I save all the peels, dunk them in lemon water and dehydrate. When dried I grind in the food processor and make what my kiddos call "apple pip". Its a spice we add when making our stove top oatmeal. It's delicious. Also the cores can be used to make Apple Cider Vinegar. No waste!

Sometimes they all made it and sometimes we lost some. I LOVE having a pressure canner and pressure cooking. Lots is lost today on not teaching life skills! Cooking, preserving, mending and sewing.

Save your peelings, boil and make jelly use the cores to make apple cider vinegar. You can also ferment some of your apples that are uncooked and mashed into wine then into a nice apple wine vinegar for cooking with. Check with the person you got the apples from to see whether it’s a very old variety that you can plant the seeds and grow the true apple trees. You can’t forget canned apple pie filling and dehydrated apples for dried fried apple pies and filling for the very old apple stack cakes. Not to mention dehydrated makes great snacks. For Halloween we would carve out eyes nose and mouth then let the apple shrink and dry for shrunken heads . Thought you might like a few ideas from an old timer!

In the Caribbean, where I'm originally from, mangoes are abundant, and we use them to make a delicious curried condiment called "mango chutney." Now, I live in Canada, where mangoes don't grow, but the apple tree in the yard gives a bounty of fruit. So, I dice them and make a curried condiment. "Apple chutney" is delightful: sweet, spicy, and crunchy.

I found a great deal on apples last year. I made pie filling and canned it. I made apple butter and I dehydrated apple slices. For the dehydrated apple slices I did a quick soak in pineapple juice and sprinkled them with cinnamon and sugar. Although,, I have to admit, they didn't last long. My kids devoured them. Lol. I like the convenience of the apple pie filling but since I make deep dish apple pies I have to use 2 quarts for each pie. I really hope I find a good deal on apples again this year. I haven't seen any apple orchards anywhere near me and the apple trees we have planted have never produced fruit 😩.

First of all, hello to your beautiful family. I just love watching your videos and love the way that you all work together. What you are teaching, and how you are teaching your children will make them richer in knowledge and guarantee them a much happier, healthier future. Over the years I have become more accustomed to watching RU-vid videos rather than television for the simple fact that I hate commercials, so you can imagine all the beautiful recipes I have seen and tried. I am disabled and very limited in my activities, but I do love to cook, can, and prep. I have a few suggestions for you, some of them are new, and some of them are touches on what you showed here to make the process just a little smoother. The idea I am going for is a no-waste theme. 1.) When you are making your juice, if you core the apples then you can use the pulp to dehydrate them into bits or ground into powder to add to oatmeal or other recipes. Spray with a bit of lemon juice to keep them from turning brown. 2.) By coring your apples before juicing, you can also use the pulp in muffins, cakes, or cupcakes. 3.) Use some of the peels and cores to make apple cider vinegar. 4.) Use some of the cores and peels to make "Apple Scrap Jelly," you will need to soak them in lemon juice until you have enough to use so they won't turn brown, or you can freeze them to make jelly later. 5.) Dehydrate some of the peels and ground them into a powder or crumble them into bits to use in oatmeal or other recipes. 6.) Use cores and peels to flavor alcohol such as vodka for either drinking or for medicinal recipes. 7.) Place some of your apple slices into a bowl, add sugar and cinnamon, mix together really well and then dehydrate them (or freeze-dry) for snacks, oatmeal, or to use in recipes. 8.) Use your pie pans and some parchment paper for this one... Add apple slices to a large bowl, with sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and other seasonings. Mix together really well, take two extra long pieces of parchment, lay them crosswise (+) in your pie pans. Now pile the apples high enough to make a pie. Then fold over the paper and secure into place. Freeze as is in the pan until solid. Then remove from the pan and leave in the parchment to store in a zip-lock baggy or food-saver bag. Place back into the freezer and you have a ready-formed apple pie recipe to set into your pie crusts when the time is right. 9.) Let's not forget to feed the scraps to your chickens, turkeys, and other farm animals. But also have the children use some of the apples to make treats for all of the wild birds on your property, it is always so hard for them to find food during the winter months. There are an endless amount of recipes and tips out there so I will stop here. I hope some of these tips are useful for you. Many Blessings to your whole family. God Bless ~SuzyJC-in-Pataskala-Ohio_10.29.2022~

I dehydrate the peeled, sliced, cored apples with a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar (lightly) then store the 'snacks' in jars. They go fast! I also make vinegar from the peelings and cores to use for salad dressing, cooking, AND to dump on ant beds for quick kill. I also use it for cleaning. I also use the peelings and cores in my steam cooker to make the clearest and best juice ever. This is also used to make apple pie filling and jelly..We like to fry plain canned apples in butter as a side dish, make applesauce, and plain canned apples are mixed with winter squash for a baked side, cooked with pork in the crock pot, and added to yogurt or pancakes. We make fried hand pies and other desserts from the apple pie filling or the plain canned apples. Apples with cranberries makes a great sauce for chicken. Loved watching you and your kids using up the harvest.

I tried something new this morning. I had a huge jar filled with dried apple slices that I sugared and sprinkled with cinnamon before dehydrated. The kids eat them for snacks but I saw the post made by Purposeful Pantry where she dried shreds of apples sprinkled with cinnamon and added it to oatmeal with nuts for a nice breakfast. I tried it by chopping the dried slices of apples but chopped them when making the oatmeal - it was really good. I'm going to try shreds next time I dehydrate as they may be great in muffins, quick bread, etc. Good luck!

I've made the apple part for crumble(crisp to you) in tins and popped them in the freezer, ready for the topping to be added. I saw one lady put apples in a parchment lined pie plate, freeze it then remove it from the tin and put it in a bag, so when she makes pie or crisp she can just plonk in a perfect sized apple patty. I thought that was pretty cool and you don't end end up with dishes tied up in the freezer for long periods. I used to help my nana in the kitchen and now I wait for granbabies to work by my knee, you are blessed.

At this time of year, we get alot of crababpples and so I make apple juice (100 plus jars this year) but it would work well with those apples as well. Halve or quarter 1 gallon of apples (no need to peel or core), put in container and cover with 5 quarts of boiling water. Cover. Let sit for 24 to 48 hours. Drain off juice through t-towel or fine cheese cloth into pot. Sweeten to taste and bring to boil for a couple minutes (I boil for about 5 minutes). Put in jars and seal. I don't hot water bath the jars, but I have read that some do for 15 minutes. The spent apples can then be fed to the pigs and/or chickens.

I quarter the apples and take the core out and then put them in the instant pot with a half a cup of water and cook at pressure for three minutes. After 5 minutes I release the pressure and all I have to do is grab the skins with some tongs and they come right off. The applesauce is ready, unless you like it a little sweeter, in which case add some sugar.

Am a 43 year man old and You and your Kids are very lucky to have a mom that is teaching them to do this. Your daughter is very fortunate to have you as a mom to teach her this way. I wish I had a dad that taught me something and a mom that taught me something, but I had to do it all on my own. Daughter, you are very fortunate to have a mom who loves you enough to teach you how to do things like this. Trust me when I say this. It's GOLD to know how to do things like this. Trust me. I am a man, but I wish I knew how to do things like this, but I am learning one step at a time. Oh, don't take your Mom or Dad for granted. Always Love Them, no matter what because they where there for you when you where born. The last time I heard from my dad he said to me "Don't call me, I'll call you" :(( He died back in 2017. I don't mourn for him, but just moved on.
