They will be able to compete. That’s not it. The issue is that he is a big fish in a little pond in the Big 12. He was the shark. In the SEC, Riley and OU would be one of 5-6 sharks. OU will compete. OU will win in the SEC - a lot. He just wouldn’t be winning 6 to 7 straight conf titles like he had in the Big 12. Can do that in a conf that is worse than Big 12 and even worse than ACC with the PAC 12. Just will be a few years of rebuilding before it’s back to that with Trojans.

Glad he left, because you don't want a coach who's not all in. Oklahoma is not the greatest program, but the people will treat the coaches and their family like royalty for life. Also the players are remembered. There's no pro team to compete with. If a coach doesn't think $100+ million over a career is not enough (salary and endorsements), then they can go to USC.

Rich is right, he didn’t want to compete in the SEC. Look at Clemson-they run through the ACC almost every year and no one can touch them. Riley is thinking he can do the same thing at USC, roll through a pretty weak conference and compete nationally fairly quickly because outside of Oregon his only real competition is Utah. Utah is a good program and develops well with tough players but I think Riley would rather deal with Utah instead of Bama, LSU, Georgia, etc.

Get to be wealthy at a storied program in Los Angeles vs. being a wealthy man wealthy at a storied program in Norman. Los Angeles is easily the better choice. His kids will emphatiically thank him for this move when they become young adults. Read a story about Steve Alford when he was at UCLA. He was worried how his wife would adjust to Southern California after living in small towns her entire life. His wife loved living the wealthy lifestyle in LA more than he did. He'll certainly get SC to the top of the Pac12 heap, but if SC fans want a NC...they better hope he gets better at developing players and instilling a "hard nose/physical" approach to defense...because he sure as hell didn't do that at OU.
