seth's shows, whether they were from his hallway, his attic with the wasps, his in-laws' house with the sea captain, or the studio, made this pandemic a little brighter for me. i'll continue watching as the audience comes back, just like i did before the pandemic, but this show was really special without an audience. seth has grown and thrived SO much as a host and gotten to do so many funny, experimental bits. i feel silly writing such a sappy comment about a late night show, but i'm really going to look back on this time for late night fondly!

What a journey it's been. He should at least keep the neat-casual wardrobe. Late night hosts in suits... it just seems unnecessarily stuffy, and sets him apart from the Kimmels and Colberts that send me to sleep.

Yeah I don’t get it. It seems like a lot of the hosts were so much more relaxed and had more fun without the audience. A few needed it - like John Oliver. But Colbert and Seth especially seemed like they were/are having fun. If an audience is really required I wish they would do a hybrid show, having one only once in awhile.

Really bummed to hear that the audience is coming back. All the mindless clapping after every punchline is sort of like the laugh track in old sitcoms, we tolerated it while it was there, but going back to it now seems dreadful.

One silver lining of the pandemic shutdown was that we learned we can do without the overactive late-night crowd that every show thinks they need to make the host appear funny. Seth is so much better without an audience. His days in the attic were great.

Arrr, says the captain :-) is he training now with easy cheap Rudi jokes for the audience to come back? i always enjoy longer explanations that go a bit more into details about lots of facets of american life and politics (greetings also to john, last night :-) and had hoped to hear similar about our current elections, the "second votes" (kind of a mostly working popular vote) that we have, and everything that is involved to find a real majority of people/votes to support a new government.

i was thinking about how all the fun and more experimental bits seth has gotten to do have been reminiscent to conan's late night run. i think the audience coming back for seth is inevitable (i'm sure it's what producers and such want) but i really hope he doesn't lose the quirky charm that's developed over this past year and a half.

Absolutely yes. It feels more authentic, and more relaxed. It seems to be easier to improvise with just a small. regular crew around. And the cameos from the kids were just perfect.

Very good point. In my opinion, Seth's sense of humor is very outrageous and at times, bizarre, which is something I love about him. He has always had to water it down in order to please the mainstream audience and producers, but ever since he began creating pandemic shows, we've gotten to see his true personality. It's far more relatable. Sigh.......

I gotta wonder how much of Rudy's imploding is due to dementia. He's about the right age and he seems totally unable to plan or organize complex tasks any more. If you compare his recent lawsuits to his work in the 1980s, you can clearly see an enormous drop in his abilities as a lawyer. Rudy should have been taken out of the spotlight and put in a nursing home ten or fifteen years ago.

No definite answer yet as to who will be the next chancellor. The center-left party won, but doesn’t have a majority even together with the pro-environment green party. Therefore, a coalition would have to include the "liberal", pro big-business FDP, which as @Axel Bauron has said above, is not good. There are some other possible combinations, all of which are even shittier. But we’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

A lot of people voted for the far-right party AfD, a lot more than who voted for the The Left Party (Die Linke). This is a major problem we have to solve or this nation will get itself fucked up once more. CDU/CSU (the party of Merkel) fearmongered about a "Linksrutsch" (some major left swing) at the election. A coalition of the more progressive and left parties SPD, Die Linke, Die Grünen (green party) seemed possible and could have transformed the nation into something genuinely fighting against climate change and economic inequality, but like Silubr said now there is the FDP instead of The Left which almost certainly will poison every plans for change because "big business and rich people something something trickle down".

Whoever will be govern next has to strengthen the progressive powers in East Germany or this will swap back into the West also. DUDE- figured there'd be at least a few comments about the audience coming back, I did not realize it would be every single comment 😁 We all told the show on Twitter & YT exactly how we felt, looks like out of touch execs that still picture television broadcasting like 70's variety shows won. I was so afraid of this once everyone else started bringing their audience back... even Seth sounded convinced this was a better show! More than a little. Without the audience, Seth's show became unique and created its own niche, unlike every single other late-night talk show, that was just awkward and/or unfunny without an audience obediently laughing at canned, predictable jokes. Honestly, you could swap hosts between the other shows and nothing would actually change. Meanwhile, Seth's show _sans_ audience brought us the precious jewel that is Corrections and has shifted the tone of the jokes to lean into the awkwardness and weirdness to become hilariously funny and self-referencing. It will be a true shame to lose that.

for most hosts and guests its weird though. Many of them are used to audiences, responding to their reactions, etc. Like when they're late saying boo, or they just boo some part of a pretty narly summary, or point to the one nutter in the audience. Stephen Colbert missed it a lot and many of his guests said it was awkward without an audience. Seth could do without it, I think... But I fear the worst. At least it's a live audience. And maybe they too now realise they should tone down a little ;) Still fearing the worst xD

One thing that should be mentioned about the German election: The voting was on Sunday and the results were final on MONDAY. And it had a 76,6 % voter turnout. Even at best, I doubt that US election results even COULD be final by Wednesday. THAT'S how you do elections... And without ANY voting machines. All votes were either per mail-in (~40 %) or personally in voting locations.

I have to admit that I really enjoyed Seth's summary of our recent election. You should really think about making that a regular segment: Foreign politics through the eyes of Americans. Could be fun.

No the results aren't off: they showed the percentage of won Bundestag seats instead of the percentage of votes: e.g. SPD: 25,7% votes -> 206 Seats -> 206/735 = ca 28,0% of the seats

for Non-Germans: The difference in the percentages comes from the fact that there is a electoral threshold/blocking clause of 5% of the votes or winning three constituencies(direct mandates). Meaning, there are parties that together got about 8.6% of the vote, which are not represented in the Bundestag.

i agree! I really hope he finds a way not to have it turned into an idiot applause show.. Colbert was great without an audience and yes, he’s still great but there is no flow, it’s annoying

@@alumpyhorse Definitely much prefer these shows without an audience. The timing of the jokes is better, the hosts are more relaxed, and I think there is more ad libbing without an audience. Colbert has always been my fave, but I hardly watch him anymore with that annoying shrieking chanting audience.

Throughout the pandemic I kept my sanity watching several shows regularly. Seth rose to the top. He’s the CHAMP! My other favorite (not humorous) is Beau of the fifth column.

Yes!! Beau of the Fifth Column is some of the best , most balanced, and intelligent content around! Also, if science is an interest, Anton Petrov is a wonderful person, and very close to one million viewers (I signed on at 300k; couldn't be happier for him if he was family)!

They just did a calculation and his crazy rambling isn't worth the legal trouble with Dominion. Especially as he's probably not bringing in enough viewers and surveys say people are tired of him. Plus he's got no power being out of the white house now he is actually irrelevant. Fox doesn't do loyalty so now he offers them nothing why would they give him air time.

As a German being quite frustrated that there wasn't a socialist-green majority I was glad you quickly abandoned the German election, although I am quite interested how you would have explained the whole System with First Vote and Second Vote etc. (Yes we Germans basically have 2 Votes in every election)

I am saddened that Seth focused on that Rudy guy instead of the German elections... I would have loved to hear Seth's( writer's) take on the German elections. Rudy is such a has been and not worth my time. I kept hoping that Seth would get back to the real stuff.
