I love books with well written character relations. My favorite new discovery in the found family trope is The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates. It's a story about the Underground Railroad, but with some magic. A lot of the story was about characters finding new family belonging and doing everything they can to stay or get back together. My favorite work with found family trope is "Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun", a manga where MC gets sold to a demon by his horrible parents. The demon takes the boy to the demon world... and adopts him. Because he wants a grandkid to dot on XD It's an absurd world, not unlike One Piece, but with a specific Halloween-ish vibe, like Tim Burton's works. The boy makes friends with demons, faces challenges, both serious and not, but always hilarious, and grows to love this strange, absurd world.

Glad to see we have similar tastes. Found family has to be my number 1 favorite trope, though most of my favorite found family stories are from TV shows and not books, unfortunately. One book series I WOULD recommend though is the Underrealm series by Garret Robinson. The Nightblade Epic (and it's spinoffs, The Academy Journals & Tales of The Wanderer) is chock-full if found family goodness. I feel like if you like Lord of the Rings you'll like Nightblade. Or, if your more of a Harry Potter fan, The Academy Journals. P.S. the first book in the series can be downloaded from his website for free, so uh, while it looks like Merphy may be more into physical books (judging from the bookshelf) if anyone else in the comments is interested.... now you know.

I just finished the Lies of Locke Lamora. It was better than I thought. I wasn't too into it in the first few chapters. Glad I stuck with it.

First time I actually stopped reading just a few chapters in. It just wasn't working for me for some reason. About a year later I came back to it and it finally clicked. Love the whole series now.

Uf, If you want to vibe with brotherly love, you should read Full Metal Alchemist manga ♥️ it gets me every time!

Howl's moving castle is great. Miyazaki actually rushed the story and changed the ending.

I can't quite explain why without spoilers for 3 different books that...maybe one day Merphy will read (I hold a vain hope still lol)...but pretty much Martin's entire arc in Redwall (Martin the Warrior, Mossflower, Legend of Luke). Although boy does it have some depressing moments

You should read Riyria revelation I really think you'll enjoy Royce & Hadrian relationship, also Aran and Cade from The Ember Blade?

Have you seen the One Piece Japanese cast cover of "Family"? You can find it on RU-vid, it's a wonderful to see their bond as characters and actors. Honestly though, whenever I see the trope (even outside of One Piece) I find myself thinking back to you and your constant gushing for this trope haha
