Yes! His comment caught my attention as well. I am curious if people tried it without priming and like he said just do it fast and wipe it with a piece of cloth afterwards. Priming alone would take a good amount of time.

@@salsabuster Definitely. I used Mr. Metal Clear Primer to prime, took me at least 4-5 days.

We've kind of been keeping our collection more in line with your initial thought of having a tighter collection of really special games showcasing various different mechanics and gameplay rather than just having a million different options. However, we're finding it difficult to fill in every niche that we want in our collection without it getting too big!

@@twoflower9239 Right with you. I used to have many cheaper good games. Nothing wrong with that, but then they collect dust. I only want 20 games that are my favs and are the best they can do.

@@twoflower9239 We stuck to games showcasing specific mechanics and wound up with 600 games. Although there are three mechanics we love that we have many repeats of which is racing, trick taking, and push your luck.

If you *really enjoy* casual games, Foundations of Rome is an absolute must-own. It isn't remotely deep enough to justify it for a more hardcore gaming audience, but you're probably never going to find a more impressive casual-to-mid-level game of the type. The closest you'll get is maybe the Castles of Mad King Ludwig Colossal Edition, but that's not really even close.

@@RvLeshrac I dont think it is too casual though. It does take a couple of games for casual players to catch up on strategy. But once everyone fully understands the game can be quite cut throat and you need to adjust to hate buys and adjacent civic buildings.

I wasnt able to get the Sundrop and have been wanting to do this but afraid to try yet. I have the Nuln Oil. Has anyone tried it yet and if so maybe provide some tips or even a video to do it?

Usually with games of this production are typically complex and rarely see the table. This game you can play with anyone and easy set up so it will see the table alot more.

Yes, yes it should. There are tons of games at low price without overproduction and insane presence on the table. And there should be at least some games that have excessive presence and insane production for those who want it. Foundations of Rome would've been lost in the sea of polymino games, at the level of Paris, MyCity etc. It would still be ok, but it wouldn't have its interesting quirk. It wouldn't stand out at, while being a very good game. Would Azul be as popular if it had cardboard tiles? Probably no. Would Blood rage be as popular if it had wooden cubes instead of miniatures? Probably no. Would they still be great games? Sure. Production and eye appeal matters a lot. There are ribs of games, why pay ugly ones? Should all games be $200 30x30x30 boxes? Of course, not. But there should be at least a couple off those.

@@Warchoon if it would have been lost in a sea of other tile laying games - but for a $100+ production - it either isn't a good enough game or there are too many tile laying games and Edison should have done something new. My understanding though is that this is actually a GREAT GAME which could have stood on its own merits! It could have been $50 and still have had ammmaaazing production for this type of game (fyi, Azul is $35, Bloodrage $75). I'm not naive enough to think that people don't like pretty, shiney things, but if the only way to make a viable product is to wrap it in gold, maybe the product isn't good enough in the first place. I have a bridge to sell you, it's very good looking.

@@simonadams do you have real life friends? A genuine question because my friends like to drink pretty hard. These are not the board gaming types of people. If I want to get my friends into playing games like this with some slight strategy and it looks visually appealing, then they are more than likely to play it. Not saying this is the game you should get because I’m sure there are a lot of games that can satisfy those requirements. I’m a working adult, I have friends with low and high attention spans and I like having something that can visually appeal to them, keep them interested and we can still interact with each other. If you’re an adult and you feel like spoiling yourself go for it. If you’re getting this for a 7 year old(I wouldn’t) or you can’t afford it, it’s ok there are other better games at affordable prices just avoid kickstarter games. Like other people have mentioned, no one is making you buy this game and this is one of few games with high price points

They are making a more “entry level” price point version. a diff name but same gameplay

So funny thing about this - I remember playing this game years ago, and I bought a $290 sundrop copy when the 2nd printing/expansion came around. I put it on the table today and everyone I played with (ransoms) all remembered the game. So - maybe people might forget it 10 years from now, but they still remember in the 2-3 year range.

@@Anim3Gamer I am talking about the broader hobby. Already absolutely zero coverage or mentions in any lists. It is nobody's favorite game and certainly will not stand the test of time

That's the point of FoR. The game is a decent polyomino with over the top miniatures and table presence. I don't have a single polyomino game in my collection, so I decided to get this one simply for the bling.
