Everywhere we are suffering because of rental crisis¬ enough houses/units etc..this is a great idea maybe governments should think about all the buildings just sitting idle&turn them into apartments
So, I guess you want to take more tax dollars to do the renovations? I’d rather see a developer renovate and make the buildings a going concern. It would be cool if they employed homeless people on the project though.
This is so awesome! Every unused school building should be turned into apartments. I actually used to live in an apartment building that used to be a high school, but mine was converted in 1929. So it doesn't really much of anything inside that would make you think it used to be a school, since schools looked very different back then. It was the Lincoln Grammer School in Hopewell NJ. Wouldn't it be a funny coincidence if someone who lived there ended up moving to Vinton and living in this other building?
Ok it's all great but 11 MILLIONS?! FOR THAT?! Guys don't u think it's too much! Gosh if CONVERTING an existing building costs this much I can't imagine how much is gonna cost to build a completely new building
The actual land value may make up the bulk of that cost - what are comparable property values for that location? Putting the building up to code, adding plumbing and electricity, etc - as well as making sure the roof and foundation are safe, are major expenses. There's also the built-in cost of upkeep and maintenance. The cost may be comparable to a new build on undeveloped land, but the respect for heritage buildings, as well as preservation vs new build, is commendable. Not everything for a community can be measured in dollars. The long lasting results will be in the decades going forward, as the character of this town are preserved for future generations, rather than obliterated for quick profit.
Omg I thought they where talking about the new Byrd highschool I was like wtf are you taking about 😭 Bc I was just walking though the hallways yesterday
Nice apartments, but if the pupulation is increasing, why would a high school close? Can't be aging problems. The high school down the street from me is nearly 100 years old and still is used today. C K McClatchy HS.
I wonder how many of the 10 that had been leased out where our classmates because I would only pay to live in my fav classroom!! #ifthosewallscouldtalkitellya
@1:28 "...It runs the whole gamut." Except people with children. Everywhere I go I see towns that cater to professionals, single people, retires/empty nesters. How did these people start life? As children! No one is building larger spaces for growing families. From tiny houses to tiny 500 sq ft. apartments, townhouses and condos with strict rules that practically discourage families with children, seems like there is an agenda...I can't quit put my finger on it. 🙄
