Thanks, Neill! What you describe likely separates the average from the best. I have a hard time even finding a fitter that can even do an average fit. Most are stuck in the past and force long cranks, ball on foot cleat position, ect. I can do better fit than most fitters in Boston, USA by using your videos plus listening to my body. I may be forced to just switch back to my flat pedals as then some of the foot issues are taken out of the equation. What you describe in analyzing the feet is not something I can do and likely requires a personal visit to you. If I am ever in Australia, I am paying you a visit.

its true. when you have a money back guarantee it forces you to be a better craftsman. but at the same time it also attracts genuine customer. it also allows you to fire a client and not take the money comfortably.

So many fitters do do those 4 key tips!! How can fitter get better with more training and with integrated cockpit
@edsassler
@edsassler 2 года назад
The rider interview and off-bike assessment have been big selling points on many of the “system” fittings - I know you spend a lot of time getting to understand the riders body before they get on the bike (because that’s your background). My first experience with that was at Retul academy (that’s what they call their fitting school) was they did the interview and assessment, learned that I have had some pretty serious back injuries, and based my entire fitting on that. When they were done, the position was unridable - these are the instructors doing the fitting! I see other fitters at my shop do the same thing, it’s painful to watch. My takeaway from this is that riding and walking are very different skill sets, how the rider supports themselves on the bike and turns the pedals can’t be overlooked. I always find myself doing off-bike assessments when I find there is something in the pedal stroke that shouldn’t be there. I also find that learned habits don’t often show up in the assessment, but they do when the pedals start turning... I do wish my shop would allow a money back guarantee. Much like seeing a doctor, there’s an assumption made that it probably won’t work, which is why fitters get so little feedback. I come from a coaching background, I’ve always loved having constant contact and feedback with my riders. What I’ve learned is that looking at someone on a trainer isn’t the whole story, and I’ll probably get a lot wrong on the first fitting. That’s my top reason for not offering long, expensive fittings - too much of a show for me.

Wish Neil was in the northeast USA, I did a bike fit at a supposedly reparable place "Fit Werx Peobody, MA" a Christmas gift from my wife that cost her a total of $350.00... I still linger with the same problems, and when I reached out to them to get a refit, get this they told me it cost another $50/hour to dial it in. Shit if i remember correctly I was in and out in about 45min...wish they had a money-back guarantee...

Cyclists nodules ... They can be extremely painful and annoying ... Whenever I bring my training volume up to 15h+ per week a small cluster of nodules starts to form to the left of my perineum. Would you have a bike fitter have a look at my position on my bike or are there other things could have overlooked next to the obvious ones such as saddle, shape of shammy, ...?? I'd be extremely happy about some solid advice as I've not been able to figure this out for years and it's basically what limits my training hours on the bike 😥

Another great video gents. Like Cam, I have a 6mm shim under one of my cleats, but find there is a lot of lateral rocking on the pedal (Speedplay). I’ve checked the baseplate is flat, but still can’t resolve the issue. This creates a large amount of instability on that pedal, and I wondered if Neill has seen this, and how I might correct it? I've been consulting with a chiropractor and there is a leg discrepancy I've been working with adjustments and pilates practice to keep this adjustments. My question to Neil is: Is this shim correction method "strengthening" some of muscle weakness that might should be worked as it's compensating for that? Just had my first fit. 3 score and two years old. 73" with 34" inseam. Fitment experience was "okay". I'm satisfied that the seat is in the right position and my position on the aerobars is good. Fitter did a cursory flexibility test that took 30 seconds. I don't have any impingements and am fairly flexible for an oldie so I suppose that's why it was quick. Fitter relied on the retul data. "Guarantee" wasn't stated but I get a 1 year follow-up and if I have any issues I can return, so I suppose that's as good as a guarantee. He installed a thin shim under each cleat due to pronation. No assessment of crank length or my foot position otherwise. I've slammed my cleats all the way back to move my foot forward so he didn't change that. My only complaint is that he slid the seat fwd on the rails rather than move it on the seat post. I had to measure seat position, move the seat on the post then center the rails myself. Overall I'm glad I did it, but I don't feel I had a "stanbury" experience. That's not surprising since he never heard of you... or Burt or has seen Bike Fit Tuesdays or any other youtube vid on fitting. I asked him that up front and was nonplussed when he said that. I mean, I'm a newbie and I've watched hundreds of fitting videos by everybody with a british, aussie or kiwi accent. Keep up the good work Neill.

At my last fit (for a custom frame), I walked in and the fitter says "oh you have a compression"... i.e. I lean to one side (compression of torso between ribs and pelvis)... I knew I was onto a winner there and then. We also dropped my saddle by about 2.5cm as he identified I'm very inflexible at my hips. Both things were not picked up by a fit I had previously for another bike.

1) Plumb bob out, then run, 2) If they look at the "system" (cough, retul, cough) numbers and don't listen to you, then run 3) If they refer to anything they are doing as "what the pros do" for justification, then run.

@@peteyuckly4628 Sure, for context I am a tall 196cm average weight mid 90k kgs. But I have had 2 different retul fits and they set my saddle too high.
