Thank you for sharing. Still a baby with blacksmithing and also just recently started my RU-vid channel. Thanks for all the content, tips and info you always give.

I make my dies from mild steel too - the cost for H13 or even 4140 was more than I am willing to consider as an amateur blade maker. I did make mine to be usable along the blade axis or across the axis.

Hey thanks Walter. I've recently dug out and old smithing magician I had. Using some junk coil and leaf spring to form the dies, It's super useful. Thanks for the info.

The 45 degree butcher dies are useful for many things! Mine are also A36 steel, and I just regrind them as needed as you suggest. Thanks!

An embossed pattern on the tool could make repetitive patterns on the material a snap. Cool video with lots of potential applications.

I have always thought hard facing might help with durability and be a cost effective solution to hardy tools and dies. Might make for a good video.

Dear Walter, I just found your Forging Japanese dvd set online. I've had a love for Japanese swords since I was a kid. However my forge is off-grid and uses charcoal and no power tools. I was wondering if I would still be able to follow your instructions with that setup. I'm new to blacksmithing and have a hard time finding instructors that teach without power tools. J

I guess making the Guillotine is a little more difficult without a Mill.
