Four ways to pick up a heavy motorcycle. Guaranteed success proven by small girl

How to lift a motorcycle has always been a pretty controversial topic, especially when it comes to social media and keyboard warriors. Here are four ways to pick up a heavy motorcycle. It's a guaranteed success proven by me small girl! I’m often faced of people telling me that you can only do it back squat…. But the reality is there are multiple ways to pick up a motorcycle, all of them depend on your body, the terrain, the bike and the actual situation you’re in. And for me I have my favourite way, but I’m also very realistic in the fact that the actual situation at the time out in the wilderness also dictates, which is the best way to pick up a bike. Here in this video, I show you four different ways to pick up a big heavy adventure motorcycle. And as you know I am a small 62 kg female which means I’m not a huge strong male, there is a massive element of technique.
My recommendation is that you give all four of them a try. I suggest you practice in a safe environment so that when you’re out there in the wilderness you know what you’re doing, you’re not panicked and you know how your body is going to feel in the best situation.
Let me know which method you’d prefer.

Picking it up once’s is enough but four times, now that’s a full work out. Well done you and thanks for explaining it.

I keep a velcro strap around my front break reservoir. Quick and easy to put around the brake lever to lock the front wheel which makes lifting much easier, particularly on a slope. Also protects the plastic reservoir from getting smashed by stones/roost etc.

I commend you for being able to do that but I have chosen a much lighter bike ( CRF300L Rally ) because of my age and my bad back and knees. I also have a take apart folding jack that I have not figured out yet where I will carry it on the bike. It is called the Dirt Napper. I have to agree that is much easer to go ridding with friends that can help you pick the bike back up. But I like ridding alone and partly because it is not always possible for my friends to come along when I am free to ride. Thanks Venessa for the good advice.

Excellent video thanks 🙏 I learnt to pick up bikes with a big Harley and the back squat worked easily for me. However since I have gone through the menopause I find the deep squat quite difficult on my knees so I prefer the front squat now. I am lucky that I tend to be riding with my hubby so I usually have help 🤩 xx

Four times picking up in a row, no wonder you're puffed😜💪I dropped my GL1100 for the first time whilst making a u-turn on a slope tarmac road. (normally no problem but I forgot the weight of the fully loaded trunks, turned to slow and there he lays down) Luckily within a few seconds a number of cars stopped and people got out to help me get up and helped to lift up my bike. I was super glad they helped because I overstretched a leg muscle and wasn't able at that time to pick up my 420 kg bike. Little damage to the bike but no problem to continue my first solo ride vacation. Haven't practiced later on to pick up my bike. Hopefully there are some kind people around next time. If not I now know a few ways to try it myself. Thnx👊😎

Thank you for this video. I recently got the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 650 as my first bike as a 5’1 rider. I do well maneuvering and riding the bike overall, however when it does fall-well…. I have to have my husband help me get it back up… Once I get my sliders on (dealership had to order them) I plan on practicing trying to get it up on my own… 😮‍💨

Fifth way: only ever dropped bikes (or been hit by cars) on roads. Men appear from cars, shops etc and pick it up before I’ve had a chance to practice any alternative methods. I’m very grateful mind😊

You missed out step one, which varies depending on how many times you've picked it up that day. It's a sliding scale between early in the day: shrugging and laughing, middle of the day: protracted sighing and end of the day: shouting, "Faaaaaaaackin 'ell, AGAIN?!" 😅 Very useful vid. 😎👍

A couple of years ago I dropped my V-Strom 1000 into the fork of a tree that was next to the trail. The tree went right between the handlebars and the windshield and it was WEDGED. After a couple of hours of heaving and jacking attempts, I went back to my barn and got the chainsaw. That tree won't be molesting ME again!

One thing that can help is if you get something to hold the front brake lever so the front brake is on, like a bandana or some rubber bands. Anything you can tie round it to hold the brake lever pulled.

Not sure I have a favorite way but something to think about when your loading your bike up with gear for a trip is try to make sure you pack it so that you can still get a hold of something solid to lift. grab bars racks etc tend to get covered up when your loading up your camping gear. learned that the hard way when I had to pick up my bike and there was nothing to get a good hold on to lift it

Lol 🩷 when i first got my bike i could only get the bike back up using the 4th way. Its still hard so once my hand finishes healing im gon lay down sum tires so it dont break a lever and practice daily till i can do it confidently. If i gotta lift it i figure im gon b hurtin a bit cuz i likely went down which i found out 0% chance im able to lift it alone after I go down on dirt currently i imagine I'll be even more sore if its on concrete

All is good except the 3rd way, which is a very high risk maneuver, considering that anyone with unknown weak spinal arrangement, slip disc or otherwise, can end up hurting themselves. I am sorry, but as much as it is about pressure on the thighs, it is also about the pressure on the lower part of the spine.

Take the bike 90% of the way up the slope behind you, stall, fall sideways with your leg underneath, get out, stand the bike up. THEN drop it again sideways down the slope so that you roll off and the bike is parallel to the slope - seat down wheels uphill. How do you fix that alone and with difficult foot traction?
@BikesBuiltBetterHorsham
@BikesBuiltBetterHorsham 3 месяца назад
I believe the "official" method is to grab some part of the bike and rotate it 180 degrees (ouch, I can hear rocks grinding my bodywork even now) until the wheels are downhill and the seat & handlebars are uphill. Then proceed with the lifting method of your choice. Or just point it downhill, heave it up and let 'er rip...(well, maybe not...;)

It can be quite a challenge but yes dragging the bike around into a better position is what is advised, although it can be a little painful to see the paint or plastics being scratched up in the process
