No other sport allows its officials to start an argument and then eject the person he started the argument with. Baseball has an umpire issue that they created themselves.
Ellis bumping the ump and completely redirecting him away from Kershaw is just one of the most brilliant moves of all time. When you give someone absolute power - umps basically have absolutely power - it will corrupt absolutely. That's why this stuff happens.
I had something like this happen to me before in a men's league. Ump called 2 strikes off the plate, the 2nd one being strike 3 that was more than 6 inches outside. I said something about it in a non-confrontational way as I turned to go back to the dugout and next thing I know he was right behind me screaming at me. Told him I already said my peace and kept screaming at me when I was already in the dugout sitting down. Unfortunately some umps and people and general are just obsessed with power and often abuse it when there are no consequences.
@@Patricia-om3vo already happening as we speak to an extent, it was tested out in the Atlantic league. Robot will send a signal to the umpire letting him know if it’s a strike or a ball
@@nicholasmedovich6729 I feel the same way regarding Joe West, thank God that he's no longer a part of the MLB. Now I'm usually not in favor of extreme punishments of people, but Angel and Joe have done way too much damage to the reputation of the sport of baseball that extreme punishments are necessary.
@@frankcastle9691If somebody took a swing, it wouldn't be because they didn't like the call. Instead of telling somebody to grow up, you should learn about critical thinking.
It's easy to say that from the cheap seats. How about you put on a mask and a chest protector and go out there on the field and start calling games. There's a whole lot more to it than what you see on TV bud. Start by reading a rule book. And then read it again, and again, and again. Cuz that's what it takes. And make sure you attend mechanics clinics to help you understand the basics of positioning. And then actually go out onto a field in a 12u Recreation game. See those pitches, a lot of pitches! Work some travel ball and high school. Maybe if you're good enough try some college. Work hundreds of games each year, increasing your game management skills along the way. Learn how to work with difficult coaches and players. Hopefully, if you're good enough, you might be able to get a look at possibly being considered to be given a chance at even sniffing professional ball. If somehow you make it then congratulations would be in order. Your prize would be being granted the joy of working with crybaby pitchers like AJ Burnett. Oh and also the knowledge that every baseball fan on this planet thinks you're a piece of s*** So what do you say, you want to give it a shot? I'll even donate some uniform pieces and some equipment to help you get started.
Agreed! Nobody should have to deal with an ill-tempered Umpire, that just wants to throw SOMEBODY out of the Game to show their dominance over others, no matter who it is! This stuff is CRAZY!
The fact that there is absolutely nothing the teams can do when an ump acts like this is disgusting. There needs to be a way to appeal when an ump is pissed because he didn’t get laid last night.
It's gotta be because of their union. Unions were necessary at one point to counter the abuse of workers, but now they've become the problem. It's even worse when it's something that really matters like teachers or nursing home workers. They shelter and protect incompetence and negligence.
01:05 Anyone who hasn't listened to Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler call a ballgame before, I implore you to do so. Those two provide some of the best insights in to the game and often call plays, pitches, etc. before they happen. They don't just observe and report. It's like two guys and their closest 37 million friends sitting around talking baseball. Dan Shulman has been fantastic since he joined full time a few year back as well.
It's not fair game because he's literally the one in charge. Oh my word what is this cultural generation coming to. Take me to Asia. Bunch of whiners. A person who doesn't know how to show honor to the one in charge (even when he makes a mistake) has no honor him/herself. None.
@@solomon.powell Phuck MLB Umps, they are all a bunch of egotistical prima-donnas who get all butt hurt if they get called for making inconsistent calls behind the plate. If an ump is doing a lousy job, a player should be able to tell him so. IMO, any ump that approaches the pitcher's mound to start talking shit, should be fair game for a little "Nolan Ryan" action. They've done it in Pro Tennis, it is time to let technology call balls and strikes behind the plate and take the human error out of it. But I know it will probably never happen. I was glad MLB initiated instant replay into the game but it should be used for every close play.
Those refs would hate it being a ref in european football/soccer. We literally sing death threats towards them if they f it up. And non of them has the power to toss anyone of us out
@Woody Meggs I believe its actually the strongest in the country, which is quite odd and should raise questions. These umps have essentially ruined the game. they're all for themselves, they dont care that they're destroying a beautiful game.
@@stybur19 Umps are a part of the game. You don’t have a game if you don’t have umps. We don’t have to take your bullshit. You don’t like it, get a computer to do it.
@@leeroquemore8713 unless he made racist comment or what, I don’t see out that is appropriate. Like they said, he paid his seat, booing isn’t against the rule…
Exactly. These umps should be investigated by the FBI. Too bad Selig isnt still commissioner... this game is completely ruined by the authoritarian, fascist-like umps who are absolute cowards.
You know what? That wouldn't surprise me. Officials have been caught betting on games before in other sports, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in baseball.
@@stybur19 Selig turned a blind eye to the Rich Garcia betting scandal. All he cared about was having a Yankees/Brewers world series every year. Glad that corrupt old asshat is gone, just wish he wasn't replaced by a scummy corporate lawyer who condones and encourages cheating.
The issue is that they throw players who typically aren’t very good. The only time a player being tossed truly affects the game is if it’s the pitcher and it’s early in the game
4:50 that's.. a really terrible look for the umpire. How can he stand there and yell like that lmao. he looks even more psychotic than any player or manager I've ever seen complain.
When an umpire shows immediate aggravation or “temper”, THEY should be immediately thrown out of the game. They’ve reached the point of irrational fair decision making.
It is the catchers job to protect the pitcher, in every situation. From another player or an ump. You would rather have AJ tossed than Clayton. I played catcher my entire career (through college) and some of my best friends are those pitchers. You become pretty close. You have to think in a similar manner on the field. So friends make a good battery lol.
These umpires should be ashamed themselves. They have little to no patience especially when their strike zone is so inconsistent as the one announcer said. They need to learn to call the game professionally or find another job.
@@charlesstevens5745 Unless you're Angel Hernandez where the MLB actually thinks you suck according to court documents, but they can't fire him because the Umpire Union is too powerful.
@@acecrusher0288 can't argue balls and strikes. I can end the controversy and the owners could. No arguing balls and strikes do so the rule will be amended -first offense for the player, coach or manager 500000$fine. 40game suspension. Double after the first offence. Shut your mouth play ball. Joe west is awful , Hernandez a disgrace but bottom line is they make the calls for both teams this equals crappy but equally. That rule is there because with these and past players the game would take two days for crybaby tantrum time.

I like when the ump over reacts and throws someone out and then turns his back to that person. It’s the equivalent of a child closing her eyes because it means the monsters can’t see her now.
@@jeremyc9593 If someone starts a fight with you then immediately looks away and pretend they can't hear you anymore they're supposed to get a timeout it's three year old behavior. In every league the officials have lost their minds and taken the game off the field and into their whistles. Only way it ends is if enough teams start sending their scrub guys to rough em up a bit. I fully support if officials are gonna keep intentionally slanting games send the last guy off the bench and have him get the guys collar a bit and put that old school Shaq fear of God back in em
i want to see a player in his last at bat before retiring get into an argument and KO the ump. they need to be reminded they can be delt with like men if they act like a child.
Yeah you really are justadude because if you were an actual baseball fan you wouldn't freaking want electronic strike zones! They are the stupidest idea someone has ever considered, and only losers want them. Get off this video non-fan.
@@mlbashanti8885 First, who appointed you the arbiter of who is a fan? Second, your argument is stupid since almost no one goes to a game to watch the umpires. Technology affects sports all the time, whether "real fans" like you like it or not. Tennis adopted electronic lines, and it improved the sport. Just about all sports (including baseball) have now adopted instant replay, and most people feel it has improved the sports. Frankly, a "real fan" feels the outcome of a game should be decided by which team performs better, and not which team got lucky due to an umpire's mistakes.
Umpires are some of the biggest divas. Like literally nobody comes to the game to see the Umpire. Fans pay money to see their favorite players. For an Umpire to get in his feelings and eject a player because he isn't happy with your terrible strike zone is unreal. I am all for electronic Umpires
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….umps have to much power to throw out players. They can do whatever they want but as soon as a player responds they throw them out!!
I would have loved to see what happened had no one stopped mr badass on the last one. Lester could claim self defense and maybe MLB would take this bs a little more seriously.
@@IceWarrior101 The MLB argued in court that he was bad at his job. The union keeps him from being fired for some reason. I would think they'd cut him because he makes everyone look bad but I guess not.
@@Vexas345 What keeps him from getting fired is the discrimination lawsuit he had against them. Even though he lost it, it's still a bad look for MLB that they don't want to mess with. After that last Schwarber game where he was only 88%, it didn't help him any.
I've heard umps threaten players.. the usual "I'm gonna kick your ass" and as seen in this video, they get in your face and poke you in the chest and shit. And nothing is ever done to them for this behavior. But if a player loses his cool and pokes back or threatens an ump, they get suspended several games if not the whole damn season. Something doesn't quite add up. Baseball needs an overhaul regarding the umps and they're qualified immunity..
At 2:32 Martin the catcher shouted the words "I did not say that!!" But whatever"THAT" was that was not said he should have said it to the ump because that pitch was definitely a strike.
I think in the last clip Lester was pissed at himself, not the ump. It is frustrating as a pitcher when you have those games where you just can't throw accurately.
Every one of these umps should be suspended at a minimum, many of them fired. Umps need to be held to a higher standard. If they start a physical altercation with a player, that should be end of career on the spot.
@@riverdog1643 it is and it doesn't make it okay to do that because a ump made a bad decision now yes it is annoying as HELL but and it feels weird to say this but at the end of day it's just a game

The umpires were better when I was a kid. Most of the time, I never even noticed the ump. That was the way they wanted it. There was one great ump who was also was an official in the NFL.
Umps have waaay too much power in a game. Only sport where you can get thrown out just for disagreeing with a call. You don’t even necessarily have to say anything. Even giving the side eye or your body language can get you thrown out. Unreal that has gone unchanged for all these decades.
@@DrakeHunter324 Umps already make the game needlessly longer by taking everything personally and stopping the game to yell at people for noticing their bullshit. With the tech we have these days, it's easier than ever to see and analyze bad calls. The fact that the MLB does nothing to put a stop to it says nothing good about them. People complain about games being too long, but whats the point in watching a game of any length if umpires are going to blow calls and eject anybody that calls them out? Paying to watch a game like that almost feels like a scam.
Try NHL refs. They average one fight a game that they have to break up. Some games they can have a line brawl go on for several minutes. Just last week at the U18 World Cup, a ref took a accidental skate to the arm, needing dozens of stitches to close up.
