There is a little trick a lot of people dont know when removing the lower intake,on your fuel rail by the alternator there is a bracket holding the fuel lines to the head, if you have aftermarket heads chances are that bracket is not even there anymore as the head stud in that location had a stud built into it to secure said bracket, when you use aftermarket head bolts that function is gone, (unless someone fabbed something to reattach that bracket) Once that bracket is disconnected All you have to do is pull up on your fuel rail and and go up and to the side and the entire fuel rail will move out of your way,you can almost set it on top of your radiator!! Reason it does this is because downwards from the alternator those fuel lines are flexible,remember, you can only do this if that bracket holding the rails by the alternator is gone or disconnected,why do this? so you dont have to deal with those nightmare fuel rail disconnect tools plus risking having a leak later etc,i absolutely despise those tools, half of the time they dont work, i have every variation made of them hanging on my garage wall catching dust,lol

I think the cobra intake is the coolest but a very close second would def be the gt40 tubular intake! 😉

Looks like the egr spacer gasket went on upside down the slot in the gasket was facing up and the slot on the manifold is on the bottom

GT40 tubular intake does looks a lot nicer than the lumpy Systemax II and Trick Flow intakes, even if it flows somewhat less, and they are made well. The old BBK SSI intakes are really cool looking too, but they aren't cast too well.

get you some Gojo hand cleaner, the white creamy kind, and use that for any hose you install that is a bogger. just coat the inside about an inch and the hose will pop on like jumpstreet. you can also use it when making spark plug wires. just add a little to wire before the boot and it will slide on like a slip-n-slide. it also cleans old wires, hoses, practically any part like new.. even your hands! you'll never work in a shop without it.

You should install the stock air box with a K&N filter, your sucking in all of the under hood engine heat and the Mass Air sensor is being affected by the pulsations of the fan. Also you should find the cover that went with the upper intake to finish it off.

Best looking Intake was the Richard Holdener dual plenum, dual throttle body Intake !

I know its been a while so not sure if you will see this. But did you guys make a video on how you created the ACT hole on your lower intake manifold on this build?

Hey Matt, revisiting this video. About to diagnose my car. Engine knock. I think I have a broken rocker arm or lifter. Anyway, I think its a top end thing. Do you guys use that ring light a lot? I am going to order one. My car is being moved to a storage unit and I'll need all the light I can get. lol

I know this is a old post.. but I’m currently doing this swap! Got the engine out of the car! Got the GT40 tubular intake and lower! Putting in a cam! I plan on getting the BBk70mm TB but did you stick with the 19lb injectors or go up? MAF stay the same or larger one?

Nice video Matt, I’m enjoying your journey with the tarhill car. A friend of mine just put a gt 40 intake manifold on his beautiful 1990 7up Fox, looks great. You do know you can take those gloves off once they blow out😉. ( l do the same thing , screw the gloves keep working!)

I dont think youre supposed to use the pcv screen with an explorer lower intake.

Hate to say it, but most throttle plates are horizontal, running it vertical will cause severe uneven air flow in the intake runners
