I can't believe I found this video. I went to Basic Training summer of 1987 at Fort Sill, 13B. This was my year! Thank you for bringing back the memories!
The single thing that I recall most about basic at Ft.Sill was the smell of all that gear in the TA-50 issuing facility. I think it was primarily the plastics, like canteens, wet weather gear and such. So much in that hot building created an oder that stuck with me. Every once in a while I encounter a similar smell and I'm transported back to that first few days in basic. Typically happens in a Army surplus store or a flea market booth full of that gear.
I was there 1987 Drill Sergeants Walker and White, Old WW2 Barracks, 1/33 FA OSUT Those were some Great Times Can’t believe how FAST Time flys 18 when I went in, 51 Now Ft Sill changed my life for the better, and I will hold it close too my Heart Ooh Shaa
Funny thing about watching this Video I am a retired Firefighter from Nyc Did 20 years, I'm a dad too 2 boys and I'm married 25 years. I went through Basic in 1987 Osut, and I still hold that time in Ft Sill so Close to my Heart. I can still remember the Barracks/old WW 2 barracks. My 2 drill Sergeants The whole time in Ft Sill has really stayed in my Memories all these years Amazing times
Christopher Sicarta I was there in 87 an was in the ww2 buildings my Ds see Tucker an Williams at first I was in 1st platoon with DS Crowther an Binum a lot of good memories
Christopher Sicarta I agree I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in the old WW2 barracks as well Foxtrot 1/33rd to be exact. I was there from July of 88 to September and I remember my DI’S as well Olenmacher (probably didn’t spell that right) and Bruce. I thought I was in hell on earth and they were demon spawn but let me tell you what I miss them both and I have nothing but complete respect for them and I assure you they were a huge part of they way I turned out and the man I became. I ended up doing three combat tours before I retired and these were the real deal not in the rear with the gear. I never made a lot of sense out of all the training and yelling until we came under fire for the first time but let me tell ya I got the picture REAL fast when the lead started flying. I retired out as a Lieutenant (guess I had to see how the other half lived). I am proud of becoming a Lieutenant but I figured out REAL fast being enlisted was a helluva lot easier when you consider the hours I put in during my 3 years as an officer. I have a lot more pride in my enlisted time the camaraderie was a feeling a person whom never served could never understand especially the excruciating pain and feeling of losing a fellow soldier and best friend on the battlefield. That is a loss you feel so deep that your life never recoups from. My life has been off the tracks ever since. Everyday I wake up here in my country is nothing but pain that I made it home and he didn’t and no counseling or anything the military or civilian folks have ever said or done have ever made it better. But I promise you this I wouldn’t take my time in the service back. Other than losing him the only thing that ever hurt anywhere near that was the day they made me retire. I just don’t fit in out here and if given the opportunity I would go back in today and I’d stay until they played taps.
I was there in '88. Just finished a 2022 video of Sill boot camp and then watched this one, Big difference in the quality of recruits. Gen X > Gen x-box
I had alot of guys in my Platoon from Wyoming who were in 11th grade, because of the timing, they were able to fit the whole OSUT into one Shot. In the video, I saw 2 Drill Sergeants who I remember and The Lady who had old burn scars on her Arms, she was fitting my platoon for uniforms at our Dress uniform Issue Memories
hahaha I remember hearing that, when reception battalion was over and they loaded us into the cattle cars, drove us around, we arrived at our training battery, cattle car door opens - then that. Good times ;)
@@kostoffj Haha....I remember they used those Cattle car transporters to take us out to the rifle range and other places. The Drill Sergeants would cram us in those things like sardines. One of them used to say " Get in there! Make your buddy smile ". Haha I did my US Army Basic Training at Fort Sill in 1979.
I was there July 82. Thanks for the memories. Echo 2 4th platoon. ANIMALS Sgt. Berthold and Sgt. Peterson. Wish I would have stayed in touch with the boys. Jonesy, DeCastro, Uli Uli Fetui, Rivera, Gresham, Kelly, Bynum. Love you guys.
August 1983 15D. Took me about a week and a half to get used to the continuous shelling so I could sleep. This brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for uploading this video. I graduated OSUT in 1986. Some good and bad memories of my time there. This video was really cleaned up for RU-vid. I wonder what D.S. Laboy and D.S. Lopez are doing these days.
29:02 WOW!!!! My old unit!!! I was C Btry 6/33 1st Firing Platoon, the 212 stands for 212th Brigade. That track is the STL (Standard Transport/Loader) that resupplied our Launcher track with the Missile. 15D Lance Missile Crewman.
Did basic at Fort Still in 1983 (old barracks). Stationed at Fort Sill in '87 (time this video was shot) with 2bn/37th FA. Glad the video showed the old barracks at approximately 21:00. I do remember the old dining facility and gas chamber. Seems like a lifetime ago.
Also did Basic/AIT at Ft. Sill in 1983, A-5-3, was also my Permanent Duty Station (C Btry 6BN/33FA 1st Firing Platoon), but I was a 15D, Lance Missile Crewman/MLRS Sergeant. Was ETS’ed in 1986.
3-18th FA battalion 84-85. Loved Sill. My great grandmother lived in Lawton and I would spend my weekends there (sometimes). My dad is buried on main post cemetery.
2nd Platoon, C Battery 2nd/30th FA. March to May 1987. Drill Sergeants Buckner, Seay & Mad Dog McKnight. It was fun, but most importantly it gave me confidence way beyond what I had ever had to that point. They taught us to Soldier and to survive anything but a direct hit! Spring at Ft. Sill: Freezing your nads off one day, and sweating them off the next. We all caught a cough and kept it until after training was over.
Started 13B OSUT in January of 1988 with SSG Thompson and SSG Quick. In the old barracks at first but then moved to the new ones just down the street from the Gunner's Inn. Good times.
A btry 2/80, 4th platoon from Mar84 to July84!!! Was a good experience for me at the time, but was happy when it was all over and I got to leave Ft Sill!!! Hated that place and NEVER want to ever go back!!!!

I've been to Fort Sill on at least Two occasions. Field Artillery cannoneer course in September 1986 1st All Marine Class. And then later for Two weeks of Field Artillery cannoneer sustainment training Had fun both times. But it was hard work and crazy weather.
@@JT-ur1pf Good times for sure. Lawton O.K. was like a one-horse town back then. I enjoyed the experience and the History of FT. Sill Geronimo's Burial site and General Sherman etc.. was all really cool history, shooting the howitzers and learning the duties of the cannoneer was also a good experience too. I remember the crazy weather either hot and muggy or cold in the winter. I liked my time in the Field Artillery for sure. there is nothing quite like it.
7th Training BN, Echo Battery, 2nd Platoon, Assistant Platoon Guide. I was there from SEP 84 through Feb 85. Drill sergeants Jackson, King, and Bernard. Love it!
Hi Michael. I was in Echo Battery 1-33 2plt (bulldogs) with you in 87. Drill Sergeants Knight and Gleason. Lost my yearbook and video over the years so was nice to see online.
Winter 1982, anybody remember Drill Sgt. McCallum "The Threat". Was not in his platoon but he took me and about 10 others on a nice 5 mile run in our combat boots.

Something guys dont know. You could screw up, make a mistake, they will demote you, but if you work hard to correct your mistakes, you make you rank again, this is a very good mark on your records, they see you humbly acknowledged your fault, you worked on your self to get it right, righted your wrongs. The post commander will have up most respect for you. You will gain your ranks back and the trust of your peers. In no other job in the civilian world have I ever heard of that would be this forgiving if you screw up, they just fire you, dont give you another chance. The army will if you just do the time. I gotten in trouble, was busted from E4 to E3. But after a year of hard work, I got my E4 rank back, then about three months later, they seny me to NCO school to become Corporal,. then it wasnt even a year and i was refered to be promoted to E5. I made my mistakes and over came. The Army really appreciated that and rewarded me. Thats something that turns the general on i guess, seeing you screw up and you work to correct yourself, shows you have some guts to be a soldier. You take care of the Army, we are a clan, we will take care of you, its called comrades. You learn this about the Army, you will go places. I didnt leave the Army because I disliked it...i just felt that I had done my time serving my Americans and that they let me free to be a sovereign man among men.
And just because i ETS from the Army, doesnt mean that dropped all thoughts o soldier. I didnt make that oath and creed to the Army, about to defend my fellow Americans...I made it directly to you my fellow Americans..no matter if in uniform ot out domestically.RANGERS CREED. To basically protect all of my Americans. I may seem very ego filled, boisterous, dogmatic..but if you hold a American social security card, then you are who I sworn in to protect. This is why the Army or military will never turn on you Americans. In the coming age, there will political strife, but the military is at odds with the government. The government might think the American military will be at it side..but not when its comprised of Americans. Its a little game they are playing.
Lawton airport: would actually CLOSE at midnight! Locked up and lights off. I missed my flight out to Dallas and figured I would just sleep in the terminal until the next day and then go home,,,,boy I learned a lesson that night!
I can remember singing cadence after hearing Drill Sargent Carter's voice. "Hard Work" I graduated 1988 Echo 1/19 WWII barrack's 13Bravo towed Artillery unit m198 cannon cocker OSUT..I was the last unit to graduate from WWII barrack's, which would've been torn down. Frithlethrend , Hey I just read your reply , You and I were in the same platoon drill Sargent Dallas /Carter Whoa!! You just gave me a flashback! I am PVT. Simpson.
