In this video Craig takes a look at a control board for a Trojan treadmill. I show you how to diagnose the fault in real time without all the usual blab. the board number is DCMD67.

I do these things at home so that you don't have to. Electrickery can kill you! 💥☠️
If you insist on trying these things yourself, I and/or any company and/or person that I am affiliated with cannot and will not be held responsible for any damages, loss of life and/or injuries that you may incur and/or cause to those around you. Simply put - you do this at your own risk. ☠️
I am doing this to raise the capital needed to start our own brewery.
I do not do electronic repair as a profession - I work in the Control & Instrumentation engineering field. I have however worked in electronics repair many years ago. I take these repairs in to fulfill the point mentioned directly above and to keep my hands and eyes in as technology changes.
Please do take care when working with live circuits. Mains voltage 110/230VAC at 60/50Hz has the potential to kill you. 💥☠️
All #craftbeer is reviewed against the #BJCP 2015 style guidelines and the style as published on the label of the beer. If your #beer is labeled as a lager but brewed as a Weißbier - I will rate it as a lager. Don't get upset with me - you as the brewer should know better. I am not here to guess the appropriate style for your beer.
I buy the beers myself and do not review any beers that are sent to me by commercial brewers. I will however rate beers that are brewed by other home brewers from time to time.
All thoughts, views and opinions are purely my own and not necessarily those of anyone I am affiliated with.
====* Tips *====
* Don't work in isolation. Always try to have someone that will check up on you periodically or even better keep an eye on you. Accidents happen in the blink of an eye. 👍
* Make sure the person watching over you has no direct benefit from your demise. There is no point in adding temptation to the mix. This would rule out wives, whether past or present, mistresses and most girlfriends. 🤣
* Remember to check that those bulk storage capacitors are discharged, they can hurt you badly and have the potential to kill you.
* Don't skimp on your test equipment. Always buy the best quality you can afford. There is a reason why professionals use multi-meters like Agilent, Brymen, Fluke etc. All the functions in the world mean bugger all if the meter blows up in your hands and kills you because it is not designed safely. 💥☠️
* Alcohol abuse is a serious disease. Don't drink and work on live circuits. Alcohol impairs the ability to make sensible judgments. This point applies to other facets of life too, or so I've been told.
* When caught going down the rabbit hole, walk away and come back another day. Sometimes a fresh perspective is all that is needed to find that elusive fault.
* Cats are good for your mental health - adopt - don't buy. And no, mine are not up for adoption. 🙉🙈🙊
* Life is too short - always try to see the lighter side of things. You may just find that you have a smile on that dial, sometimes. 🤫

Hello Dear Sir. I've seen a number of your vids and I am very interested in your treadmill and other exercise equip. board repairs. Excuse my ignorance, I am trying to learn these concepts. The IGBT and flyback Diode do the heavy lifting, PWM control. I understand that part. The part you were replacing, this full wave rectifier, and switching chip, that controls the switching of the transformer? Is that considered part of a Switching Mode Power Supply for this board to provide regulated 16V for VCC? Thanks very much for taking the time to post these videos!!! It is very helpful.

Hi Andre, The IGBT or FET (it seems different boards use different devices for the switch) do the PWM for speed control to the motor - correct. The Flyback or freewheeling diode (it has many names) is there to clamp the over-voltage to the positive rail when the magnetic field in the motor collapses when the IGBT/FET is turned off. This over-voltage can destroy the FET/IGBT. So the current caused by the collapsing field will recirculate or "free wheel" back through the motor coil, through the diode, through the motor coil until the field has collapsed and the voltage is zero. In these boards, there are two rectifiers. The big main one that gives you a 325VDC rail which is smoothed by the bulk storage capacitor and then switched via the FET/IGBT to drive the motor. The second rectifier is for the control circuitry. This gives us DC which is then switched by the off-line switcher with it's transformer (We want to "buck" the circuit or step the voltage down). This voltage then is regulated and powers the micro controller, some logic and the FET gate driver chip. This is the PWM that drives the gate of the FET/IGBT which switches the main DC line to the motor. So there are two PWM circuits - one for the motor and one for the control circuitry (what you are calling VCC). A good way to perhaps understand the circuitry is to download the MC34063 datasheet. In the treadmill board, the inductor is replaced by a transformer. For this specific board, the offline switcher was a TNY266, you should be able to find a datasheet for that and it should show you roughly how the control circuit voltage is derived. No worries mate, if these videos help one person - then I've achieved my goal. Cheers Craig

@@foulkesbrau3085 Craig: You are so awesome to give me such a detailed reply. Thank you so much for this and your wonderful videos. I will look up the datasheets and study them further. I am a fitness equip tech who is trying to better himself by learning how to repair boards rather than just swap them. Stay safe, all the best to you my friend!!!! :->

Ta Andre, I’ve just repaired another switching power supply - for a PS1. I’m busy editing the video so it should be out later. The boards you’re trying to repair are very simple. Those data sheets will have typical application circuits. Most times, the manufacturer will copy them as is. With the type of boards you’re looking at - 95% of the time it will be the components doing the hard work as well as whatever is driving them, normally the opto coupler. Best of luck with your endeavors. Cheers Craig

How can I get my DCMD67 board to you for repairs

Hi there, It would depend on where you’re based. I’ve gone back to varsity and am studying in Ireland. So I think the courier fee may be more than the cost of buying a new board. Again, it depends on where you’re based. So you would need to check with your local courier. Cheers Craig

@@foulkesbrau3085 Thank you for the reply I'm in South Africa, Port Shepstone, KZN. If you are in Ireland, I suppose the courier cost will be the price of a new treadmill

@janvannycoetzee9168 The courier cost here and back will be about R2k. I’m not sure if that’s worth it, never mind the state of postal services that side.

@@foulkesbrau3085 R2k and 2years if you are lucky enough to receive it back. Someone in Gauteng sells new boards for R2k4 but even that you are not sure whether it's a scam

Hi Sheldon, Doesn’t tell me much. Something must be getting very hot and shutting down. Might be the thermal paste on your FET etc has dried out? Might be something not making a good contact? Might be a component on its way out? I really have no idea unless you give me more information. Cheers Craig
