Good evening! Thank you very much for over 6,200 subscribers - I really hope you enjoy this walk around the fascinating (albeit rather rainy) Highland town of Fort William! My apologies also for a couple of wipes of the camera lens during the walk - just trying to get rid of a few pesky raindrops :) As for some bonus info on the town, we mentioned how some have said Fort William should change to its Gaelic name 'An Gearasdan'. While Scottish Gaelic is more widely spoken in the Highlands, only around 7% of the population speak it in Fort William, significantly less than the Outer Hebrides off the Mainland, where around 60% of people speak Gaelic!

When my great grandmother was in school she had the gaelic drummed out of her, it was considered taboo at the time. To put a date on thing's, she worked as a maid when the observatory was still in use on the summit of Ben nevis.

My mom was a Cameron descendant. I visited Fort William in 2015, to see where my Cameron ancestors lived. They left from Fort William on a ship in 1803 to come to Canada. I fell in love with the place. Thank you for the video 🙂

I love my country 💙 I've been lucky to have visited this spectacular area many times esp when my two children were growing up.. Spent many a time walking up the high street in Fort William, exploring all the different shops and learning all about the interesting history n then into Glencoe 💙 where we pitched our tent at the campsite on the loch, hotels in Fort William on later visits ... I just fell in love with the scenery, its just out of this world, its truly amazing. I'm goin up in oct this time in a motorhome and I can't wait to get back, its been a few yrs. Its my most magical place, my Glencoe 💙

My husband and I have just spent a week in Glen Nevis and visited Fort William. Watching this video has made us want to go back there, and we only left a week ago. The Highlands are absolutely stunning and our favourite place to visit. We also did a bit of the mountain track of Ben Nevis which was hard going but it was a lovely day to try it out. One day we hope to get to the top. Absolutely stunning part of Scotland and we will definitely be back. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful and informative video about Fort William and its history.

That's so wonderful to hear! I'm sure you had an absolutely wonderful time in the Highlands, they really are a spectacular part of the world, and Fort William is a great place for exploring some of the most impressive parts of the whole region, including Glen Nevis! Well done on trekking up a bit of Ben Nevis too - it sounds like a tough walk, I've never attempted it myself I must say! Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video :)

I hope you were the type to leave it as you found it. There are SO many tourists that just demolish nature and leave garbage and broken wildlife behind them while feeling good about experiencing the highlands as they destroy it. I believe you should either leave an area as you find it or better yet pick up after others to keep it clean. I wish I would be surprised that tourists leave garbage but it’s common now and not surprising so it’s upsetting to find tourist trash left behind.
@ravenlunatic2627
@ravenlunatic2627 2 года назад
@@wizartr0n My husband and I are NOT those types. We take our litter with us and we find it so annoying when people do leave their junk behind. There are plenty of bins to use so there's no need for it. I don't drop litter where I live so there's no way I would leave it anywhere else!! I actually take offence to being referred to as some tourist who does not respect my surroundings. We are not all the same.
@wizartr0n

@@ravenlunatic2627 sorry it offends you. But if you see your own area trashed by tourist you’ll know what I mean. Whether it’s a majority or a minority, I’m fed up picking up after people that just drive though and fly dump their crap all over the place I live Probably seemed like I blamed you personally. I’m just frustrated by the whole thing

That sounds spectacular! The Highland scenery in Scotland is easily one of the best in the entire world - and even though Ben Nevis might often be hidden among the clouds, the Valley of Glen Coe, the lochs and all the things that come together to make the scenery are absolutely jaw-dropping :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed this video!

I was staying in Fort William because I was going to climb Ben Nevis and after I did climb it, got back to the hotel and showered and rested a bit. I then left the hotel to get something to eat but every shop, pub and restaurant was shut at 10 so I walked 2 miles to a petrol station for a rustler burger and Irn Bru, I got back at 23:54 and my hotel locked its doors at 12.
