It’s one thing when the other late game opposite a big blockbuster is on the West Coast Example: 2009 Week 8, Panthers/Cardinals was on at the same time as Favre Bowl II on FOX when #4 returned to Lambeau This…. Is absurd
I don't think this was a Fox call, but a call by the regional authorities (Particularly the NC Highway patrol, NCDOT, and Local Law enforcement). Reason I say that is that there's a NASCAR Race that same weekend in Charlotte area that starts at 2:00 or 2:30. While the race track and the stadium are in opposite sides of Charlotte (the Track is technically in a different city, while the Stadium is in downtown Charlotte), since there's very little public transit in the area, if both were in the 1:00-2:00 window, the main interstates will be clogged, as race fans would be heading in one direction, while football fans in a different direction. By giving the NFL game the 4:25 slot minimizes this, as instead of leaving early in the morning to tailgate for the Football game, at the same time NASCAR fans are heading to tallgate, the football fans will be able to leave later, as most NASCAR fans would be at the track at the time the football fans are heading to the game. As to why Fox over CBS? That would've given CBS 3 4:05 games, and the NFL doesn't like to schedule more than 2 4:00 games for the Singleheader network. Until recently (2021 was the first time IIRC the NFL did this), for these reasons, the NFL treated the Charlotte NASCAR weekend like a MLB conflict by having Carolina either 1) Play on the road, 2) on bye, or 3) playing at home on TNF, SNF, or MNF
Been to Concord entering and leaving (both coke 600 weekend and the Roval weekend) getting out of Concord to even the hotel in same city not far way with the car traffic was bad for one of the events I been to which was the Roval. In fact 2022 Roval weekend was also same day as San Fransico vs panthers game. Race started at 2pm and eneded around 5ish and the game started 4:05pm. So in way it gives the highways and interstates a repeve since the Roval race is shorter than the NFL game which a 4:05pm would be over by 7:30pm ish. Hence this is confirmed by post above and me personal. oh for FYI Christpher Bell won the 2022 Roval Race and had a monster push to the final four championship that I saw in person seeing one of the monster push, also the MELON WALLRIDE IN MARTINSVILLE WEEKS later.
@@ElFuego35 agree made a difference placing a 4:05 game when by that point the roval race would be say stage 3 by that point, the local authorities made good moves. Its funny next day in the airport for me going to flgiht back home in NJ, I seen so many 49ers fans traveling it felt like SFO than CLT lmao
Yep, I heard 2021 was rough, as the NFL gave a 1:00 game to Carolina that weekend. After that is likely when the NFL was told "if you schedule a game on the Day of the NASCAR race, place it in the 4:00 or 8:00 slots, as we can't handle it being at 1:00. BTW, my first one was deleted b/c I thought It was with a different comment on a different video..
The Bengals play the Chiefs in KC again this season. It depends upon either the schedule rotation of divisions or the schedule based on the place in the standings.
Here a fun fact: In NC, including their primetime games and Amazon the Dallas Cowboys was shown on local networks in every single week (except week 8 vs Rams). Probably the did this give the state a break from watching the Cowboys
Duh I think I see the logic there thanks to someone who already commented and you brought up simular issues with MLB and NFL schedules and yes you can include NASCAR it's LOGISTICS DUH!
The 2009 Browns/Lions matchup was a "Game of the Weak" (on paper) that became the "Game of the Week" (in actuality). I'm personally upset that anytime the Bengals get a 4:25 start, there's been at least one other game in that time slot. That hasn't changed this year, with their games against the Chiefs and Eagles.
I've been a Lions fan for 50 years, but I live 80 miles north of Charlotte in North Carolina. Believe me, most Panther fans would rather see Cowboys-Lions. Some for Dallas a few like me for the Lions, and some because the Panthers suck.
