TCL believes Mini LED is still the best TV tech for a living room (more so than MLA & QD-OLED), due to full-screen brightness of 800 nits. Get Surfshark VPN at surfshark.deals/HDTVTest - Enter promo code HDTVTest for 83% off and 3 extra months FREE.
The company also did a teardown of its new C845 TV to demonstrate how Mini LED works, and explained its 2023 TV lineup including the C745 & C645.
The "Includes Paid Promotion" message in this video refers to the sponsorship by Surfshark VPN.

I love TCL's transparency and I hope they keep it in the future. My second wish is that this transparency finally also applies to *software support/updates* TCL's TVs run Android 11 which is fairly recent (only Philips' 2023 TVs one-up that by running ATV12) but giving confirmation that they will be updated to the newly released ATV 13 and which models will get the update would be awesome and gives peace of mind.

Sad that TCL won't show LG, Sony and Samsung how to make OLEDs non-enthusiasts would actually buy, but the rumoured acceleration to many thousands of local dimming zones so soon is very exciting news for Mini-LED, actually fully demonstrating 4k nit graded content finally would be a dream. Specifications are one story. But real world use and testing are always another story. I can't wait to see testing and reviews by this channel and others. Our first entries into smart/flat screen tv's were both TCL because of the deal we got and we were and still are, way happier than we thought possible with them. Although we realize you pretty much need soundbars or systems with these technologies to really appreciate them and get front facing or surround sound. You would need to be less than five feet away from a 65in tv to tell the difference between 4k and 8k. And then you have to consider that most classic movies were filmed on 35mm film which is only enough for 4k. Most modern movies are filmed at 6k and mastered at 2k just because it isn't worth it for them to render CGI at 4k let alone 8k. 8k movies would be limited to lower budget movies with little CGI like Parasite or something like that. It doesn't really make sense to make 8k blu rays. I think 8k screens in general will take a lot longer to enter the market than 4k did. The main downside is that they are dimmer than 4k with their smaller pixel aperture with almost no benefits (you need be sitting really close to them to tell the difference). Now if we start talking about >85in tvs, projectors, or >34in computer monitors, there might be an advantage to 8k, but it will take a decade for 8k to take any meaningful market share. I would much rather get lower compressed 4k than 8k right now

Not meant for PC gaming, these LCD TV displays with local dimming are for watching TV, movies and casual gaming, even the high-end monitor versions have severe blooming, ghosting, crosstalk, bad motion clarity, just not good for any serious gaming at all.
@sylvainh2o
@sylvainh2o Год назад
@@Wobble2007 Idk i need to learn more about that. When you check PC monitor to get mini led 144hz + even if only 1440p and not 4k they cost like 1300$ USD+ have smaller screen size like 34 inch and often have less dimming zones and Nits, peak brightness etc.

@joseluislopes3956 Год назад
@@sylvainh2o you can't really compare 800 zones on a 85" TV to 500 zones on a 32" monitor can you? Also miniLED TVs tend to disable/reduce local dimming zones in game/PC mode, or the response time will be horrendous. Monitors are more expensive compared to the same sizes of TVs for some reasons...
@sylvainh2o
@sylvainh2o Год назад
@@joseluislopes3956 Yeah Tvs are mass produced so the production cost is lower. Pc gaming monitor are always charged a premium specially MiniLed and Oled who are still kind of new. I was or should i say i am hopeful that Gaming Tvs seems to be catching up to gaming monitors. What if you can get a 55 inch tv which is just as good as a gaming monitor for a similar price. This would be incredible in term of value because much bigger screen size and you need a Tv anyway. Pc couch gaming setup are getting more and more popular.

Hi @HDTVTest I have a question I hope you might answer: Im looking to buy a new TV for my apartment. I want a 65", and Im mostly using it for my PS5 and regular TV watching, in addition to a tiny bit streaming and movie watching. I play PS5 quite a bit and sometimes watch TV for prolonged duration. I was looking into the LG C2, (Which I now can get for circa a 33 % discount in my country) but all the OLED problems have scared me: The possible burn-in (as I watch TV and play, both showing fixed images/HUDs, for long periods at a time, and the low brightness, although it is the burn-in that scares me the most. I have the possibility to keep my room quite dark if there is sunlight outside. How big of a problem is this with the LG C2? And what TV other than an OLED do you recommend in the same price range (LG C2 with a 33 % discount)?

Get the 845 if you can, I got the 835 and was astounded by gaming and also movies. Not deep blacks but they go pretty low. I have 2 plasmas that have ghosting just from general TV with channel logos. I watched 4:3 content for 2 days straight and got black bar ghosting. I now have a Hisense SX65 wuth 2 million dimming zones that is as good as my plasmas and also a TCL C835 which is amazing for an al-rounder vs $ I would never touch an OLED due to having to nurse it, something I don't have to do with either LCDs.

Nice professional engagement. 240hz FHD, would be nice to experience this truth be told. I'll have to check the price, but having Mini-Led is far better than any TN or even IPS "GAMING PANEL" and even could be preferable to OLED baring the unique look either would provide. Until we see a true 240hz above OLED or QD-OLED set, which probably won't be for at least another generation or two this is a nice stop point without significantly taxing extreme hardware required to genuinely push the required bandwidth especially in it's biggest use case which is undoubtably cost.
