The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local man gift $500,000 this holiday season! Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and wants to help as many people as he can.
We will be surprising deserving people and families every day from now until Christmas with gifts unique to their circumstances.
Brennan O'Rourke is a single, full-time father of a 20-month-old son. He works with disabled adults to make ends meet while caring for his child. He is a 2 year recovered addict who has completely changed his life to be a better example to his son. And by changing his life, we mean everything. He doesn't do anything but work, care for his toddler and stick close to family for companionship.
He first started his recovery five years ago at age 21. When he and his girlfriend were in rehab, they learned she was pregnant. Both of them remained clean until their baby daughter died at one month of age. They awoke to find her not breathing. Brennan started CPR and mouth-to-mouth but to no avail. Leigha Marie died one day shy of her 1-month birth date. The autopsy later revealed that Leigha had Interstitial Pneumonia, which sometimes happens when newborns have to be intubated.
Brennan had PTSD for quite some time and both he and his girlfriend relapsed off and on. A few months later, they learned she was expecting again. Three months before the baby boy was born, Brennan completely changed his life. He recovered and is clean and sober still to this date. He recently celebrated his 2 year sobriety date.
Brennan is a full-time parent living with his parents but is saving for his own apartment and is set to start college soon. His dream is to have his son watch him graduate. He drives an old 1992 Ford pickup that is constantly breaking down (it's currently sitting in the driveway) and he shares a vehicle with his mom when he can.
Secret Santa was inspired by Brennan's story and asked the East Idaho News elves to go give him an early Christmas gift. Watch the video above to see what happened!

@@HollySmith-we2bf wonderful message , thank you , and Merry Christmas, Holly. 🎄 please pray for my daughter , 🙏 she's probably an alcoholic , and doesn't want to even text me anymore , I raised her to be a Christian but, she's very opposed to all that now. She needs God, and HIS Sons forgiveness , so much , it hurts me so much to realize the situation she's in.... her whole life and relationships will be ruined, if she doesn't get saved and can turn around from her own destructive behavior. 🙏

@@jaksiege9753 Hi :-) The part at the beginning where the reporter told us Brennan's story, was most likely filmed *after* the reporter had already spoke with Brennan and had gotten "the okay" (Brennan's permission) to go ahead and tell us. During editing, they put the "whole story" at the beginning as an "introduction" so that we would know what the circumstances were and what we were about to see happen. Merry Christmas, btw. 😃

Jak Siege do you honestly think if the young man wasn’t comfortable sharing his story, they would have told his story at the beginning??!! Of course not!! This wasn’t live guys! If he wasn’t comfortable sharing his drug addiction, then they wouldn’t have put that at the beginning of the video. But since he told his story when they met up with him, then that’s when they were like, “Okay, we can tell his story at the beginning when we edit the video because obviously he is okay with it.” Idk how any of you people on here have anything negative to say about the job they did!! I'm the kindest, most honest, caring person still so even though drugs took some of my personality away as far as how I used to remember fun jokes and tell good stories, it didn't break me! I'm still a great human being with lots of personality! Bless our Lord and savior, He answered my prayers. Hopefully now I can get a better job and get a place of my own, I feel so lost in life. @lawlmatty712
@lawlmatty712 2 года назад
@@meluk6991 I don't mind at all, the short version of what happened that lead me to chase synthetic feelings in drugs was that I grew up in a broken home feeling like nobody wanted me. Fast forward 14 years or so, and I started to party basically any chance I got because it just felt good at the time. That ended up escalating from just drinking to abusing drugs (My preference was Methamphetamine). I used regularly for about 2 years and was shooting up for the last 3-4 months of it. I was learning to DJ at the time so I'm sure many people could at least appreciate the appeal of a drug that makes you hyper focused and wide awake for days on end. Towards the end of my use, I had honestly already "wanted" to get clean, but my addiction was really powerful, to the point I passed amazing opportunities to make a better life for myself and always gave some stupid BS excuse as to why I had to refuse. UNTIL! I had noticed I'd been getting way more comments on how skinny I was than I'd ever normally gotten. (I've always been a skinny guy 145-150 since freshman year of HS) That kinda planted the seed that lead me to stand on a scale and realize I had dropped to a whopping 102 fully clothed. It was a wake up call for me like no other. A friend of mine that was in the Air Force at the time bought me a train ticket to come out to Minot ND from Chicago, and I wish I could say I've never once looked back or thought about using again, but I can say I havent for the past 4 or 5 years. After getting away from the people places and things that kept me using tho, I was able to get a job, saved up some money, started a relationship with my now wife and mother to 2 out of 3 of my beautiful daughters. All in all, I would never go back and change the fact that I used, it's help me be the person I am today. Twice just this year 2 different co-workers decided to literally start smoking meth right in front of me, all I could think about was calling my wife and hearing her voice. This path we addicts choose to take of sobriety is honestly an extremely bumpy road, but with the right motivation, the right stimulus, its a path we can succeed on!

I can just picture you being high and DJing and such... and then taking that trip from Chitown to Minot, ND... bro, was that a culture shock or what? I actually we to Nebraska for college and thought "what have I done!" But I'm happy to hear you are well and setteled, lovely family and all. In case you're wondering, what triggered my interest was your opening line from your previous comment... "those of us that are recovering know that being open is the greatest way to hold ourselves accountable and make sure we don't slip." For some reason that hooked me. I wanted so badly to be a person who could freely and genuinely love people instead of being so caught up in my selfish victim ways. I have had quite the time, it is not easy facing all of the demons that caused me to put walls up and alot of self destruction. I wanted to have a genuine heart for people who have gone through being thrown away like myself. I never dreamed I could make a month let alone 10yrs. This story blessed me beyond belief and the people who are in addiction and feel theres no way to have a better life or be a better parent..... Yes, when my husband worked with men in a recovery program, he always said that humility was critical to success. Many guys would think, "I got this." I tell you a story. Most of my life i felt that when you die, you just die. And that you just cease to exist. There is no pain or missing or anything. When you think about it, it is hard for our brains to imagine they stop working. But several years ago i had a stroke. Not just a stroke but one of those strokes where you go to sleep and die. Happens everyday. But i woke up.My left side was frozen. Every inch of my left side was froze and swelled up and on fire. And my right hand was swelled up. Slobber all over me and the pain was too hard to explain. I was alone and had fallen asleep on the couch with my right side to the inside of the couch. I used my right arm to push me face first into the floor. Anyway i was misdiagnosed. Later on the find i had this stroke that nobody lives from and 2 different specialists missed it. Why ? Because nobody lives from it. The one day the doctor says to me ( while we are arguing ) that i should be greatful to be alive. I said i was but my left side has limited motion and he says to me that my brain is dead for that movement and they cannot figure out how i move at all. So i'm like i am supposed to be dead ? He said not supposed to be but we have all spoken and we have no idea how the hole in your head , where it is , makes any of this possible. He looks at me and says the grace of god. Then said if you believe in that sort of thing. I laughed and just thought, man i am one tough sob. Then about 3 months ago i was thinking about something. When i sleep, i notice everything. A person standing there. A bug on me or mosquito or a spider. Even a cramp or if i'm laying funny. And i dream almost every night and i remember lots of those. But this night when i'm sleeping , i had my arm and leg and head explode. My eyes in torture and hands swelled up so big they could not close. My organs were in so much pain and it felt like i had 100 vices squeezing my body. I am a big old tough guy but that is pretty extreme. But i never woke up. All of that was going on and i never woke up. Everybody who had this stroke dies and i woke up. How ? Or why didn't i wake up from all that furious pain? Then i thought god maybe did wake me up just to torture me. I did not go to the doctors after that stroke. Rehabbed myself. Saw the first doctor 5 months later. The stroke cause high blood pressure that i did not have before it. So far i am still here. Your son may have died. And I lost my grandmother and 2 uncles in the last 3 months. I am here to tell you that he is fine. You miss him and i still miss my best friend who was killed by a drunk driver 31 years ago last month. You will always miss him but he is out there. He is out there because there is no way i just opened my eyes to that kind of pain. You can talk to him and he can't answer. But he is there. Whatever god is ,tapped me on the shoulder after i died, i do believe. You take care of yourself and be safe.

They both lived but he broke up his back and ended up on drugs. Honestly he was a good hearted man. God wants us to show love and think of the needs of others. Thank you for helping this man

My past has come to haunt me more than once as well and that's a difficult part of recovery I find. I'm working on a pardon of a bad choice now, so I can finally move on to a career that isnt going to kill me prematurely like the one I'm in now. Guess that's why the money is good if you think about it. Anyway, keep up the great work and thank you for your service.
