As a Marine Corps veteran who joined after 9/11 I am damn proud to be an American and appreciate our former President for recognizing us I will never forget 9/11

20 years ago that was a wake up call and most people didn’t wake up they fell back to sleep so now this is what you have

To those under 35, just know that America was a free and fun place. That day brought us together, for months everyone was there best self. That faded off over 2002, and then we lost our freedom when the Patriot Act was passed. Over these 20 years our freedoms have been stripped away for "our safety". I fear now we are almost at the end of what was know as America 🇺🇸 😢

I remember the news breaking here in the UK and then later seeing the pictures on our news channels, the horror of it all feels no easier after 20yrs. God bless the poor souls lost to loved ones.

20 years later and I still get that same feeling as I did when I was watching it unfold live on tv that morning waiting for the school bus... then to see the second plane hit on live tv I just remember running and screaming at my Dad who was sleeping on the couch and was just getting up that theyre doing it on purpose!!! My Dads birthday is september 11th and it took years for his birthday to feel "normal" again and still in the back of my mind lingers that feeling of how can we celebrate my dads birthday because nothing even matters or compares to what the family members of the fallen and everyone who was affected by this event is going through. Then finally made it to school and my principle made the announcement over the PA that the first tower fell... and I remember him saying such a tragic day. He was always upbeat and made his morning announcements fun and to hear how shaken up his voice was everyone was just in disbelief. Then around lunch time my parents pulled me out of school and I knew it was bad because my dad was crying and I literally only seen him cry 3 times in my life up to that point so I knew it was bad and thats when I found out the 2nd tower fell. I just couldnt help but ask what about the people, the fire fighters??? I will never forget that morning. I hope the people lost are at peace, and I am proud of the people who helped one another.. from the first responders to the everyday citizen who helped their fellow american. I am proud that the passengers of flight 93 took a stand. They had great courage that I will probably never know and made the ultimate sacrifice... but they saved lives.

Im sure we can all remember exactly where we were when we heard the news that day. I was in 9th grade math second desk on the first row by the door behind my buddy Ryan. I didn't believe it. We didn't have tvs with news constantly running and no classes were canceled. Life went on. It wasn't until I got home aftet going fishing with the fellas did it hit me. Honour and respect to those who rushed in while others were rushing out. Do you remember where you were?

Visit the memorial every year. Still very sad to go inside. God bless AMERICA!!

20 years ago…we watched 2,977 innocent men and women lose their lives in the chorus of 1 hour and 42 minutes… ---------------------- It was a day of terror, tears & triumph. Innocent lives were taken….ordinarily people were made into heroes…and our nation changed forever. The sadest fact for me was that even so many fire fighters from the NYFD died in those towers while trying to safe others. This still brings me really down.🇩🇪🇺🇸

I was just in the 6th grade, but I remember how scared he was. It was so far out of his wheelhouse that he did the only thing he could think to do. I think it's pretty fitting that he speaks at this, he did what he could. He was obviously pissed for those who died and for the families left behind. In hindsight it could've been handled better than it was, but he was afraid that he had just realized he was going to have to guide our country through another war. The wars of our fathers will someday end, and then someone else will pick a fight. Hard decisions will be made, and whomever is in office will have to find it in their self to know what to do. I come from a republican family, but have strayed into my own ways of thinking as an adult, but no matter your political stance, it's hard to say you wouldn't have done exactly what he did in the beginning as well.

The way Americans bound together was truly remarkable & for as terrible as this tragedy was & I will always think about the victims, I choose to remember America united. The drastic turnaround from then to today is almost worse than 9/11. Today it feels like the terrorists won, in 2001/2002 it felt like America truly was the greatest country EVER.

I was 10 when this happened. I enlisted 8 years later and deployed to Afghanistan. Now, I cant behold what is tearing apart our nation over poltical divide. How are we the people letting this happen?

I was in my 5th grade classroom I didn't quite understand what was happening but by all the teachers faces and demeanors that day I knew something bad was happening. Ill never forget coming home from school and watching the news. I'll never forgot. 🗽
