different from the typical American diet but there is a lot of western food chains in the Philippines. Also the third person mentioned he was from Texas but I do not hear a southern accent at all! Makes sense since he is an English teacher.

Foreigners should learn to fit in not the other way around Filipinos in the US adapt easily to the culture so there should be discussion If you don't like it here, its fine, you can go back where you came from Just being frank though 🤔

Philippines, I will really miss you so much.... I used to spend the equivalent of thousands of US dollars when I traveled there. Due to inflexible "vaccination restrictions" and "quarantines", many tourists like myself are now spending our money in Vietnam. Vietnam has NO such restrictions. Tourism in Vietnam is THRIVING!!! The bad news for Philippines tourism is that the writing is on the wall and the Philippines restrictions really are HERE TO STAY!! They are NEVER going away! This spells bad news for the already crumbling Philippines Tourism industry. For the businesses that are also highly dependent on tourism, the sad reality is that it is very unlikely to improve any time soon. The good news is that Vietnam tourism is only going to grow more! Vietnam's tourism is already expanding and when we add all of the many rejected former tourists to the list, Vietnam will spike again in profits and expansion. Filipino workers will be well informed to go to Vietnam for the future they can no longer realize as a consequence of a strict policy choice. I treasure my memories of the Philippines when I travelled there in the past, but Vietnam is now the way to go. Ho Chi Minh City is your blissful gateway to the best adventure in your life! Many of us are now saying ITS MORE FUN IN VIETNAM! I hope to see you there! :D

Keep up the good work in your video, Alex! Lots of foreigners living in the Philippines now. Great news as well! Filipinos are family oriented compared to Western where they are more about " I " syndrome! As the song applies of Janet Jackson ( egotistic) : " What Have You Done For Me Lately?" But NOT in Philippines. It is about sharing and communal!

in regards to the statement of the new yorker about the food, most of the traditional food here always comes up with rice since philiippines is an asian and theres a lot of restaurant around the country serving international foods, so i dont think the food is really a big deal here, in fact a lot of westener likes filipino food even in abroad.

Have fun with discipline like drink but not too drunk and the nicest of all is words of respect specially to elderly.

I was stationed their from 1982-1983 with bravo co. At Cubi Point. Had a lot of fun. The advice I would give is don't eat balut and watch out for kids that ask for a peso. Then I would try and tell them to at least learn Tagalog language. The national language of the country.

1 advice I've give others is beware of the scammer taxi who dont put their meter on especially at airport.. when my ride was only 400 peso, he charge me 2.5k peso and then say " it's already very cheap. others charge 4k " - like seriously..?

@5:10 You don't lower your expectations when you go to the Philippines if you come from the US. Restaurants and food are different but quality-wise it is up there. What kinds of restaurants do you go to, in the first place? Try fine dining in Manila sometimes, not just fast food centers.

The thing is in the US and Canada the big cities are actually huge area wise, and population wise; and also they are multicultural. There are people that from different backgrounds that have been in US since at least the late 1800s and along they brought their food and culture with them. So they have alot to choose from that are readily available and are actually not authentic Chinese or Italian, but have been altered to suit what the common Americans like. I can find food that are similar to Canadian food in the Philippines, but cost more than if I bought the same food here in Canada.

@LuvMyLilBabe Eureka! I do find Filipino meals a bit bland and repetitive. But yr comment that there's a good /varied supply of fresh ingredients makes me think: if I ever retire in the PI (yes, there are many good points), I should learn how to cook! Salamat for that insight.

FOOD ADVICE... 1. Always order white rice with all meals. PH food is very salty and sour because its meant to be eaten with rice. 2. Always mix, mix your halo halo and noodles and sisig. 3. Never order jolly spaghetti.
