Difference is that here in the Philippines, this behavior isn't condoned. Even LGBTQ+ members here condemned what he/she did. In other countries especially in the West this would have been celebrated and even hailed as "free speech" but Filipinos still value Christian values very much.

@@thewinedingdownpodcast it's not just about being conservative, it's mutual respect, if you want to be respected for your beliefs or sexuality, then give the same respect to others. Luka has disrespected our religion and belief for his "art". In case you have not noticed, the Catholic Church in the Philippines are open to LGBTQ, you will see alot of them going to mass. The Philippines is the most diverse nation, with over 7,100+ islands, we are regionalistic, meaning each region/island have different cultures and traditions, but we live in peace, because we respect everyone's beliefs first and foremost, but when the other will not give that same respect, thats we take offense. Luka's case was not about his/her/they sexuality, it was the act done of disrespecting our GOD. Mind you, our language is gender neutral (we don't have gender based pronoun), because from pre-colonial time, we are already accepting of gays, check out Kirby Araullo's explanation about this.

The girl in the middle is correct. Luka can do whatever he wants but expect legal cases/backlash. Some people do not understand that the reason why there is Philippines is because of the Catholic faith. The least they could do is respect the faith.

I'm a Christian and I totally disagree and dislike Luka, but academically speaking all citizens have the UN international right of blasphemy, because all of us can have different religion and your take to my religion might be different, and the government shouldn't persecute Luka for his actions with all these persona non grata. When Duterte cursed Jesus and called him son of a bitch, three times, no one even blink an eye. The hypocrisy of those politicians is really evident.

This was blown out of proportion-people who weren’t religious and had access to social media spouted their take. I mean, I get it, blasphemous, but aren’t there things that are blasphemous that are done by these people on a daily? The mundane “Oh my God” and other stuff? I’m done with all the projecting and virtue signaling. If this wasn’t posted on social media, I doubt people would even care. The drag queen was even pronounced persona non grata in remote locations. His/her gender has nothing to do with the issue but he/she simply just have to know when to stop using "Art" as an excuse. His/her actions even have legal consequences but he/she just ignored it.

just curious, what do you mean what you say tolerated but not accepted? For me, I see it's just the same. Do I need to have a relationship with Gay to be accepting? I mean what is the criteria to be accepting?
@grandmawithagun3410
@grandmawithagun3410 10 месяцев назад
Hi! Genuine answer; Toleration is where people don't violently or verbally assault you just because you're gay or any other specific group. But there's still a bit of judgement as she said. In other words, toleration is where there is no punishment or assault to the gay person but there is still judgement. Accepting is the where there is no judgement, they accept that gay people exist and accept the reality of it so they treat them equally without judgement or prejudice.
@janandreiquebrado3380
@janandreiquebrado3380 10 месяцев назад
most filipinos tolerate gays; let them wear what they want, act the way they want, watch them on tv or movies. But do not fully accept them. An example; some people have a lot of gay friends and tolerate them but when their children turns out to be a member of the lgbt, they disown them or become disappointed. +the fact that sogie and same sex marriage is still a taboo here
@MrUod
@MrUod 10 месяцев назад
@@janandreiquebrado3380 I don't know about disowning. But about disappointment. Let me just give you a context of our culture. Gays/Trans have representation since ancient times. Try researching for Babaylans. Filipinos are very family oriented, I'm sure you already know that. The disappointment is not rooted because they are gay. It was because of lineage and legacy. The disappointment stems from the fact that you will most likely will not have children. A father's sentiment towards a gay child is the same as one decides to become a priest or knowing one is impotent. They are disappointed but they just let it be. That is why some gays in the Philippines still opt to have his own biological child like Ogie Diaz. I have cousins, uncles and nephews but they were not chastised or disowned. Their father is disappointed true but they are still their father's child. Even me not being married and still doesn't have at my age, I get same level type disappointment. As long as you promise that you will have your own biological child, I think it won't matter whether you're gay or not. At least that is what I see around me.
@thewinedingdownpodcast
@thewinedingdownpodcast 10 месяцев назад
The person who responded to you hit it right on the nail but to formally answer your question, acceptance is when we wholeheartedly recognize the community and we do not carry judgement or prejudice. If same-sex marriage is still illegal, it’s safe to say homosexuality is tolerated but definitely not accepted. I do understand your point when you compare it to say someone who’s impotent or unmarried at an old age but in this day and age where same sex couples can now have children of their own, I think maybe it’s now a moot point.
@MrUod
@MrUod 10 месяцев назад
@@grandmawithagun3410 The thing is prejudice is a factt of life. You will be judged whoever you are because we all have free will and chances are high that people will have different opinions. Everybody will receive prejudice in one form or another. For me, People tend to judge as a F*ck boy. You know how many times I get challenged to fights or accused of being a creep for just trying to be helpful and nice even sometimes for doing nothing. There was this one time when we arrived in Cebu airport and was waiting for our bags so I decided to play Pokémon Go while waiting. Naturally, I was moving about then suddenly this one girl scandalously accused me of taking a picture of her because I was moving around. Her boyfriend aggressively walked towards with the intention of confronting me. I could have just bet the crap out of him but I'm already at the point that I'm so used to it that I just kinda feel numb and just calmly ask him what's up. He reiterated what the girl was saying and just to finish the issue I just showed my album and he didn't find anything then he apologized. Another example, I was going out with this girl and liked each other a lot and we genuinely have fun together. Unfortunately for me, the people around her keeps talking shit about me behind my back eventhough I have no idea who they were. We just end walking our separate ways. I get it, prejudice sucks but it is just a fact of life. Imagine, I can't even help a girl rack a barbel in the gym eventhough she's struggling for her boyfriend might think I'm hitting on her. It is very annoying that every guy thinks you're stealing his girl and every girl thinks that you're hitting on them.

i think that christianity must have such a deep-rooted hold on most filipinos that someone having the AUDACITY to disrespect it will get this level of attention. i think that when you're used to being a part of the majority you feel entitled to police people. because this belonging to something larger is your only form of security. if someone out there said something shitty about something i identify with, i wouldn't care that much, that's their journey. they'll definitely never get the chance to be my friend, they'll never get the chance to be close to me. i'm not gonna waste my precious time sending them death threats, filing complaints, trying to take away their freedom of speech, trying to take away their rights, sending them hate emails etc. honestly, i'd probably just roll my eyes and be very unsurprised because as a part of the minority, i expect most people to hold views that do not respect me. disrespect is the default i live with. growing up queer and leaving christianity took away so much outside support from me that i don't expect respect or tolerance from people. if someone out there said something disrespectful about my own faith (not christianity, not any of the abrahamic religions, not any of the major world religions) i would NOT be triggered to the level that these people are. i wouldn't go up to them with murder in my eyes being like "how dare you" ... if whatever hate group is gathering somewhere among people like themselves and talking shit about people like me, i wouldn't care, whatever, that's nothing new. but if they tried to enter into our spaces and disrupt our activities, that's the only time it would be a problem. if you're one of those people who is triggered by this comment, or who have this weird need to restrict the freedom of people different from you, then here's a question for you: who are you? apart from your christianity, apart from your identity as a cis straight person, apart from your being filipino, apart from any group identity (like what school you went to, your family legacy etc, class status)..who are you? because believe it or not, there is something in all of us that is unique, that doesn't have the support of the tribe, whatever tribe that is. there is something in all of us that the tribe, being the conformity machine that it is, wants to smooth over and wipe from the face of the earth. what is that part of you that you don't have in common with your tribe? usually this quality in us received a lot of backlash, perhaps from other classmates, friends, parents, relatives, siblings etc. it's difficult to be a unique different person in the world. especially one as christian and family oriented as filipino culture. so it's a special quality that you knew that if you ever expressed it it might come to people as a shock. you'll be "found out" as different from everyone else. but if you can respect that part of yourself, accept it, even love it, regardless of what your tribes say, then you'll be far less triggered by anyone offending your tribal identifications.

I am Gay, and I am proud to be one. I honestly don't care what Chirstianity would think or say about my preference, but I know that respect needs to start on your self, before you earn it. The performance itself do not show a shed of respect from the performers perspective, to the LGBT community, and to Christian religion. It was purely commited to gain personal popularity, which is sad and humiliating since the LGBT community fight so hard over the years to get the very little freedom that we deserve. regarding the drag queen incident. let's put things in perspective. it happened in a club. people go to a club to be entertained or to just be happy. the thing that offended most Filipinos is that the drag queen, used a prayer to entertain people in that club. not just any prayer but the Lord's prayer to entertain the people in the club. that's the keyword, to "entertain". Can you think of a specific event where an artist used prayer to entertain his audience? Now there are artists, that have their own rendition of the Lord's prayer, but most do this not to entertain but to express their artistry. What the drag queen did wasn't his own rendition of a prayer, so where's the expression of artistry there? So let's not twist the issue any further, most Filipinos saw this as a way for the person to garner attention. Add to that, the unapologetic attitude bordering on arrogance during the aftermath only escalated the anger towards him. Most Filipinos are religious, true. But many now are more accepting of the LGBTQ community compared to 10 or 20 years ago. Yes, in the provinces or the rural country areas, where many Filipinos are still very traditional, acceptance of the LGBTQ community has a long way to go. They are tolerated, yes, but not wholly accepted either. So this shenanigans by the person really is a big setback for his community. And now, instead of understanding and acceptance for which many of his peers in the community have worked so hard to achieve, he is now reviled in many places in the country as many provinces have declared him to be persona non grata(unwelcome). If he only showed a little humility, it wouldn't have come to this. One doesn't demand respect, one has to earn it. How? start by being respectful towards other people, regardless of race, gender, social status, etc. but as a human being

From a Christian standpoint, Christian songs shouldn't be used for casual, non-religious events, especially in a club. This is especially true for Pentecostal groups and Protestants, as it's seen as inappropriate. There's a clear distinction between secular activities and worship, like going to church or gathering with others spiritually, even outside of church premises or in your own home. But then there's Luka, who claims that his way of worshiping God involves performing in drag at a club. Is that really aligned with biblical teachings? It seems like he's not really a devoted Catholic, just pretending to be. He should learn to respect and seek guidance from spiritual leaders before engaging in questionable behaviors. Now, many provinces are considering him persona non grata for disrespecting the Christian beliefs of the country. Furthermore, the Pentecostals and Protestants do not condone homosexuality as it goes against the principles of God's teachings. What he did was a blasphemous act and a mockery, setting a poor example for the young members of the LGBTQ community. Complaints and grievances have been raised by his community regarding gender discrimination, and yet he showed little regard for his actions. Currently, he is facing the consequences of his behavior. Regrettably, the Catholic Church leaders have not taken any action nor made significant noise about this issue. However, when it comes to politics, they are quick to criticize and make loud noises. It is puzzling why they remain silent regarding a homosexual individual who disrespects the Lord's prayer. This could be a reason why there are many homosexual Catholic priests who have been accused of misconduct with young boys.

To be fair sometimes they just using the Lgbt as an excuse with their actions they want to be respected and accepted but they should know their boundaries also this is not america we respect any religions and opinions but singing Ama namin in that way is wrong my two cousins is gay i have a lot of friends is gay but they dont act like him gender is not a big deal in the Philippines as long as u are a good person we based on attitude sometimes its not fair to us real woman gay is more priority they want special treatment but its fine we accepted that but they should know their boundaries😑like before about the CR issue before they want to be on the same woman cr its awkward to be honest they must be gay or dress like a ladys but still they are born a man whatever they do u cant expect everyone to be ok with that to be fair they have their rights we have also but for some gays even our own rights they want to take advantage 😩Pura luka has no respect at all

As a filipina at first I didn't see anything wrong in that performace because people seems enjoying but I got triggered and felt disrespect when he end up having another video taste testing/kinda mukbang a alter bread/Ostia that used in a church as body of christ. Thats when he crossed the line already for me. Because he can cosplay as Jesus like other people when doing the play how jesus die in the cross.

There is no problem about expressing your feelings especially using religion. It is however just a matter of how this person presented the character, how he performed, The performance was wishy washy and portrayed first a mocking behavior and second a blatant disrespectful behavior. It's very demeaning.and inappropriate. It likewise lacked sophistication, and since he was depicting something religious., there was no solemnity. in other words, all in all it had no class. In addition, the male speaker in this video meant, with every freedom comes responsibility. Fil- Am Watching from the US.

The World is so sinful. And people are so worldly and selfish that they think they can just mock God our Creator for the sake of entertainment and attention. God is already much offended by all blasphemies against Him. People need to repent and ask for Mercy!

I think it's not expressing his faith when he is actually being paid to do that. It his work. It's not about being in the LGBTQ community it is how he used the lord as a perfomance number which is very disrespecting. If a straight person does that, he/she will get the backlash. Let see if he can do that in the middleeast or in mindanao and use the muslim religioun as an act.

One thing... the Catholic Church does not discriminate queer people. People discriminate. It is not judgement. It is based on the values of people. As much as he is free to express himself to desecrate the image of Jesus and call it "art", the fact that he is in a conservative society, there will be a backlash. It means he doesn't know how to read the room. Also, even if a straight guy did what he did, Christians will also get offended. A case is already filed, i think against him, but legally, he did not break any laws. However, he has made a notorious reputation. Would decent people take him seriously now? He, himself has limited his audience. And we are not FOOLS to believe when he says it is an expression of his art. Let's call spade a spade. He is mocking Jesus, our God.

imo as a non-binary asexual in a heterenormative/hetero-dominated society and a religious country its hard to be different bc if ur a "gae person" people will automatically see u as a "salot" or in other words a disgrace and nobody wants to be gay bc whoever wants to be called a "salot" right? No one. The thing is even though im asexual i still identify as gae bc duh... im not straight and its a common misconception for people (mostly straight people) that we chose to be this way but honestly tho if ur straight, I wonder if you chose to be straight? Cuz im pretty sure you didn't cuz its who u are, same with us, its like this, if you're attracted to someone you don't say I chose to like this person 😅 nope! I don't think so like if you find someone attractive regardless of their gender its just like what they say love is love bc loving someone is not an option unless its tinder where you swipe left and right to get a match. Mind you i was homophobic once since growing up with a homophobic family I was made to believe that gay people are a disgrace but it doesn't mean that u are. Like, there are so many succesful gae people so but anyways its one of the reasons why I hid myself in the closet bc i was so scared to admit everytime someone asks me --Are you gay? And made me hate them (the gaes) bc I know for myself that i am too and it was hard since everyday I had to pretend being straight just to be accepted and not seen as different and I was in a really dark place where I did unspeakable things to myself bc I hated the idea of me being gay and i had no one to talk to about it. Also, if ur wondering how homophobic my family is, my dad used to drown me in the ocean (u have no idea how much salt water i've consumed) and hanged me upside down while asking me if i was gay when I was five and my grandma used to say that back in her day they would put u in a sack and beat u with a bamboo stick while hanging on a tree and my mother said that if she ever found out I was gay she would disown me. So yeah umm.. they're very accepting and I'm so grateful to have them bc that was an experience but that was all in the past and I don't really see it as a big deal anymore and I don't see the need to forgive them bc its not their fault, its their ideology and perception that made them do or say what they had to and to be fair, I've drowned myself more than twice too when I was 13 so i guess its a tie? I'm just taking this all lightly bc this might be triggering for some people who had past traumas abt some issues. I also have to adress that trans people doesn't necessarily have to be attracted to straight people altho it is possible but like what I said love is when you feel THE love not bc you chose to love them and I'm an empath so its easy for me to internalize other people's psyché and seeing myself in their shoes like some of them just wants to feel comfortable in their own skin by dresssing up however they want but there are some who thinks that once they become trans they can escape the fact that they used to be a guy or a girl and it makes them straight and it doesn't work like that people will still see you as that delusional gae person just bc you weren't born the way you felt like you were supposed to be I mean its not like we can choose our own genitalia inside our mother's womb, right? Lastly, I think Luka's act was seen as a form of mockery and yes I've also seen their video here in yt posted 3 years ago sayin that that its their way of showing devotion and they have been getting backlash since its hard for gay people to express their christianity being gay n all and mind u this was posted 3 years ago so why is this issue just coming out now? I'm so unsure abt why the need to dress up like the Nazarene tho when you know this was going to happen. They took the risk and now there are complaints leading to Luka's non persona grata to most of the cities in the philippines.

I’m not religious but what he did was pure disrespect to the Catholic church. No need to “challenge” how people pray. making a very sacred song into a rock song is disrespectful. the dude knew it was wrong for him to do that in the philippines and just didn’t care. good thing he didn’t do this kind of thing in the middle east…and i also just saw an old vid of him doing a mukbang of the holy host, wafer for communion. i was like wow. i’m not even religious and it offended me. i’m sure he’s playing the victim card now, no sincere apologies, BS reason why he did it, he’s thought this out and has done it multiple times using the disguise of artsy expression for actual mockery/blasphemy. dude, tell me you’re satan without calling yourself satan 😆

People who frequents gay bars (cause that place is def a gay bar or gay gathering. No normal bar will let something like that happen, customers, even males will throw beer bottles at him if he try that in a normal bar) in the PH are mostly extremely liberated adults & young adults. A typical Normal or Ordinary Filipino spends time with friends or family in a cafe or restaurant or bar with with food & music only - no drag show or anything. So all the people you see having fun with what he's doing is definitely not practicing Christian and most likely gay & into drag as well. Probably also upper-class people who couldn't care less about it. They will just enjoy cause it does not matter to them, there's no way they represent majority of Filipinos. I've had 1 chance of getting into one of those and I never returned. I don't like it. I don't find any fun in whatever they are doing. LGBTQ's are very free in PH but there are boundaries they must not cross.
