Fox Mustang 5.0 Trick Flow Upper Intake describing vacuum hose transfer and location

Ok at end I mention what are pipe plug fittings - TF kit comes with three; one I used in lower intake to seal hole same as stock lower; the other two are used if you are not running stock sensors on lower intake so they weren't needed here.
Also the bolt with stud is from stock upper intake on passenger side rear which secures a metal bracket which attaches to another stud on the driver side lower intake rear. That bracket doesn't seem to serve any purpose as both upper and lower intakes are bolted down anyway so I may leave it off.

I just acquired a 88 GT and had to replace a number of things in the engine compartment: motor mounts, oil pan, valve cover gaskets, etc… After removing the intake manifold to do top end work I couldn’t remember where everything went so I’ll echo the lot on here: THANK YOU!!!

After removing my intake and replacing it and misplacing a number of parts in my house move I struggled to get my vacuum back together, this has highlighted a few connections that I missed which no one could tell me about!!! Thank you for making this video it’s helped me so so much!!!

I want to say thank you. Thank you for going literally connection point to connection point. I've saved your video so while I'm out redoing my vacuum system from scratch, I'll get it correct. The pictures I took beforehand and the diagrams illustrated in the manual and in the decals don't cut it. Thank you!

Attempting the same. Anyone know what the black hose that goes under intake to vacuum block is for? The ac, egr and smog pump are not on this one. I'm wondering if that particular hose and vacuum block even serves a purpose anymore?

James D The brake booster is fed off the vacuum block.

@@jamesd2482 if you have a speed Density mustang, 87-88 (non California 88), without MAF (sensor on the air inlet tube is MAF), then one of your vacuum lines from under the intake, goes to the MAP sensor on the firewall. VERY important that the MAP is linked to the intake with Speed Density mustangs...or the car will run like absolute shit. I have a video explaining this on my channel. 89 on up the port under intake is capped (like in this video) and the MAP Sensor (called a BAP, 89-93), is left open and not vaccumed.

I used the side vacuum port to feed the brake booster and deleted the cheesy plastic vacuum tree and used the brass tree to run the FPR and MAP sensor for Megasquirt, and used a single barb for the PCV. I used hardened rubber hose for the PCV valve so it doesn't collapse. Of course I got rid of the charcoal can, smog pump and EGR like any gas-loving Foxbody guy. Standalone ECUs can't run them anyway. I personally used the threaded inserts to plug the EGR water jacket cooler toward the rear of the manifold(the one that runs to the throttle body spacer) as I had no use for hot coolant near my throttle body without hot EGR gases in it. I am running the Track Heat intake. I pretty much just hooked them up wherever I could run the shortest line. I don't currently have my blend door hooked up so I'm on defroster only, but I don't really drive the car below 35 degrees, so defroster only is enough heat on a chilly morning. Was even able to drive on warm winter days like this, in Massachusetts of all places. Basically I am another Foxbody HCI hackjob lol but I like less hose, less clutter and opportunity to lose/crack a hose. Nice to know where the stock locations are if I ever want to sell it though.

Any reason to run the pcv into the intake vs. a simple breather? Other than the possible smell of burning oil in the morning of course.

I kept the PCV system as it's not "in the way" like EGR and smog equipment is and works reasonably well. Anecdotally I have seen some older 60s engines with road draft tubes(basically breathers that run down past the bottom of the engine) that have been torn apart and are fairly gunky inside. PCV is a fairly efficient crankcase ventilation system. I did move my throttle body to valve cover vent to the fender well area, though, rather than the TB itself, since I run a Vortech supercharger and don't want boost in my crankcase, or oily blowby in the supercharger's impeller. I did also upgrade to a 95 Toyota Supra PCV valve - Purolator PV1009 - when I installed the supercharger. If the PCV setup I am running now gives me any issues I'll just run a couple of breathers, though.

The stud with two nuts goes on the rear passenger side. The stud secure the upper to lower manifolds. The first nut on the stud secure the two manifolds. The second nut on the same stud lockdown a bracket. The bracket is about five inches in length. The other end of the bracket attached the back of the engine block. Look for a vertical stud facing straight up; this where the bracket attaches to the block. This bracket 45 degree in angle. The stud on the block is also where the ground cable attaches to the engine block to the body.

I believe those 2 threaded plugs are for the heads to block the holes for the smog lines.

Great video man, there are so many intake variations for these cars and these hoses always pose a problem as to where they go plus Ford came up with so many different intakes besides the aftermarkets and the combinations can make your head spin,Ive tried in the last 28 years just about every intake on these cars and these hose locations always trip you up,lol,the 93 Cobra intake actually used a "T" on the PCV valve which i think works great for oil control but thats a story for another day.

Omg what a great video! Exactly what I was looking for! Having vacuum issues and fuel smell issues due to the fact my charcoal canister is not connected to intake. Didnt know where where they all went. Now I can check all of it. Plus missing that vacuum tree on passenger side. I have same intake with a bunch of other mods. Maybe this will help with my throttle issue or idle issue. Think my tps is bad too. Thank you for this great in depth info. Sometimes it's the small stuff that causes big problems...

Great video. Thanks. I’ve got a 95 F1 50 with a 5.0. Was wondering what you think about adding a trick flow lower intake manifold? Would I have to make a lot of other modifications to make it worth it? I’m going to be doing some pulling And hoping to find some less expensive ways to get some more power. And maybe have a little fun too.

Great Video what if you ain't running a egr just cap the white one off! It's probably to hold ur water pipe the stud with the nut on top it might be when you run the metal water pipe down the intake to hold it!

Jon Glenn I just completed mine. I measured it up a and marked it I stepped up drill bit sizes until I ran out of bits then took the dremel tool to it. I would not recommend doing it this way just go get an auger bit.

I think those little threaded plugs might go to the vacuum lines instead of plugging them off with a rubber hose what ever vacuum line that u aren't using on the bottom of the in Un screw the fitting then just plug it off! That is what I am thinking!

I u don't use the charcoal canister so what do u just cap it off?? What if u ain't using a egr valve either just cap it off or does the egr vacuum line have any to with the heater controls or dose that come from vacuum tree!! I ain't running a EGR valve or the canister!! What about that BAP sensor or Map sensor sits next to vacuum tree it has a vacuum plug on it I forget if it gets a vacuum line or not if ur car is MAF I think take the vacuum line off on a MAF car can't remember!!

Nice video.... i think the bolt with the nut is for thr coil pack bolt in front on the left side of the intake. The spacer if for the room the coil pack would fHave took up so you don't thread it in to far.. thats my guess but again sweet vid help alot
