Sorry for the late release! Rex hit the wrong button... Shut up and drink some whiskey. Daniel and Rex taste and review the Four Roses Small Batch Select. Thanks to Harry Falkenburg for the bottle!
I am just joined the Tribe and during this time I after draining my last of Buffalo Trace I went to try Four Roses since you have reviewed it several times and seems to be a favorite. They only one they had as the Small Batch Select and it is great but it does have a heat and spice to it I was not expecting. Being able to see and hear the flavors you taste helps me experience them as well and put a name to the flavors which is so helpful. I am happy I chanced upon your channels.
A couple weeks ago I had a really nice gift given to me by Fiancee it was Wild Turkey's Rare Breed Bourbon 58.4% and I have to say it was one the best Bourbons I've had the pleasure of tasting, very smooth for high proof bourbon and it had a very clear and distinguishable caramel sweet note along with brown sugar finish, very aromatic and flavorful and very simple cherry note on the pallet..I've been expanding my pallet with whiskeys and I'm very very fond of the Bourbons and it's thanks to this channel, thanks guys
Just opened a bottle of this today. Nice vanilla with some spice and, as rex described it, "jammy" note. I'll probably buy this as a yearly release. Which from my understanding, is the case. Very much enjoy this. Single barrel is one of my favorite go-to's.
I'm disappointed there was no mention of the non-chill filtered label on the neck of the bottle. That's where the heavy mouth feel is coming from Rex was talking about. Also, this is probably why a little bit of water causes a big reaction and change in flavor.
Just picked one of these up today. My first liqour purchase, and I'd say I'm pretty happy with it lol. Not an easy sipper, but it's still satisfying. A glass or two and I'm set 👌
Four Roses has become one of the go to bottles I buy once their Single Barrel release shows up, glad to see you guys review the small batch as it is one I hope to keep in my collection for whiskey science reasons. *I might drink with whiskey ghosts too*
Yep, only bourbon. Was there a few years ago. When they were owned by Seagrams they made lower end whiskey but even then I think it was only whiskey, mostly destined for export, a lot to Japan. Four Roses was not very good back in the 80’s and 90’s. Always have it in house now.
I really enjoyed this release. Most of the special release small batches in October are 55% or less. Every once in a while you get a 60% single barrel but usually in the OB recipes.
Mrs just got me a bottle for V day & an eagle rare. Never been a roses fan for the high rye, but this on a large rock is absolutely delicious!!! Candied cherry front note with vanilla and dark brown sugar, then heavy tannins that leaves your pallet feeling like it’s coated with velvet. I like it!!! The proof doesn’t affect its sip ability the least way and it really transitions from heavy tannins back to a sweet bourbon!
I toured the distillery several years back and bought a small batch bottle. It tasted the best of all the ones we tasted. I know nothing about bourbon. Always drank Jack or Maker's Mark but liked the Four Roses. Years ago, Knob Creek borrowed me for several hours as a one man focus group and paid me $200. It was fun. Jeez, that is quite a selection of spirits in the background.
All the regular single barrels are OBSV mashbill, unless it's a private selection/barrel pick, then you can get one of the other 9 mashbills. The private selections are also barrel proof, which is a bonus. I am always on the lookout for them when traveling.
I’m in Kentucky right now and gonna do Makers mark, four roses, and Woodford reserve tours tomorrow! Gonna get my Kentucky slam dunk Makers Mark bottle!!
I've been going through a rough time at work lately, and I'm not ashamed to admit that when I come home stressed at the end of the day, I'll pour a dram and cue Vault and Tribe videos. It doesn't make up for the work stuff, but it brings me back to reality, and for that, thank you. Will have to make the trip to Austin to donate some bottles and raise a glass to you two one of these days in the near future.
@@tombryan1 very well aware of the risks of drinking after bad days. I don't ever have alcohol on more days in a week than not, and never more than one drink on weeknights. Drinking to cope is never a good idea, because that slope is quite slippery.
Hang in there. Work can definitely drain you. Even if you are having a great day at work and thr tiniest thing can turn it into a bad one same goes for a work week. And don't worry for coming out with your feelings. I always ask my spouse when ever they get home and if they have a bad one I want to hear about it and then when they say everything that went wrong they feel better. Again no worries let it out man do what you have to do to release stress. 🍻
This new 4 Roses Small Batch Select is non-chill filtered. I wish more Bourbons did this. It's coming around, though. Bottle it at high proof, drink it neat, and don't leave it sitting around too long and you'll never have a need for chill filtration.
I'm gonna nominate Four Roses to be in consideration for the back wall of representative whiskey. Maybe not this exact small batch select, but the widely available small batch or single barrel. I feel like it meets all the criteria for the back wall. Consult with the almighty bunghole and get back to me on this.
@@24binky The single barrel is fking delicious, one of my fav bourbons as of now. I do have an unopened bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed, that might make it run for its money
Brother in law Spends big money on Tequila and somehow made him realize Whiskey is where its at. He bought this and made my night. Such a fabulous drink. Over ice this is dangerous. Much love.
I watch this channel for entertainment, since I’m not into whiskey... I’ve tried Japanese, but i need to try a bourbon. I’m really into tequila and wish there was a channel like y’all for tequila. 😩
Love small batch and small batch select my two fav whiskeys rite now haven’t tried a lot but I really really love these man they kick the shut out of Woodford reserve to me.
Today, I took my last part of the CPA exam. Thinking of getting a whiskey to celebrate with or drown my sorrows with pending the exam outcome. Any recommendation?
This one definitely needs some time to open up. I found the same thing, water didn’t help. After a few months open and halfway down starting to enjoy. Considering price I’d prob get their single barrel next time.
I know i had too much whiskey when i had to keep rewinding because i couldn't remember the last sentence, or maybe its my adhd but that doesn't typically affect these videos lol. Glenfiddich and Highland park magnus for me tonight. With a drew estate legend and its pairs amazingly well. Habe to try yhis four roses im a big four roses fan
Right on Time! I've been drinking scotch for a big year. And have Blanton's single barrel as the only bourbon I have around. And had not even openend it, untill today. I really liked it, and went looking at older video's of u guys to make myself a good list I wanna try as soon as possible, I so far Have Buffalo trace, The wild turkey 101 and rare breed on there.. But my question is, what else?
Hey guys, this is my favorite bourbon at the moment. Do you have any recommendations in the same price range or even a budget option with similar tasting notes and smoothness? Or even just point me in the right direction.
I've only had Four Roses cheapest offering, and I must say, it's pretty good. All their other bottles are on the list, but so are many more. Does it ever end? Does the list get shorter? Will I ever find out?
I just got to check out Seven Grand in Austin over the weekend. I was impressed but I found a place in waco that is much more low key that i like much better.
Four Roses is a brand of bourbon from the Kirin Brewery Company of Japan. So, Kirin Brewery Company may do other things but if it's called Four Roses, it is bourbon.
Not sure if it's technically Gregorian, but it's similar. Regardless, it's traditional (Catholic) cathedral music. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xRtjQbtnvxA.html
As a Kevin I am honored at the choice of name for your beloved vault ghost. However, I did feel a little aggression at the statement, "Kevins can die too!" Just a sudden and shocking reminder of my own mortality in the middle of the work day... no big deal.
Rex, Daniel, I'm trying to be a patient bastard but you STILL have not reviewed a whiskey I sent in WELL over a year ago!! To be honest I have no idea if the bottle I sent made it there, but I did see a bottle of what I sent on the shelves of the old vault in the last few videos before the move! So, if you have it around I'd love to see you get to the Infuse Spirits Broken Barrel Bourbon. If it has David Walstad written on the edge of the label, that's the one I sent!
If someone ever calls you out for wearing boots with a standard heel to "look taller" it is almost guaranteed that they are wearing a pair of sneakers that give them way more of a boost!
