As an ex mechanic I love this channel. I started working on cars in 1968 with my stepdad. He taught me a lot. I love watching you guys working on these old cars. It's a lot of fun to watch. It looks like where you guys are reminds me of the old Indiana roads back in the day. Live in Phoenix now. We'll be looking forward to the next video.

91 octane fuel doesn't get pumped from or by consumers today due to so few vehicles needing that rating of fuel. Not to mention the extra 'bump' in price per gallon. Could the fuel station have a tank of old nasty fuel that has sat for months and maybe as it happened to Luke at his YT channel 'Thunderhead289' some diesel got loaded by honest mistake into the station's 91 grade tank? Those plugs have the same look as his vehicle. As it was for him quite a disaster bc he had filled his Mav's tank that was near empty with crap fuel. Then once he cycled it out and did a plug Rn'R and oil change his vehicle began to limp back to its old self. Good to see you all are doing well. I just moved out to Marion County in NW Arkansas to live off grid with my family and after watching so many of my favorite YT presenters live in the Midwest I now feel more at home than I had living in isolated retirement in Arizona.❤

Just a comment on Jack's "driving" restrictions. I watch many channels that show underage kids driving on their property. I have a feeling that RU-vid's issue was the donut aspect of that particular drive. We all know RU-vid has decided they need to be everybody's conscience and that it's their duty to create their own laws. I hate not seeing your boy exercising his legitimate right on your property.

I drove my dad's 70 GMC in high school I loved that truck it had a very dependable 307 with a four barrel and turbo 350 trans and dual glasspacks

My father had several of these trucks when he was younger. Now that my brother was in his teens he had two of these trucks one was given to me and then it was sold without me annoying. We love to have One like that.

My dad had a few of these trucks growing up three of them. When my brother was younger, he had 2 different 1 and then he gave me one of them.And then he ended up selling it underneath me.I do not know I would love to have one of these trucks at once again.

Wonderful truck. Had a 73 Cheyenne Super with a 454 and B&M turbo 400. It too would bark the tires on 2nd gear shift. Great video. Thanks.

I had a '72 GMC 3/4T with a 350 engine. I put a good two-tone paint job on it in my parents' garage, and replaced the Rochester carb with an Edelbrock. The truck ran & ran. I drove it for 20 years and it never let me down. My three girls cried when I sold it. I wish I didn't.

I made a couple of sets of jumper cables out of welding cable, hook it up and crank. You need a set or two.

I love that G.M.C. And that BIG-BLOCK I’m currently working on a 1966 c10 for my daughter and a 1968 Camaro for my self and I have a G.M.C. 4x4 van and JACK and the GUYS keep up the great work

It's always something simple. That's what I was taught. I like the big block GMC! No substitution for cubic inches.

Turn the distributor while it’s running til it starts to falter then turn it back til it smooths out I threw my timing light out 40 years ago

First vehicle I ever learned how to drive was the GMC pickup had a 69 327 300 horse it ran pretty good for a truck

I would definitely keep the gmc I love front on those trucks the twin headlights etc and it just sounds great .

It's amazing how much AJ grew in a year, it would be cool to see some more of AJ's RC Off Roading... I would keep the GMC seems less problems with it than the Ford but who knows you've just got started on it.

Thats a good Boy you got there 😎 My cousin was born with a cleft pallette. Pretty tuff surgery in 1982. Im glad theyve made alot of advancements in how they go about it. She's a beauty..A valuable treasure that will continue to hold an increase in value as she ages..will say too..your a great mechanic..a skill that saves a ton of money knowing what an how to fix these things..you don't need anyone to tell you also that Truck is worth gold..there will be a line at your door waiting for a chance to buy that truck..but that is a hard decision to make no doubt

That is great that you figured out what the culprit was. I could not tell in the video what gauge wire you used but a HEI needs a minimum 12 ga wire. Also Holley carbs are notorious for blowing the power valve if you happen to have a backfire thru the carb. The newer Holleys have a built in check ball that is supposed to prevent that but it can still happen. Just something to be aware of if you didn't already know. I would definitely keep the GMC, but then again I am a Chevy guy.

That wire is a resistor wire. Mopars us an in-line resister and regular wire. GM used a wire with more resistence. It drops the voltage down to 9v to save wear and tear on the points. Not sure why it was at 5v.

Love the channel!! Was that original white wire cloth covered? I believe that truck was originally a points style distributor. So that would’ve been a resistor wire. Whenever you upgrade an older vehicle that had points. You got to get rid of that resistor wire (or ballast resistor whichever it came with) So you did the right thing. The HEI needs a regular non-resistor circuit to power it.

We have a 66 Comet with a 289, stock motor. When we went to go and time it the car wouldnt idle right and the timing was jumping all over the place. Ended up being a timing chain. My guess with that truck if the motor was newly rebuilt, if its a cheap distributor its probably something to do with that.

Check the fireing order and check to see if coils is getting full power and check the alternator is putting out full power check the gap on plugs also God bless y'all keep doing what y'all do just saying 😎..

I love the Bump Side, but I love the GMC too. It would be a difficult decision for me. Why not keep them both? If the GMC is a 5 lug it's a 71 or 72. Prior to 71, those trucks were all 6 lug. The Chevys were mostly coil spring rear suspension but could be ordered with leafs while the GMCs primarily came with leaf springs but could be ordered with coil springs.

I wonder if that yellow wire isn't pure copper... you could test resistance of the wire end to end on the piece you cut out. high resistance would give a large voltage drop under load (losing it to heat) but without load wouldn't be so bad. You get similar problems with chinese copper coated aluminium (sorry, aluminum!) Glad you got it fixed

AJ's rc car looks cool, my brother bought a cheap aftermarket distributor and the truck would not even run. Had to get another distributor, then it ran great

I love the 70s General Motors trucks I had a 72 Chevy blazer it’s the one I regret ever selling it.

The white wire is a resistor wire for the original distributor, just replace it. Ran into the same issue on a 1968 Corvette.

Most likely timing. I had a fresh machine engine never ran good until I hit the right tooth cam to dist… get the cam 6 - 12 degrees advance not tdc then drop in the dist

The original wire from the ignition "run" was resistance wire, because the original distributor was points style, and points don't like constant 12V, so that resistance wire took the voltage down to about 6 volts which is what the original points liked
