I have a gaming friend that went all in. It is incredibly overproduced. And yet! It would be so clunky if it was cardboard like Barenpark. Played at 3 players and 5 players with monuments. 3 player was first game for everyone. 5 player game was three new, two returning. It’s a super solid game. 5 players took a bit over two hours. Ended in a TIE!!! And I lost the tie breaker. Extremely satisfying. I may want to get a copy.

Just played it tonight at 3P w/ Monuments. Wildly overproduced for such a simple game but it was really fun and played super fast. It felt very satisfying to see our little vision of Rome laid out on the table when we were done.

Man, I’m super excited for this. I ordered mine and cannot wait! Ridiculous deluxe components, easy to table and entry level makes it so valuable to get new players into the hobby! An absolute essential game to expand your game group!

Good thing there are pictures of the building trays with buildings in the rule book to help out orienting everything. But I'm printing a top down picture of the monuments tray, cutting that up and adding a picture of each building in the tray.

Just put the miniatures upside down in the tray cap first, then apply the tray. Problem solved.

Its a good game, easy setup and take down, table presence is excellent 😀. Starting to see some painted versions now and they look stunning.

The issue when putting it away is that if starting with the tray, you do not know if the tray cap will match the buildings' orientation. Solution: start with the tray cap. Put the minis upside down in the tray cap, then apply the tray on top. Go top to bottom. This game's tray+cap system is basically just your regular gamebox tray for minis, but it is the top which is formed, not the bottom, like in the majority of other games. 😉

Just got my copy today! So excited to table it. It's so we'll produced and beautiful, so glad I backed it! Especially with the sundrop *chefs kiss* I've only played it on TTS without the monuments expansion and still enjoyed it so super pumped to add it in.

I've examined the buildings from a standard copy (a demo copy) versus a copy with the Sundrop wash (my personal copy) and the standard copy's buildings look like reproductions of buildings made of white chocolate. The detail is still there but it doesn't say "I might be chiseled out of stone" the way the Sundrop edition's buildings do.

Got this about a month ago here in the UK. Played the basic game with my wife, which we both enjoyed, and since then, have added Monuments, then added the Objectives and Invocations expansions to successive games. Played it 5 times (both work full time, and have a family to cope with, so not bad!), and it is already a firm favourite - now it is rivalling Wingspan and Parks for my wife's all-time favourite. If you can get a copy, I suggest you do so. :)

Packing away is an extra polyomino game in itself! If you win, you get to play another day. If you lose, you break a mini. This overproduced game keeps on giving 😄

I mis labeled one of my buildings when I pushing those in. I basically had to use a pair of pliers to pull it out to fix. The sad thing is now that one label has a plier mark in the side

My only complaint was the toppers for the monuments tray. You have to have the monuments the right direction and the top in a certain orientation or it won't fit.

My first play was with a 6 year old and no monuments. I had never tried the TTS version and we wanted it as simple as possible while figuring it out. I’d always use monuments and maybe even powers going forward, but even the way we played was a hit.

I just came from the dice tower shipping discussion video and they talked about this game 😄 I don't know if this will ever get remade, bit it's quite cool that it got produced in the first place!! For metal coins, you can do a varnish/wash and they should look better. For those interested in The Return to the Dark Tower, the excess expansions are up on Restoration Games website as of today. The miniatures expansion (Dark Horde) is great value for good D&D minis. (~$1.20 per mini) Not as good quality as games workshop, but better than Awaken Realms.

The only reason I won’t swap out the ‘too shiny coins’ is they fit perfectly in the organizer. The game is incredibly good, i late backed right before it closed after passing twice, and I’m so glad I did. My only frustration is one (that I’ve found so far) of the monuments is incorrectly colored

It came out just about exactly how I was hoping! It’s a game I can play with my friends by mixing in the modules (mainly player powers + trading and of course monuments) and I can also play with my younger son (currently 5) lol though he does get tripped up with the upgrading and civic buildings. Production is probably the best I’ve seen in any game so far with the box insert and how it works being part of that. Set up and tear down are amazingly fast for a game with this kind of production. The coins and trading and stealing tokens were the only real weak points. Still fine for the game though. Already a part of my permanent collection! Hope you enjoy with your friends and especially family!

Would you recommend teaching all the modules in the first game? (Assuming everybody is a mid weight gamer). What's wrong with the coins? Not enough?

@@PablowingUrMind you could definitely teach all the modules in the first game as they integrate pretty seamlessly and don’t add much complexity. Even with all of them I’d still consider it on the lighter side for sure. That said I would recommend trying it out with the module combination I mentioned above and then try another game with the invocation cards mixed in to see how your group likes them. I’m currently a little mixed on those. Definitely some pros and cons. One of the cool things they’ve done with the modules is all the flexibility they have to integrate with each other. It should allow different types of groups to find a great mix that works for them. As for the coins there’s enough, and if you run out of coins to take that’s done purposefully as well. It would stop the group from taking income actions and forcing play to continue. lol though that’s not likely to be common but it can happen. It’s just the quality is a bit lacking just like Alex mentioned. The 3 value coins are way too shiny and both lack a bit of look and feel that higher quality game coins have. I’m also a coin collector so it’s something I pay extra attention too. That said they work perfectly fine and are much better than just using cardboard 😁

@@numishunterv9015 got it. Thanks for the info. It's either this or Pan Am tomorrow so I'll see what the group ends up wanting to learn and play. You probably have perused already, but just in case, Etsy has some nice Roman coin sets. We already dropped $200+ on this lol, so hopefully the coins dont bother me too much cuz I typically upgrade currency.

@@PablowingUrMind welcome! I forgot to mention the objectives module! I would definitely include this one. I’ve only tried the hidden objective variant but I can see the open objectives being much better. It can make the game much more strategic/competitive because they would be a significant source of points. The only downside is that it can make the spread of points much wider when playing with someone that knows what they’re doing. Which is why I’ll likely continue to go with the hidden objective variant but only time will tell.

What, I thought your friend was prepaying early for them to be delivered the next night? So that’s like getting the monuments and not playing with them. They do add the most to setup time and increase the sprawl on the table. You’re also looking at your own board more and it can be difficult reaching over to look at the monuments, so you tend to overlook and forget about them with all the other things you’re trying to do. The monuments double-down on the over-production.

So i just got my All-in copy today, when sorting the color tiles, i found that a some of them don't fit the buildings - have you had the same issue and what is the solution? considering going in with a scalpel to try to widened the hole, but semi afraid that ill make the hole to big

This was one of the first crowdfunding projects I backed. Then I backed out because I wasn't sure whether it would be a good game and for that price, I wanted to be sure :) Kind of regret it now!

Fantastic game that’s definitely made better by the overproduction. Quickly shot up to be one of my wife’s favourite games. Just a shame it’s almost impossible to transport.

@@gmrichert yeah I suspect that is because of the great increase in shipping cost. The KS was before the supply chain mess so I suspect that their margins went to almost nothing on the KS pledges.

Objection ;) "the most premium polyomino game you can get" -> You have to look at "Big City: 20th Anniversary Jumbo Edition!", which is in my point of view another beauty and also well designed. "Big City: 20th Anniversary Jumbo Edition" is the better game for me but that`s a matter of taste.
