When my wife was young and living at home, Lee lived down the street from her family in Forest Park. He used to get out in the street and play with the neighborhood kids. He was always a good man, and all the neighbors, especially the kids, loved him.

This is not true, they used a survey that anyone could claim that they are native and held it in an area that didn’t have a large native population. And just because one person, who made money and or a career at selling out his own people, doesn’t speak for the majority of native out there. This 80% is bs and maybe they should try to have an honest survey and contacting the tribes across the US and having them survey there own tribal members and see if we still come up with 80%.

@@AsylumSaint the braves could be a great organization for natives, I was just pointing out how over recent history how natives tended to get pushed to the side and seen as a lesser.

Florida State has an Indian mascot in full dress riding a horse at their halftime while the band plays and the whole stadium chants. It's awesome and no one bats an eye. Leave our Championship team and our traditions alone !!!!

A lot of people don’t know that Native Americans used to make the foam tomahawks in the early 90’s not sure for how long. Even saw a Oprah segment about it. I agree with the Chiefs take on it completely Braves is an honorable name. Redskins is not at all it’s disrespectful.

How about the Native American High School in Washington State that uses that same name for their own team?

As long as the team name, logos, chants, etc. are accepted and broadly approved by Native Americans, I think it’s ok. It apppears that the Braves are cognizant of that and working with organizations to ensure they are doing the right thing.

I'm an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and a Braves fan. Just to play devil's advocate, Walker Jr. says 80% of his tribe (The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians) respects the organization. That's 3200 out of 4000 members. There are 574 federally recognized Native American tribes in the U.S., composed of a total of about 6.79 million members. That translates to about 0.05% 'respect' overall. No one person or group of people can speak for all of us. It's a complicated issue, and will benefit from more discussion. Just my two cents.

Today's media and cancel culture were the ones trying to get rid of the chop. So proud of the organization to stand firm. They do so much for the Native American community and the community supports the Braves.

3:23 to 3:31 ……this is EXACTLY what he told me when I met him in person at a sports memorabilia show a few years ago. I respectfully asked him his views on all this, telling him I was not wanting to debate, not wanting to cause trouble, but genuinely wanted to know the truth and the real story and not the narrative that the mass media wanted us to hear. I respect you guys airing his response and not editing it out.
