A new Cannondale in the shed meant the Enduro was forgotten for many months without much use. My goal of this build was to make the Enduro as user friendly as possible for someone new to the sport. I always want to get friends, family, and coworkers out on the trails to get more people in the community and make biking more enjoyable for everyone. A simplified drive train, a dropper post, and a rebuilt shock / new bearings makes this build a great beginner bike for those interested. Huge shout out to Kurtis Switzer for doing the Videography. Couldn't have done it without you!

@Doggy Joys Some bikes are worth "modernizing" and I'd say that this will ride better than it did. He spent money in the right places, 1x11 drivetrain, dropper post. suspension refresh. You can play around with an "angleset" headset and/or offset shock bushings and make this thing handle different as well if that's your goal. This model had a unique fork and is worth preserving. If you're not trying to win races you can still have a lot of fun with it. Good job.

Bomb proof front hub w 30mm thru axle and 203mm rotor. I love the E150. Got the seals changed after the recall on 2008, and I never had a problem after. It was never my everyday bike, but it ate up trail for 26." I still ride mine as an around the town bike. It is fun to hop curbs and dumb stuff like that.

I bought a new Pro Carbon Enduro SL in 2008 and it was okay. The E150 double crown fork was the let down- not very sensitive on small bumps and tended to need a lot of servicing. It got replaced in 2014 for a Carbon StumperJumper Evo, under warranty by Specialized, as the headset liner fell out 🤣 Good to see the bike again and a great restoration 👍🏻

To the time when this bike came out, I’d had every generation Specialized Enduro. This model made the others seem archaic. This bike was truly innovative and even after 6 months, I would get off the thing and marvel at its capability. For sure it’s geometry was outstanding. Upright seat angle, slack head angle, good pedal clearance, great rider triangle and a long wheelbase made it a comfortable trail weapon both up and down hills. Suspension tune was firm and the rear wheel would leave the ground occasionally when standing pedalling, but it was very efficient and would still use all its travel. Front forks worked great but required very regular maintenance of the lubrication rings or they would have a lot of stiction. Ended up using a combination of oil and slick honey. With a 1x and dropper, that bike would be a superb modern trail bike. The only constant issue I had was rear brake vibration which would then result in the caliber migrating out of alignment. No matter what I did, I couldn’t solve that issue. I made the mistake of blindly buying the next gen Enduro X-framed bike in 2010 and it was a dud. Geometry was way too slack in seat and head, bb too low and suspension wouldn’t get past 2/3rds stroke. That was my last Enduro. The ‘08 is a modern classic and I wish I’d never sold it.

Hi Tony, totally agree, I still have my 2008 Expert SL, which I upgraded to the superlight S-Works Roval wheels :) Looking at the modern bike market, there is nothing that even come close to this setup. I can't ride it anymore because the E150 fork has a crack at the axle clamp. Prob ok for gentle riding, but can't trust it for jumps anymore

I’ve seen a lot of restoration videos where people just throw away everything apart from the frame and essentially build up a new bike. While I still consider that a restoration you have done an amazing job at building this bike with a lot of its original parts. People should learn from you to reuse instead of buying everything new. I bought one of these when they came out. The proprietary axle standard and unchangeable stem length were unfortunate, but the capability of the bike was pretty unbelievable . I am keeping my eye out for another one to build up with a traditional fork.
@CalebBramsen
@CalebBramsen 3 года назад
Nice! I Totally agree. The axle is cool but really limits your wheel choices. And as for the stem, a modern fork would totally perform better but in my opinion the triple crown is part of what gives it so much character and that early Enduro look. Even though it's heavy and has no stem adjustment. Definitely snag one if you find one!
@bk83082
@bk83082 3 года назад
@@CalebBramsen I actually found another hub for sale and had it laced to a Stan's Flow, and I think Chris King and Industry 9 made 25mm hubs so the wheel choice wasn't as big of a deal as having zero choice in stem length. Absolutely. Don’t let your friends bully you. It’s not about what components you have it’s about actually getting out and enjoying nature. Keep on riding what you got!! That’s all that matters!

As far as I'm concerned the golden era of full suspension mountain bike's was from 2002 to 2012. Bikes created in that time were unique and phenomenal! Most bike manufacturers used 7005 triple gauge ( butted ) aluminum. The best material on the face of this planet. These days you won't find it anywhere except for 6061 which isn't bad but 7005 is far superior. I don't know if 7005 is harder to get ( being more expensive ) or if bike manufacturers are becoming sell out 's and making cheaper bike's. If you can get a bike with 7005 aluminum keep it for life!
@CalebBramsen
@CalebBramsen 3 года назад
Interesting. I know 6061 is the standard now, didn't know about 7005. Wonder why that is...
@battistaverardi1240
@battistaverardi1240 3 года назад
@@CalebBramsen 7005 is lighter stronger, harder to weld and does not need to be heat treated when making it so the metal is not compromised in any way. You need precise welds when welding it and all this comes at a cost. 7005 uses zinc which is an element that is hard to come by these days where as 6061 uses magnesium which is in abundance plus it's cheaper to make . I have cracked carbon fiber and 6061 frames but have yet to crack 7005. And 7005 is a lot tougher in the sense that it can handle all types of weather better. It never wears out. 7005 is bullet proof best material ever.

Freaking sweet💥Was the enduro the same frame as the 08-09 stumpjump but just with more travel?
@CalebBramsen
@CalebBramsen 3 года назад
Thank you! The frames were almost Identical, depends on which model you got as far as I can tell. But yes, the enduro has more travel, but you could swap almost all the parts between them of similar years.

This is great to see. I’ve loved my bike for over 10 years. It’s great. Did you not need to touch the rear shock? Like the seals or anything?

The rear had been gone though a couple months before I made this video so no need to touch it. It was in great shape anyway!

Nice Video. How much fork oil did you install in leg? And is there a torque spec from Specialized? Great Job!

Hi Caleb, great video! I have the same bike but my fork needs to be rebuilt and no mechanic would touch it because it's too old and maybe they can't get parts. I got a new seal kit and new air cartridge from Specialized. Could you do an instructional video on how to do this or send me step by step instructions. Any advice would be appreciated.
@CalebBramsen
@CalebBramsen 3 года назад
Hey Sergio, the fork may seem daunting but is (in my opinion) actually pretty straight forward to disassemble and service. The basic principles are the same for a normal fork service like this one - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F0ji4sGcCrE.html - Cleanliness is EVERYTHING. keep things clean inside and out as you disassemble / reassemble. Make sure to release pressure in the fork legs before disassembling. Use a light suspension grease on moving sealing parts, and don't overtighten anything. I used (If I remember correctly) about 25 CC of 7.5W fork oil in each leg. I'm not sure if this is the factory amount but the forks have performed perfect the past year. Fork oil is linked in the description. Hope this helps! Just take your time, keep things clean and stay organized. You are really just trying to clean any dirt out, and pop some new oil and seals in, and then of course pump the fork back up. I believe I run about 80 PSI. Let me know how it goes!
