How do you know which power supply to choose from? I'll teach you how to work the formula to figure out watts for LED's so you can choose a power supply for RGB LED lights for any project. If you have any questions afterwards feel free to contact me and I'll be glad to help you. If you have any questions or you would like for me to do research on something, feel free to me and I'll might make a video to answer your questions.
Thank you
One more point, on the side of must Power Supply there is a red switch that you will need a small screwdriver that you will need to push to 110V from 220V. Because these Power Supply are used world wide they have two settings to accommodate European or USA power.
Give us a thumbs up if you like this video.

Formula
Power 19.2W Per Meter
5M Per Reel
19.2 X 5M in a Roll = 96W Per Reel
96W X 4 = 384W
384W X 20% = 76.8W round up to 77W
384W + 77W = 461W round up to 500W Power Supply

Terrific explanation. I have been looking for videos that "slowly" explain that calculation. I am easily confused with all things electric but want to understand and luckily have alot of soldering experience. LED's are such a lovely effect and I really want to know how to safely utilize them. Thank you for sharing this info.

Great explanation. Thanks. I am a novice and need help. I am trying to set up a led accent wall and here is my design. I have "4" 12V WS2815 LED Strips of 5 meters each with 60 LEDs/Meter so a total of 1200 LEDs. I want to place two strips on the left side of the wall and 2 strips on the right side of the wall. All strips should run the same effect when powered on. I have a single PSU unit. How can I connect all these 4 strips to PSU and to Athom LS-8P controller such that they have same effect when powered on?

Is the neon was not manufactured to be used for both 120 and 12V then you will not be able to convert it. You will have to purchase a 12V neon which they make LED neon that is 12v.

Good evening help please. . I have a 5 meter long 12V LED. (FCOB I RGB IC LED light strip, WS2811). it consumes 12 watt/m so requires 12*5 = 60. + 20% it gives 80 watt. I plan to buy an esp32 for the controller with wled. I know that I have to buy a 12v power adapter which provides 80 watts even 100 watts. questions: you never talked about amps in the video, should I take amps into consideration or not? Does the power adapter adapt according to what the LED requires? Can I buy a 150 watt power supply without problem? (I plan to add another LED in the future). help me please

if you have 24V only if you go over 32 feet. if you have 12V only if you go over 16 feet unless you tap in the middle. what mean by that is if you have 12V and 32 feet of LED then you can tap in the middle at 16 feet then the power will go both ways. I hope this will make sense

what if you didnt have the package with the label? and say you had a foot or so of an led strip? could you count the number of led diodes and calculate it and figure out how many watts you needed? how would you go about that?
@thebesthowtobyclem6908
@thebesthowtobyclem6908 Год назад
Great question, normally you would want to contact the manufacturer or distributor. If you are only talking one foot or even up five feet, you can have a 25W to 50W PS. If the LEDS are really bright and you do not have the label, then using 4.7 X length in feet can give you a ruff estimate. If it's not bright then you can use 1.4 X length in feet. If you are running more than two reels you MUST calculate what you need to make it work efficiently. I hope this helps.

How do I get that information if my LEDs do not tell me any of that information?? My LEDs did not come with that label and when I go on amazon to find out the W/m it doesnt say anything on that. How do I figure this out? Im running WS2811 addressable LEDs
@thebesthowtobyclem6908
@thebesthowtobyclem6908 11 месяцев назад
Unfortunately there are a lot of cheap companies that are producing LEDS and not giving that info. Sometimes you can find it in the description when you purchase them. Another option is to buy a special meter that you connect to the LED and it will tell you how much power you are drawing per roll if you connect the whole roll.
@javvoltage9632
@javvoltage9632 2 года назад
Let’s say I have 16 feet of length on an under cabinet and the led diode starts at 5 feet from the power source. I now have exactly 16 feet to go underneath the cabinet. How would I take account for that 5 feet of extra wire hiding in the cabinet or do I account for that? I’m assuming that 5 feet will still make the end of run, dim because now the run is longer than 16 feet, correct?
@thebesthowtobyclem6908
@thebesthowtobyclem6908 2 года назад
Great question, the 5 feet will not make a big difference. nor will it make it dim. you will be good. It's when the wire run starts hitting 60 or 80 feet and longer and depending on the length of the LED strip is where you need to consider a thicker gage wire.

Ohm’s law. Watts equals voltage x amperage. From here you can switch it around. You have your voltage and your watts so it’s simple math. But 90 watts is 90 watts regards of voltage, just have to worry about the current (amperage).

@1:30 Does this mean that a 5050 RGB LED Strip of 5M will consume 96Watts of power? Is it the same for similar WarmWhite LED Strips? If so, how/why are LED's labelled 'economical/efficient' please?
@thebesthowtobyclem6908
@thebesthowtobyclem6908 Год назад
I will not be able to answer your whole question, but what I can answer is that a 5050 RGB will use what the label says 96w only if all 3 LED colors is being used at the same time to create a white color. If you turn the RGB to a white color, then and only then it will use max amount of W. If you only use one color like blue or red or green, it will use 1/3 of the power. If you want teal, orange, purple, pink, etc. then it will use 2/3 of the power, that is because it will need two light diodes to create these colors. This particular LED sound pretty bright you can install other LED that does not required to be that bright, but remember that you are covering about 16'3" of LF.

@@thebesthowtobyclem6908 Thank you for the explanation. 👍 Even 1/3 of 96 means 32W of power....phew...

At 64 feet of LED’s yes, you’ll need power injection several places even at 12v.

how to connect 20m together to one power supply
@thebesthowtobyclem6908

One way to do it is to have each spool or 5m roll connected to PS or we call it home run or home base. So if you have 4 spools then you will have 4 home runs. Like I mention this is one way to do it with out soldering. I have other videos talking about this on my channel.

Thank you for your informative video. I have a question please. I am setting up 4 runs of 16.4 feet RGBW. If I use a 500W power supply, it is still safe to use the 5 strand 22AWG wire, or do I need to go larger, like to 18 or 16 Gauge? Also, can all 4 LED strips be merged to the same controller, to assure accurate music synchronization? Syncing to music is the only reason I need these lights. Thank you very much!

You can still use a 22AWG wire. The only reason you would use an 18 if you have a very long run from your LED to your PS. Like 150 feet or more. You can merge all LED strips as long as the controller can handle it. You will need to check with the manufacture of the controller to see what is the max allowed. I hope this helps.

@@thebesthowtobyclem6908 This is fabulous news! My run will only be 16 feet from the PS to the furthest strip of 16.4 feet. I really appreciate your knowledge and suggestions. Thank you very much!!!

Not a good idea! This wattage per foot will require a welding hood when you turn them on. You should never run that many watts on one power supply. Your asking for a fire.

I have been doing this for over 10 yrs. Our company has done work for major companies and high end restaurants and several islands with highly satisfied customer and very little call backs if any. So my friend, I do have some knowledge about this subject. Unless you are misunderstanding something I said.

Great video. Very helpful. (Subscribe... check. Notification Bell... check) One question, if you halve the strip length and treat each half as a stand-alone strip (each strip getting its own supply of power) would that halve the power need?

First I want to thank you for subscribing. I hope I'm understanding you. Example if you have a 16 foot strip and lest just say it needs 25 watts but you want to cut the 16 in half giving you 8 feet so now you have two 8 foot strips then you will still need the 25 watts to power them both. But if you are wanting to only use one 8 foot strip then you will only need 14.5 watts to power that 8 foot strip. Please let me know if I answered your question. If not then please ask me in a different way.
