Beautiful Garnet..! I always enjoy your Garnet video it is great study for me, I heard that there is several colors of Garnet but red one looks really attractive.
@@RagnarRocks We do get larger gem grade pieces but only in gneiss it seems. Its all about finding that sweet spot where they got just enough heat in the right conditions🙂
seriously buddy, love your channel. Great finds out there and seems peaceful. Just wanted to let ya know I am putting that box together for ya, Ive been super busy with the MBA program and havnt had time to do much of anything but I will send the box off to ya early next week. Look forward to chatting with you soon man and stay warm/dry ^^
Thanks!! I just sent a bubble packet with rocks, hopefully it gets there okay!! I wrapped them up pretty well. If not I can always send another haha. There's honestly no rush either, I was mostly just curious to see how the shipping works🙂
Dang, those pieces starting at 19:30 make me wanna see the big ones! I don't know much about garnet environments, but that seam/vein with the extra-coarse mica was definitely the right spot to look, and something I'll pay attention to next time I'm looking for them! Very nice video!
For sure!! They always have the best luster in that loose mica, If there's quartz or sillimanite mixed in or if it gets too hot they generally don't get a great luster in my experience
For sure!! It proves that there are good garnets to be found around here, now just to find that layer that got enough heat to produce some nice big gemmy ones, haha😃
It is so much nicer collecting when the host rock co-operates. Such a nice spot to chill, I love the ferns. Looks like you got some quality garnets bro! I think they have super nice colour and luster.
@@diggingappalachia954 They are pretty nice!! It doesn't seem like all that big of a deposit though. I think I'll keep on searching around there in the summer to see if there are any bigger schist outcroppings🙂
Sounds like a good time,.... I found some stuff in North Carolina last summer that I want to go explore a little more... it’s crazy how similar the stuff over here is
I've heard of people doing that!! I like to keep some in the matrix to make a good specimen but if I ever want to pull some out for jewelry I'll definitely try it😃
it does seem like contact metamorphism but there wasn't any metasomatism as it didn't contact any carbonates. I think the quartz just put a little extra heat and pressure on the phyllite and metamorphosed the phyllite into a schist. I may be wrong but the only place where the schist seems to be is right next to these quartz veins so that's the best I could come up with. There are lots of skarns around but they contain a different type of garnet🙂
@@NWRockExplorer Around here when I see qz in the metamorphics, it's usually migmatite, so that's where my experience leads me, but you wouldn't get migmatite at a boundary between phylite and schist, as you have there (and captured very well in that one boulder picture!). Your rocks are foreign to me! But I sure liked seeing those garnets!
I would really like to explore more skarns in the future though, they seem to hold quite a variety of garnets and lots of other minerals too. I just haven't been lucky enough to find one that contains any great crystals😄
