The first time we tried durian, we HATED it!!! Luckily we had many people tell us that the durian we tried was not a good one and there was a better kind we should try, especially for our first time! So, even though we were really apprehensive to try it again, we decided to give durian a second try! We also picked up some more mangosteen to eat after the durian! We also tried salak (snake fruit) for the first time, as well as a pink dragonfruit!
Some things that we learned about durian after the first video:
1. If it's your first time, try monthong durian!
2. DO NOT drink alcohol when you eat durian!
3. Eat mangosteen after durian! Durian heats up your body, but mangosteen will cool you down.

คนขายควรจะแนะนำนทท.นิดนึงว่า เออ ลองครั้งแรกมั้ย จัดแบบกรอบๆกลิ่นเบาๆให้เค้าหน่อย ไม่รู้จักเผยแพร่ทุเรียนให้ถูกวิธีกันเลย เจอแบบนี้หลายช่องเลย แล้วพวกเค้าไม่คิดจะกินอีก

So happy you guys gave Durians another try! If you guys wanna try it again. I recommend buying Mon Thong Durians at TOPS supermarket because their durians are from reliable farms. I don't think this durian seller understood you guys, the one they gave to you have a little brown spot which means it's too soft.

Many foreigners encounter problems eating durian for the first time, often encountered as overcooked, strong smell and starting to not taste good. Sometimes it also finds a bitter taste. For Thai people, prefer the peeled form and choose and choose again. Eat it fresh. There will be no bad smell and delicious. Hope you find durian like that.

Tip: how to peel salat way easier. Pick 2 salats and rub them togerther until all spikes are gone and then start peeling it. I'm Thai and Mon Thong is the only type of durian I eat. No worries if you don't like it, many thai don't love it either hahaha. Please try durian chips and RAMBUTAN !! I bet you like it

You can also put the Sala in a hard box or a strong paper bag, and then shake them a little seriously (but not violently). Then all those tiny spikes will fall off.

Thing that you said you didn't know at the 2nd minute was Noina (Annona squamosa). Thailand also has a lot of fruit that the western people do not know. Unfortunately, many things are harder to find nowadays. such as Baccaurea ramiflora, Averrhoa carambola and Manilkara zapota (luckily I was born early).

Guys, i think u must tray the fruits on minutes 2.30 in Indonesia the fruits with hairy we call Rambutan, fruits in the midle we call Srikaya and the yellow one we call Kecapi.

I live in Jakarta... srikaya is a sweet taste and kecapi have a litle bit sour but mously sweet and kecapi is a rare fruits in here now.

I really love your reaction hahaha It's cute that both of you give it another try. Thank you for trying for us. It's fine, durian is not for everyone. But you know what's the easiest durian to try?? Fried durian. (ทุเรียนทอด or Turian Tod in Thai) It's basically a crisp. No smell, no bad taste, crispy. All of my friends love fried durian and they HATE durian. Every time I go back to Thailand, my friends told me to bring back like one or two kilos lol

@@NataliesPassport I'm living in UAE now. For me personally, Jackfruit is worse than Durian. I can't stand Jackfruit at all but a lot of people seem to love it. Durian is fine for me, but also even for Thai people Durian isn't really welcome everywhere hahaha

@@NataliesPassport Yes, UAE is so different from Thailand and just like you two, I love to explore new places. I think you should try!! I hate it but it's not something you can find outside tropical country. But try to find a firm and light yellow one because it's easier to eat. The softer one tends to have sweeter taste and stronger scent and it's harder to eat. Also if you have a chance to try Longan (ลำไย or Lamyai in Thai) you should. It looks a bit like Longong that you tried in the other video but far better in my opinion. Very sweet.

if you want to avoid Sala('snake fruit' called by their shell looked like snake scale) spikes your hands, pull them out of their bunch one by one, put them in a plastic basket, shake them well then holes of the basket will break their spikes out that will easy way to get rid of those spikes, enjoy eating!

Next time have a big bite on Drian or ask the shop to cut Durian vertically into 2 portions ,take the seed and share one each. Have a big bite like you would eat bread.To enhance the way to have Durians, you should have them in a cooler room temperature but definitely not in the hot sun

You should try Mango sticky rice, longan, lynchee, rumbutan, mafire, jack fruite, mayomchit(yellow plum), sugar apple etc.

The way to choose mangosteen is to choose the one that the color of the leaf on the top of the fruit is not green, but to choose the one with the color is toword brown or brown color. You might like it more.

To peel Sala fruit (Salacca) I recomment to rub the fruit with paper first to get rid of tiny spikes or you can pick it into plastic bag then shake..shake... shake.. after that you can peel it easily

I'm glad you realized my advice and you don't have to accept the taste of it because it is very difficult for foreigners but for Thai people it is in the blood but it doesn't mean that all Thai people are. I like it because it smells really strong and I don't eat it very often. And the fruit called dragon fruit. It is actually the fruit of a type of cactus that has been developed to have good taste.

It's like you not going to eat overripe banana but you will use it to make banana cake instead. That's why choosing perfectly ripe durian is critical. By the way, the red spiky fruit is called "SA-LA". I enjoyed you guys video :)

ฉันคนหนึ่งที่ไม่ชอบทุเรียนมากๆตอนแรก เพราะกลิ่นมันแรง แต่เพื่อนฉันทำให้ฉันชอบมัน ด้วยการพาฉันลองกินดู โดยให้ฉันกลั้นหายใจไม่ให้ดมกลอ่นมัน และให้ฉันกินมันลงไป ตั้งแต่นั้นมาชั้นชอบมัน และไม่เหม็นกลิ่นของทุเรียนแล้ว ทุกวันนี้ฉันกินทุเรียนได้และชอบมันมาก มันกลายเป็นของโปรดของฉันเลยหล่ะ หวังว่าต่อไปถ้าคุณทานมันอีกครั้งคุณคงจะชอบมันเหมือนที่ฉันชอบ

But for those who can tolerate the smell of durian, they will feel good if they smell it and will want to eat because the pulp is rich in durian. Nutritional value of durian pulp per 100 g. Energy 174 kcal. Oh damn! Natalie, you have become one of us that when we were a kid and hated durian. Then, there were some occasions you got to try it bit by bit. You still not into it but changed from hate to dislike. And before you knew it, you look for it, you wanna eat it, and cant live without even the price is so freaking high. My guess is you will become a Thai very soon.

When time flies, You will experience in different flavor especially bitter or smell taste. Thai people believe that when you grow up, you will more likely bitter and strong smell taste. So, after you try durian again, the feeling will change. You may be another durian lover lol. I has friend she told me that during teenager, she hate durian but right now, she is one of durian lover

Yay! Thanks a lot for giving it another try. Even though you guys don't really like it, but at least you gave durian justice it deserves. Was it sweet? I don't know if this one is still a bit too raw, cuz you said it didn't have any smell. A perfect Monthong should have sweet flavor. That's how it should be. By the way, the green fruit that looks like a hand granade at 2.27 is sugar apple. You should try that. It's very sweet and very easy to like. I'm pretty sure you'll love those. ^^

Though I have some foreign friends from USA and Mexico that liked Monthong durians since the first time I took them to try, but I also have one that still hates it so much no matter how perfect a durian I chose for him is. 😅🤣 I feel like it's very individually subjective.

Thank you for trying durian. Maybe if you ever come Singapore or Malaysia, you should try the durian there. The durian will be cheaper, taste better. You will get the whole shell instead.

Monthong is good start and I would recommend to try big bite. Also, I would recommend Durian chips if you still hard to eat fresh Durian.

for a starter , you should cook durian in coconut milk +milk+ salt do not add sugar cuz it will be far too sweet, wait until cool down and pour on sticky rice the same rice as sticky rice + mango.... this is a start recipe ... you cannot start with the fresh fruit too strong for you

There is an old joke saying that a foreign comes to fruits market in Thailand. He had never seen mangosteen and asked the fruit seller if this was a mango or not. Angrily, the fruit seller replied, Mango "sonteen"=Mango+Foot=Mangosteen: finally evolved.:P The word Sonteen=Foot and Heels is synonymous with the word Steen. The word "foot" in some sentences is considered a curse word by Thai people because the feet are the lowest organs and are dirty. You will notice that Thai people are very concerned with their feet. They don't put their feet on the table or point with their feet. Or even talking about the feet in a negative way, such as comparing a person's face to a foot or touching the feet on occasion, is a serious matter. But for foreigners, Thai people are ready to forgive and explain to them.

Yes, it's the brain calibration. It's really a thing, for this fruit especially. It have many tastes and smells, our brain get confused at first. Eat more and more, and you might like it eventually. Some even got addicted - after they hated it at first. And for sure, don't take the extreme or "expert" one if you are a first timer. Nice that you guys gave it another try.

I’m surprised you gave duran a second try and even thinking of tryng it for thid time 🤣🤣🤣 I live in Canada, have tried dragon fruits imported from Vietnam and like the pink dragonfruit more than the white one. However, I think it’s the opposite for Thai dragonfruit - the white one tasted better in my opinion.

@@NataliesPassport Ha ha ha I’m not surprised you dont like durian. It’s an extreme fruit that you either like or hate for most people. I eat durian but try to avoid because of its high calorie. But mangosteen...that’s a love for me. I used to eat 4 kgs of it in one shot by myself when i was a kid (most of the weight was on non eatable parts though). 🤣

When you eat Durian,you have to eat a big bite and the 3rd bite will be tasty,because you'll be similiar to its smell. Anyways "Grob Nok Noom Nai Durian" always beautiful smell. In other ways,Why did most people love Blue cheese (Penicillium glaucum) ?? Is it so smell??

when you've never eaten durian, and feel you don't like the smell and taste, it doesn't matter. But, when you try it often, you will really like it. So, while you don't like durian, you will really dislike it (probably because your senses are not yet matched). And when you like durian, you will really like it.

What strange about Durian for me is that it's the kind of fruit which doesn't taste like one. My first impression about Durian was bad because of its smell but even with that smell and weird taste it will slowly get better and better in every bite you take, like first you are not so sure about the taste but overtime you'll find out that you already fall in love for it. Premium Durians are extremely expensive even more expensive than a fine meal in 5 stars hotel. For people who buys that kind of Durian no matter they enjoy eating it or not they probably don't want to waste it 😅.

@@NataliesPassport We asked the good folks at DQ, and that's what they said. We also looked for durian ice cream at Swensen's and they didn't have it. They did years ago, and I think it had some real durian meat in it. If Swensen's has real fruit pieces in it, go for it. I love durian, and ate so much this trip. Did not really see durian ice cream bars, but have had one in the past. Try durian with sticky rice and coconut cream, if you haven't yet. Keep trying Monthong durians that are a little firmer, if it's the smell you don't like. Musa King in Malaysia is a good one to try. Watch Mark Wiens' KL video where he tries it. That one sounded dreamy. Enjoy your travels. Great videos.

Not everyone love it but You still tried one , repect you 👍🏻 if you can travel everywhere and you still wanna to try durain as well ,I’d like to suggest you to go to (Or Tor Kor Market (shop name Nid (or tor kor) in jatujak,Bangkok ) ,you can try free premium durian (12,000 bath per kg) ,many people don’t love durian but they love one there.
