How flat is flat? Most 3D printer users/enthusiasts have no mean how to check for flatness of big 8" aluminum build plate. In this [RAW] unedited video, I check for flatness of a aluminum build plate using calibrated tools (dial test indicator, heigh gauge and surface plate) and discover how great of a flatness is from Formbot Voron2.4 3D printer kit.
How flat is your 3D printer build plate? To me, 0.1mm is pretty flat. Thanks for watching and remember to subscribe to my channel Di-Ai-Why.

By the way, I use dial test indicator to check for a lot of things needed for 3D printer hobby. Buy one if you don't already have it. I'd suggest for Chinese made one below (affiliate link which also helps the channel) which doesn't cost a lot like Mitutoyo ones. Remember don't put magnet close to these Chinese made dial test indicators. You might damage them.

Great Video! 👍 may you also test with the bed heated to 100 degree Celsius. I heard that it might bend when heated.

It will warp for sure but a good bed mesh system will compensate for the uneven surface. Here comes the IDM scanner. 😀ru-vid.comBz2ODFq9isg?si=aAhXRtTixGKJkF53

First time see a calibrated imperial measurement Equipment. Nice test setup, but a short inch = mm calculation information will be nice next time.

Thanks for the idea, next time I am surely gonna do that 🙂 I wanted to upload as RAW that's why I left it as it is. Anyways, roughly 0.002" ~ 0.05mm (50 micron). So 0.004" is roughly 0.1mm (100 micron). The regular paper test which is suggested every where in 3D printing hobby is about 0.003"-0.004"

Nice to see the plate is in range of their stated measure, I am also building the 2.4 formbot kit, nice parts for the price. I will for shure buy an dial indicator asap. Have you tested the rails and the frame profiles?

I tested the motors here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WWF8mjZLdJ8.htmlsi=QE7CoxRWLhdOobwG which are also nice. Formbot didnt make these motors but at least they are not from bad quality batch. I didn't check systematically for extrusion frame. Some are flat against surface plate some are rocky but they are cut to right size. 2 of gantry extrusion members are flat and one is rocky (not so flat). I contacted them. They claim and say it's within spec. LoL. All rails in my kit are nice except one which has tiny play in it which i can feel it and sound terrible. At least they send me a new sliding replacement block.
