looks really cool. I like how they avoided all the nightmares of making 3D enemies and just used 2D pictures, they dont even animate but it still works well. That is probably one of the reasons this game even got released without going over budget. Can't wait to try it out.
This looks amazing.... but lack of gyro tends to leave me more frustrated than not. Think I'll pass for now, and maybe wait for a steep sale (or an update adding gyro). Appreciate the review!
@@Komaticomone shouldn't have to buy 3rd party products to play a genre of game when the developers could just include the control scheme. Always a problem on these with multiple platform releases... they don't do the things that tailor it to the different platforms.
Hopefully they add it in - although I used a gamepad on PC with Forgive Me Father and it felt fine. But gyro is such a great option - Severed Steel went from a decent port to one of the best switch FPS games when they implemented gyro
Love the art design on these types of games. However, I’ll wait on a sale for this one. Thanks for sharing these obscure games we all enjoy. SeeeeeeeeeYA! 🍻
I love when games use comic art style like this. As a millennial grown up playing Duke Nukem 3D, Doom, Natural Fawn Killers etc this game is right up my alley. Looking forward to download this game 😁😎
Wow, this looks awesome. The claret explosions just wow. Id never heard of this till your review. Its also been a while since a sanity system has piqued my interest. Nintendo needs to port/remake eternal darkness.
@@TYNEPUNK correct, but many developers who implement them into the control scheme allow you to dial it up or down, or have it be context-sensitive so it only activates when you aim down sights. It's a completely optional feature that you don't have to use, I just find them helpful for fine-tuning my aiming because the throw distance on the nubby little Switch joysticks is so short.
This is closest thing we’re going to get to a spiritual successor to Monolith’s first breakout hit fps Blood. Just wish it came out on PS5. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have settle on the PS4 port via PS5 backwards compatibility.
Great video. I'm going to wait for a sale. I remember playing call of cthulu on the original xbox, which then led to me reading all of lovecrafts stories. A shadow over innsmouth is probably my favourite. The hotel escape is still one of the most tense things I've ever read.
well well, looks like only you lovely euro lads and ladies will be getting the physical cart. Guess I can use code SwitchUp23 to save 5% to import it from playasia :) @@SwitchUpYt
@@SwitchUpYt sorry it’s called the nitro deck BY crkd. If you don’t know what it is, or have one, it basically makes your switch like a steam deck, but the way the sticks are they will never drift.
At first I wasnt sold on your scoring system, as I prefer a hard cut towards a given decision rather than the gradient between evenly divisible numbers. I have more of an appreciation for your rubric and I always appreciate when you mention the stability of a given game's frame rate.
Got thus in a humble bundle a while back and it fucking rules. I'm not a fan of PC gaming so I'm buying this on Switch or Xbox immediately. Awesome upgradable weapons, crazy Enemy designs, and a really cool Lovecraftian story
Already the first problem. Its 7:30am on 9/28 and Nintendo's website shows it for sales but when you click on it pulls up a screens saying "not available"
@@danielzamora8150short for gyroscopic controls. Your switch has gyroscope(s) inside. Some FPS shooters i.e. SuperHot, on the switch allow you to fine aim by tilting your switch no joystick input needed.
@@danielzamora8150 In the context, I was referring to the fact that this shooter does not use the gyroscope sensor in the joy-con. You have to use the sticks only.
I will always prefer 1st person games with a keyboard and mouse... the only way I can tolerate them with a controller is with gyro support (especially in handheld on the Switch). So when that's missing, I just pass on the game. This game looks gorgeous and I love the theme... lack of gyro? Pass
definitely getting the physical for my retro FPS for the Switch. Saw the european version on pre order on play-asia. Anyone knows if there will be an ESRB version? if not am totally getting it from there
this looks right up my street! think i shall have to pick up the physical to reward the developer. A metal soundtrack is just the eldritch cherry on the top!
I don’t play shooters but the art style caught my attention while scrolling through the upcoming games on the eShop. Thank you so much for this review!! I think I’ll give it a go 💥🔫
Thanks! I would’ve completely looked past this. The name definitely doesn’t scream old school boomer shooter lol. The price is a bit high but if there’s a good amount of game length and replay ability I’m game
I love FPS and some of the boomer ones, but I've been missing some options to aiming differently, and not only "from the hip". For instance I love the last Wolfenstein games, amazing gunplay with all the different weapons, but these type of games... It is like I know I will enjoy, but still feeling I miss aiming in first person, not just moving the reticula. Best,
I really hope that the developers are working on an update patch for the Switch version. Its very blurry and sometimes the environment has glitches going on
Is gyro still necessary when docked with a Nintendo pro controller... i dont even think it can be enabled while docked but idk u love that gyro, i dont really care for it or just didn't get use to it however game does look badass
This game kinda intrigues me. As a player who just played the "new" 2016 Doom as a modern FPS, i fear that this game may disappoint me as it looks similar to the concept of older dooms (which i just cannot play for various reasons) ...it gives those vibes. But on the other hand looks like it has good performance a great story to follow and a solid gameplay. Luckily i'm poor, so i don't have to think about it too much right now 😂😂😂😂😂
@@TrixieDevani "I remember when we played shooters with just a keyboard, holding down Alt to strafe" Gotta love performance increasing control innovation, the ultimate goal being mind control.
I’ve played a little Forgive me Father but quite a bit of Nightmare Reaper, and it sort of comes down to preference. Nightmare reaper gets a little repetitive, with it having roguelike elements, but has a really neat skill tree. FMF is more linear/traditional and less grindy. They’re both worth playing if you love old school shooters though
Since we're going to the comments for this, gyro is stupid and is absolutely not essential Why on earth would i want to move my controller to aim on a HANDHELD SYSTEM
Why do all games with a side by side double barrel shotgun always show the gun shooting both barels at once? This isn't how they operate. I blame Doom II. Either way this looks cool, great review :)
I bought this game on ps5 several days ago and I gotta say I didn't enjoy it very much. It's mostly art style coupled with the how stiff all the animations are. I don't feel like I'm shooting eldritch horrors. I feel like I'm shooting cardboard cutouts of eldritch horrors. The combat is wildly unsatisfying to me because of this. The loading takes a bit too long for a game that's not graphical demanding. And I got as far as the part where fish men start appearing in water. The reason I stopped is because they're supposed to jump out of the water so you can shoot them but they just never did. The game has essentially glitched out and they just instantly attack you from underwater and you die in a couple hits. I couldn't progress further. So I stopped playing.
Downloaded this when I got in from work today, its pretty good so far but its not as good as the masterpiece that is dusk. I got one major gripe though.......film grain, why oh why cant I turn it off!!??
