Got an 88 300zx, just got it running a few months ago. Love it how it is, the LS is like 2jz poison with more pistons. I love monsters too, but can confirm the vintage feel is rad.

72dodge340 you just know he's going to hack it up, he's young. First thing they do is remove the bumpers "to reduce weight" and then either turbocharge it or put a v8 in. I would be very shocked he kept this car original.

Yep I am with you. I want to keep my Datsun Z cars Datsun. I have my V8 '75 Firebird and '72 Chevy Pickup. My 280zx cars stay with the 2.8l straight six.

I had a Datsun Maxima wagon with that same engine. Had lots of get up and went, but eventually lost a timing chain or belt, whichever, which bent valves and such, so it was beyond reasonable repair... least for my wallet at the time. Hated to see it go. loved that car. but at near 500K miles on it, it was about done. still ran good until it didn't, but I had a brake problem. it needed new rotors, while I bought the rotors, I could not break the bolts loose for anything. Not with breaker bars and cheater pipes, not with heat, not with penetrants. nothing worked, so I left them be and quickly learned how to change brake pads in about 15 minutes, the bulk of the time spent on removing wheels and putting them back on. Oh, it was an 82 according to the title, tho I think it was actually made in 81. it actually said Datsun by Nissan on the badges.

toot tall: Yeah you probably had the diesel engine which has the desirable LD28 crankshaft to do a 3.1 stroker build for the L28s. And you would have had a timing chain and not a belt. Pretty good to get 500k miles on it. You definitely got the use out of it to the core. lol I will never get rid of my Z cars. I have owned my Zs for almost 20 years.

The amount of crustiness on that one plug may also be a good reason to pull the head anyways and get a better look.

This exactly, it's no low mileage example in factory fresh condition, add to this the AT and what looks to me like an exterior respray and you have a sub $7K example. Now if one was to refresh the entire engine bay, underside of the car, and get the rat piss smell/foul interior swapped out for new it may pull $12K on a good day.
