my IS-F had the valley plate resealed at the dealer, and they pinched the O-RING as well. The 2nd time they did it, they pressure tested the cooling system once the valley plate was installed to ensure the O-RING wasn't pinched

I have a car (will not disclose make and model for now), not saying I know what you are going through, but in a nut shell, I had to pull the engine three times until it finally ran as it should, no more codes. And when I bought it the car had just passed inspection, seems to me the inspection was bribed in the process. Stay on course my friend! And thanks for sharing!

Great info so far but for me you just reinforced my thinking and motto that it is crucial to do a thorough check and all the due diligence when buying a vehicle.

Definitely, this was a hard thing to see has there weren’t any codes or any issues until about 2 hours into the way home from buying it private sale
@DG-hq6rc
@DG-hq6rc 13 дней назад
@@MartyMotoring but this is buying a car 101. Everyone who tries to hide codes resets the battery and then hopes that they don’t come on during the test drive. This is why I ask to check the engine codes as condition of sale. To ensure nothing is ‘not ready’.
@MartyMotoring
@MartyMotoring 13 дней назад
@@DG-hq6rc For sure - this was definitely an interesting one as everything showed as ready when scanned, and the car had definitely been driven recently. I’ve purchased 26 cars in the past and I guess at some point I am bound to have bad luck lol. The misfire only showed up above 5k rpm. I drove 5 hours to get it, and it drove home great besides the misfire that showed up. After digging in, I think it was due to driving it softly and low rpm and with 87 octane, since 91+ was very expensive there. The injectors were very dirty.

Great videos man, just one word of advice. Replace most things, ESPECIALLY if the part is cheap. (ie. Water Pipe) For the fuel injectors and the labor/time you're putting into this, I'd send those off and get those remanned/cleaned. And for the little things, deep clean everything as this will make a big difference to see what is actually leaking later on. And all of this will make the best difference for piece of mind and down the road maintainence.

I am amazed at your fortitude in working on a very complex engine. Mine is a 2010 and love it. Had the valley plate redone a few years ago and some other things but nothing like you have gone through. Thank you for making the videos and hopefully, you will be driving it a lot.

Great videos and I appreciate your knowledge and taking this on yourself. I currently own a 2017 LS460L and love it (second LS I’ve owned). Only 38000 miles on mine and only regular service by the dealership, so good to know they can go as long as yours. What I really wanted to ask was how you liked the CarPodGo display for your Apple CarPlay and how you went about mounting it? It’s a shame there’s no other real solution for this but the CarPodGo looks kinda promising. I suspect your cup holders are somewhat disabled when using it?

That waterneck o-ring likes to roll or pinch when installing. You gotta be super careful. I was going to upgrade to this car but i think i'll keep my LS430, with 260K miles it runs like new and not as complicated to fix.

Marty do you use OEM Toyota parts/gasket etc. I had issues when not using OEM parts. For the Fault Codes there are procedures for everything to find out the cause. Lexus is still a good car with that mileage its nothing.

I was really hoping the 2013+ 460s were more reliable than the previous years . Do you think you got a not well maintained model or is it generally true of 2013+ ls460s?
@odin5188
@odin5188 2 месяца назад
Probably not well maintained. As V8 go they're reliable if you service them. I have a 08 GS460 (same engine) at 81k no engine issues. I change the oil twice a year. The only thing that went was the radiator. Just do the maintenance when you get it spark plugs coolant and oil and you should be fine. It's the suspension parts that are expensive on an LS. That's why I went with the GS

The LS 460 is a nice drive but has inherent problems. The same cannot be said for a LS 600H which has good feedback and that 5 litre engine is far more reliable.

@@MartyMotoring It could be that the 600h is assisted by the battery hybrid system leading to less operational stress for the engine. For a non-mechanic I commend you doing the work yourself.

From what I am hearing is all 2013+ LS460 have these engine issues. Stay far away from the LS460. Has nothing to do with the mileage of this car or how well it was or not kept. Go watch the 'Car Care Nut' who is a mechanic with 1 million subs and talks about these LS460's.

Scary because I own a 14 with 105k , do recommend a coolent flush? To avoid these issues? Dealer is recommending it..
@MartyMotoring
@MartyMotoring 2 месяца назад
It’s always a good idea to do a coolant flush but unfortunately it won’t avoid any valley plate leak. The gasket maker sealant just starts to break down over time which is why that happens

@@MartyMotoring TY for replying. Do you recommend having the gasket maker sealant replace while they are doing the coolant flush?
@GfrmdaBrnx

The injectors have a plastic covering which are known to crack. The injector seals go bad too. Once these cars have over 100,00 miles problems pile up
