Four Roses Small Batch Select Bourbon : The Mash & Drum EP63 

I don't think I've ever heard a more delicious description of a bourbon. Now I have to go straight and pour a dram of this from my bottle!! Great review Jason.

FRSBS is one of the best of all time. It has absolutely everything. It is somehow quintessential bourbon yet it has so much else in there underneath that to explore. It’s killer.

Great review as always. Four Roses Small Batch Select is one of my favorites - they hit this one way out of the ballpark. Gives me just about everything I want from a pour. This expression goes for the high $40s around L.A. It has definitely become the most reached for bottle in the cabinet. At that price, I have no guilt in doing so.

Amazing Bourbon. Like the hit of vanilla then gets spicy. Finishes nice and smooth.

Went to Party Source last weekend and picked up a few of these. Amazing bottle for 57.99. The review is spot on. Great mouth feel, chocolate on the nose. On the palate that rye spice, and classic bourbon notes. The finish is where it is at mint and oak. This is limited edition quality.

Great review Jason, lots of great info. I've been a huge scotch fan over the last few years and wasn't really big on bourbon. I had a sample of ECBP and it was fantastic. I've also bought Eagle Rare 10 and FR Single Barrel and they were so enjoyable. Bourbon has grown on me because of the info on your channel which I truly appreciate, thanks Jason and cheers to you 🥃🥃

I loved this Select! Had to hunt it down in GA to get it. the only Four Roses single barrel I tried was disappointing so I was relieved at how complex the Select tasted

Your reviews are the best imo. I told myself I was not gonna buy any new bottles I had not tried until after thanksgiving, but I passed by a store looking for some JDSBBP to restock and they were out. Ended up picking up a New Riff Balboa rye and the 4 Roses select. Both of which I have never tried. Sipping the 4R Select and have to agree that it’s fantastic. I have come to love my mix of EW BiB and OF 100 and I love that price point, but super happy I splurged on this 4 Roses. I have the single barrel but the small batch select just seems more complex and interesting.

Great review. Sounds like Four Roses is listening to what Whiskey nerds want thats encouraging. While I like the single barrel a better small batch makes a lot more sense for a distillery with 10 kinds of Whiskey laying around. Hopefully this will be widely available as the special releases were unicorns. Cheers

Been shopping for this one in Missouri for some time with no luck. Found it in a small town liquor store while visiting SE Texas last week. Wish I had picked up another bottle now. Flavor and mouth feel more complex than any other 4 Roses product I have tried.

Just tasted this on our channel! So good. We could drink Four Roses all day everyday!

Got this bottle home and was so excited to try it but i hated it at first. The nose was amazing but the palate felt bitter and astringent and just wasn’t a fan. I tried it again 2 weeks later and it was totally different, now i reach for it all the time!

Great review! Just got this a couple months ago. I absolutely love four roses bourbon. Found it for about $58. Some store said 120 when it first came out which is probably why I waited a while, but then found out they were wrong (no more visits to that store haha). Seriously though, if there is any bourbon that it is high quality and widely available to be a go to bourbon it has to be four roses. By the way, have you ever had Laws Whiskey from Denver CO? Amazing stuff as well

I've read some reviews of SBS that are kind of "meh", but this is presently my favorite bourbon! It has exactly the flavor profile I want in a bourbon, is very smooth for its high proof, and is non-chill filtered for more flavor and complexity. Delicious!

Hey Jason: Picked up a bottle of FOUR ROSES Small Batch Select a few days ago; here are my impressions: SLÁINTE Mike FOUR ROSES Small Batch Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 3/07/21 52% ABV, Non-Chillfiltered A Mixture of recipes: OBSV, OBSK, OESF, OESV, OESF This is my 3rd glass from the bottle so air has mixed with the spirit. COLOR: Mahogany with a nice ring with many legs running swiftly NOSE: Vanilla with an underpinning of wood char, a hint of mint PALATE: Very Velvety Mouthfeel, Caramel, pepper tingling as I swirl it around a hint of wood char FINISH: Creamy going down with a drying sense and light pepper on the tongue with 1 drop of spring water NOSE: a more even vanilla PALATE: Dusty Corn Sweetness, Mouthfeel remains creamy. some alcohol burn and numbness FINISH: Very Drying and puckering through out my mouth; resolving to a mouthwatering sense with sugary sweetness the vanilla reappears. With 2 drops of spring water NOSE: Light Caramel Candy with a Malty sweetness as well PALATE: Pepper spice arrival with vanilla underpinning and a sugary sweetness an faint wood char with a slight burn on my tongue; that goes away as I swirl FINISH: Mouthwatering with dryness throughout my mouth and faint pepper on my tongue. This bourbon really benefits from the Non-Chill-filtering. The whole experience is rich. The alcohol burn was light. I enjoyed the dusty corn note with one drop of water. I always enjoy corn notes and their sweetness. I enjoyed seeing the liquid cloud up after I added water. The malt sweetness from the barley is even evident. I totally enjoyed this bourbon. Every glass has been a pleasure. Recommended!

@mashanddrum I've never purchased any Four Roses. I found a shop in KY that has a Four Roses SiB store pick. Your thoughts? They also have the "Select." What should I grab? Im a big fan of oily, full-flavor, long finishing, high-proof bourbons. Thx!

I despise yellow label Four Roses, not impressed by the single barrel while the small batch is always on my bar and the small batch select is delightful. Number Two with a Bullet.

I know this is older video. But wow. The heat of the throat with this one is pretty harsh. And I like higher proof products even 120 plus proof that don't have this. Add some water or ice it's fine. Flavors all there just tames that long burn. Maybe bad batch I got

Slightly above Single Barrel??? Four Roses has a very funny definition of slightly. By me depending on the store 4 Roses SB goes for $35 to $45. Right now Small Batch Select is going for $55 to $65. $20 isn't a slight difference to me. The Small Batch Select tastes good but I don't know if it was that much better than the 4 Roses SB. It was different though to me.

Sounds like a good one but at over $60, I'll pass for now and look at a few scotch whiskey for some new experiences. No doubt there are some bourbons at over $100 that this one beats. Cheers!

My only experience with Four Roses is an awful bottle of the Single Barrel. I even reached out to them and they replied, saying they’d be willing to replace the bottle. After another follow up and a month later, I haven’t been contacted by their local agent, so not a great experience.
