Here I am, an American college student, taking a study break during my internship in Mongolia, watching a Scottish Highlander tell me how to become a ninja. I'd like to thank the 21st century for being so weird, and I'd like to thank you, Tom, for helping it be that way.

It's fascinating to see how every culture in humanity has found a way to work with sticks. It's like there's a universal connection we all share with the simplicity and versatility of a stick.

Hello! My name is Rudar, I live in Curitiba, in the state of Paraná, Brazil. I had the pleasure of visiting Edinburgh in 2019 and I simply "came home". Since then, I've been looking for all the information I can about Scotland, as if I needed to relearn the country my soul belongs to. I don't know what your beliefs are, but I personally feel that I've lived in this place, I've been Scottish in another life. It's a feeling that goes beyond a simple liking. My soul cries out to come home. I found your channel thanks to my research on kilts and since then, I watch them one by one, sometimes repeatedly. Its content is excellent precisely because of the simplicity and frankness it conveys. Apart from that I learn a lot about "my soul country". I thank you and send my hugs and best energies from Brazil.

I call what you describe as forrest warrior monk by a different name, Wilderness Martial Arts. I describe it thusly: Wilderness martial arts is a call back to the original way in which great warriors of old would train... I want to grow this niche more and I think you are well on the way to helping people out that want to train in a martial art while enjoying a more natural environment. Cheers!

When I was 20 in 1982 I had a fascination with sticks, bows, camping, survival, I made my own sticks out of Ash, Hazel and others I also made my own arrows, awhile later this developed into armoured combat with swords, spears, I made my own shields too, and joined a Viking/Saxon group. Stick fighting is great fun, I still have many staffs, sticks and walking sticks. Keep the videos coming 👍

I love your channel. I live with slow chronic heart failure. Staff exercises have kept me fit and balanced. I have like, 6 or 7? 3 oak staffs (1 jo) some fire hardened, beaver eaten driftwood....Can't remember. I live in a forest in northern Québec and find solace in nature. You inspire me every time, watched your vids many times and passed them on to friends.

Fun fact about archery based repetitive strain injuries back in the prime of the English longbow men who's bows had draw weights upto and sometimes exceeding 140 pounds would experience drastic changes in their skeletal system their ribcage would stretch and the bone density in their hold arm would double all to cope with the comical amount of stress they would go through during their trains and battles

Quite inspiring aye. I noticed gyms never done it for me. Always felt too boxed in and such. But getting out into nature really does change that. I used to cycle a lot and it kept me fit, cycling down canals and such. Perhaps I should invest in a bike again and get out there. And maybe even pick up a stick or two… good thing sticks are everywhere

There's also a lot to be said about the meditative aspects and flow involved with music. Either playing an instrument or singing, it's a very zen feeling. Plus singing is very good for breathing and lung/core strength while using instruments can help with different aspects of more fine motor functions. You could even classify that part of the exercise routine as Making Noise

Loved your video. Just as a tip.. when u practice with the staff, it seems that your upper body form is almost perfect, but.. when you moved freely hiting the rope, your lower body form, your legs seemed out of balnced. Meaning you may fall easly and there will be a major lack of power. You must transfer the energy of hit from the ground, root yourself, keep the shoulders down. Speaking as a Hung Gar practitioner. You are very talnted, perfect form when practicing without a target. Great archer(better then me), just that spesific issue might use a little improvment. Root yourself then hit. Keep up the good work, life and videos.🍻
