Only 400 umpires. That's less umpires in all of MLB history then there are players in a single year. It's 100x more unlikely to be an MLB umpire than to play in the MLB. That's how good these guys really are.
Is this a joke? Joe West was in the top three worst umpires over the past 20 years. He made situations about himself and his huge ego and massive sense of entitlement. He carried long-standing grudges which affected his calls. Now that he is gone fans can only hope that Angel Hernandez will be soon to follow him out the door.
@@sirissac234 You're allowing your judgement to be susceptible to a very few highly publicized instances of poor judgement. But over the course of his career, they are .0001% of his umpire life. He's truly a legend and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. No one should be judged based solely on the very few mistakes they made. Otherwise nearly no one should be in the hall of fame. I can only strive to be as good as him.
