I dealt with this exact issue, but I have a 2014 Lexus GS 350 F SPORT AWD. It is worth noting that they have the same fuel D-4S injection system with both the direct and port fuel injectors. Myself, I had to replace the direct fuel injectors. An advanced Lexus specialist worked on the car and I know him personally and was able to fully articulate why it was specifically the direct injectors and pointed to the fuel trims. I would recommend getting your car diagnosed professionally. Not trying to say that it might be just your direct injectors, but I honestly think that might be the case given the similarity.
@@ChrisVoight At about 107,000 miles. This had resulted after an incident with bad gasoline (I had to drain the whole fuel tank), so my engine has gone through more wear then normal.
I recently did a coolant valley plate re-seal on a 2014 LS460 AWD due to a coolant leak, and while disconnecting the direct injector harness one of the direct injector connection points snapped clean off due to how brittle the plastic became over 100k miles of heat cycles. Our shop had to eat the cost of the injector and it was nearly 500 dollars just for one injector, teflon seals (which require a special tool to install correctly), and the o-rings for the rail side of the other injectors. My advice... if you do take this job on yourself, be VERY careful when disconnecting the direct injectors and the AWD harness does not come fully out of the way due to the starter wire harness being blocked by the exhaust manifold, but you can free it up enough to use a bungie cord on the hood latch to get enough space to work the intake out. May also want to consider having the dealer install those teflon seals on the tip of the new injector for you as doing it without the special tool seems like it would be a nightmare.
Having the same issues on my '02 sienna with 330k plus. Replaced the spark plugs and coils on bank 1 with denso parts and I'm still getting the codes. At least it's running a lot better tho and not like shit anymore lol
Hey Marty...I'm not sure, but if it has direct injection, then it may be some carbon build-up inside the intake manifold. If the issue persists under moderate to hard acceleration, then check your fuel injectors and connectors, which are prone to becoming brittle and breaking causing issues. Best of luck with your awesome car.
My 2019 accord had the same issue. Mine was most likely the motor after the fuel injectors were replaced. Hondas turbos have issues and mine didnt make it to 100k. at least its working mine was shaking horribly and very low power. got rid of it before the light stayed on solid
I hate these no-see-ums in the engine bay. I recommend looking at any ground cables and bolts for corrosion and fraying. Though a ground problem would be less likely to be cylinder specific. Also there could be a wire in the harness leading to cylinder 6 coil or injector that could have chafing or rodent damage, causing a grounding short. Injector harness cable is thin and subjected to so much heat and vibration that it's one of the first things I look at when I pull an intake manifold off. I've wrapped a few here and there with electrical tape to give them a little extra time to live.
Had the same thing happen to my 09 gs 350. Replaced cylinder 5 and 6 with new spark plugs. When i punch it the engine light comes on. I traded it in yesterday and got a 2017 gs. Good luck!
I wouldnt be a bad idea to do a smoke test before you start tearing it apart just to pin-point any vacuum leaks that you may have. It would say its very likely a direct injector but checking for any unmetered air could save you some work.
Nice ride. Love that black on black even though it will cook you where I live! Lol. Got the same year model but 2 wheel drive and not a Sport. 215k. Got run off the road into a metal light pole (not much damage, barely touched the hood) and all of a sudden It act like it don't want to stay cranked and I'm getting a code for the knock sensor. Looked at that job and I can't say I'm real eager to pull the intake off. On the fence about doing it myself or taking it to a shop. Anyway, don't listen to everybody coming down on it. That car can go a long time with proper maintenance.
This is true lol. From what I read, the Lexus techs won't be able to narrow it down at $150/hr. So I'd almost rather do it myself and film it for everyone.
This is what you need to do , remove all your injectors and have them professionally cleaned , then you have to place new plastic seals on all the high pressure injectors , this will fix the issues , with your miles this definitely something that needs to be done asap
My IS350 was doing the same thing but I was getting a misfire on cylinder 1. I did the same as you but I added Lucas complete tune-up fuel injector n drove it until the gas light came on replace all my spark plugs... She been running find.. don't know if that my help out.
direct. injection is a problem becasuse clogs :/. I had a is250 with similar issue,250k i also i had a GS350 with no issues. :) 170k . good luck hope you get it worked out!
I had this same issue on my is350 and it was a clogged catalytic converter. Only happy under WOT and would cause misfires. I was thinking it was fuel related the entire time but wasnt. Hopefully its an easy fix for you
I would try a very strong fuel injector additive I know amsoil and royal purple have strong fuel injector additives see if it helps it before spending big.
Had the same issue. Not only did i had to replace my spark plugs, clean fuel injectors from carbon build up, i also had to reset my ecu/computer. Seem to have done the trick.
This is really why I have not bought this exact model which has been my intention for the longest time. You’re better off as I don’t have the background you have in engine mechanics. I really like this car but know that to get one these days would mean it would have tons of mileage. Good luck and hope you get that issue sorted out.
Thanks. This model can be hit or miss. All my car knowledge is just from internet research, RU-vid and some DIY stuff over the years to save money - I wish I would have learned more about engines sooner, but I'm always open to learning new stuff! So far the process has been ok and can't wait to get this back on the road.
Bro that little oil leak where the tranny meets the motor .. is causing the car to go into limp mode .. due to low oil pressure.. you have to drop the tranny and fix that seal
Do a compression check, you’re dumping a lot of money in to that vehicle where the previous owner most likely did the same he’s just not letting you know about it. That’ll at least mark off that engine is good and makes it worth it to dump money in to it
Yeah, learn from me having a dealership for 7 years. I've gone through the headaches and heartbreaks. I get lucky to just break even on these situations but typically leads to motor replacement. If I started with the compression check first, I would've been able to save a bit@@MartyMotoring
PLEEEAAASS when recording audio, please record in MONO and not stereo. i hate how your voice is bouncing around in my headphones. makes watching video so much harder when the content itself is good. also run Seafoam in the gas. while it may be a dead injector, seafoam clean out the internals of the engine. When we got my moms 09 Camry xle, we ran seafoam in the gas for a while and, the car after a couple of fill ups, ran much much better. far more responsive and MPG kicked up a little bit as well
I was at the dealer a couple months ago and asked about that very thing and to my suprise the service manager informed me it's chain driven?? I've seen some videos that claim the same year model (2014) as mine and say it's belt so I'm gonna have to do some more research. Would love to hear from anybody that knew for a fact (I.E. had had the cover off and seen it with their own eyes!).
Lol…they are a ripoff and try to avoid them. I did that in my latest video just to see what they’d say and got a $7300 quote. Bet I can do it for less then half of that
@MartyMotoring it just needs some maintenance but until it's fixed it is clapped, should not be driven until such. Just my opinion. I'm not saying I wouldn't like it to be mine!
The best first mods are the necessary ones! You got this brother. I'd recommend you bring that car to Scotty Kilmer! I'm sure he'll remember you and help you out here. Maybe vacuum leak? Have you tried ATS Carbon clean for your engine oil? That'd be a more direct approach instead of fuel tank. Hope this all helps! Hoping to see you ripping the streets in PA soon!
I only know him through emails for when I was featured back then, but it would be great if he could fix it haha. I'm not sure where he is these days. I'm hoping to film my process of diagnosing it :) I have a crankcase cleaner to use as well!
He says avoid the LS460. He just had a video replace each of the $400 injectors! Thats each. LS460 is the one to avoid. Beautiful but has Mercedes level issues and expenses.
#1. I would never buy a luxury car with that many miles. I would put 2-300,000 miles on a Lexus but I would never buy one with that many miles. #2. I would never buy a car from NY because of snow/rust and people in NY that sell cars always seem grimy. #3. If im not mistaken, you paid for the car before you drove it. Big no no.
I've had alot of Lexus and Toyotas with high miles, so it doesn't scare me and theres always stuff to fix lol. But it definitely is alot of miles on it, but it is in great condition. I'm in Pennsylvania so we also have snow and rust issues, so I'm used to that part. Lexus actually don't rust too badly in my experience. Yes, I paid for it before driving it since it was so far away and the best deal I could find. But this channel is all about Lexus repair and mods so now I get to dive into this project 😅
Nah those things go to 500k miles easily, some with 1,000,000. It's a Sequoia with the 4.7L. Just did all the maintenance and lift/tires/wheels so it's fresh!
