I've still got one like this from the 1972 miners' strikes & electricity cuts. And having just checked it, the gas cylinder from the time still works! But it does need a new mantle, so your video should prove v.useful when we get more electricity cuts this Winter😳
Hi mate, these were always a good standby , for camping or when the power goes out, the white bit that glows is called a mantle, and once you light it up from new it then becomes very fragile , so don't touch it, or knock the lamp, a good tip to know is if it develops a hole ,replace it as the light given off won't be as good, also you stand a chance of the heat coming through the hole breaking the glass, other than that both light and stove are very reliable, enjoy your find, best wishe's.
Thank-you. The trick, apparently is to unscrew the top a little, then put the canister and bottom retaining ring in and, then, tighten down the top so that the bayonet pierces the canister and the rubber cap makes a seal. Well done!
Good video still got one of these up in my attic, great for light and warmth when camping. I dont use now as i camp on a motorcycle and space is an issue. The mantles and glass can be fragile
I just bought one and it's great. I wish I knew how old it is. Judging from the box I would say 80' ? Yes the mantle or gauze is very fragile I love how you dont need a match to lit one it has this sparkle thing incorporated on a side. Lovely gem for camping cant wait to use it. I've got similar gas stove both work like a dream.it might come in handy this winter with the war in Ukraine causing havoc. Good video. Thx.
I just found my old Lumogaz T 206 today. I bought it in 1985 and last used it in 1986! Just ordered some gas canisters. As you say, it may come in handy!
Your new camera works fine. That is a really old school propane lantern. Most now days have a small rubber valve in the top of the tank where they can be removed without losing gas. The newer ones use a mantle that is a bit easier to install. They hang under the outlet and have only one tie at the top. Great find. Just make certain when you use it in a tight space you do not asphyxiate yourself.
Hello, It to Sad that you can not find replace gas canister or and adapter to connect new treaded canisters. I have a stove and a lantern here in the USA.
I bought one of these from a car boot last year and it came with a really old spare gas bottle with a price label of 89p! Lol what year was that I wonder??
