Tip #2 the ignition coil. Went outside to crank up the ole fox one day and she didn’t start. Sat there like a mad man for 15 minutes trying to figure the car out. Low and behold it was the yellow wire on the coil. Came unplugged when I was organizing wires under there. Good stuff!👍🏻

Fox body I bought had been sitting for a while. Went to fill it up the day I bought it & it started pouring gas on the ground. Panicked thinking it was the fuel tank but it was just the rubber seal on the filler neck going into the tank. Replaced it & no problems since. Apparently it’s a common problem if the car’s been sitting. Just something to keep in mind if starts pouring gas one day while you’re at the pump. Don’t panic!!! Lol

If your clutch isn’t engaging or not disengaging look to the stock plastic quadrant, which is two pieces. Do yourself a favor and get an aluminum quadrant, adjustable clutch cable, and firewall adjuster. If your flywheel and clutch are good it will make a night and day difference. The quadrant is a pain to install but adjustment is easy. And great video brother!

I spent hundreds of dollars replacing sensors on my fox over a couple of years, and always chased weird issues and got used to how it ran. Then I thought about how my car was an automatic and was swapped to a manual, ECU and O2 harness as well. Then I found out about the jumper wire on the O2 harness connector, main harness side. Apparently, if you have an automatic fox (A9P ECU), and swap it to a manual AND swap to a A9L ECU, the pinout is different in the ECU and the harness jumper wire will feed battery voltage to the 5v supply to various engine sensors. I know, I kept replacing sensors without connecting the dots on my pre-owned, pre-modded fox. She's purring and happy now that I re-pinned that wire, but it's something every owner should know since it's possible their tranny was converted! And how wiring harnesses are slightly different through the years! Love the channel and the content, keep it going man!

I did a motor swap a year ago and struggled for the longest time to get my car to idle/ set the timing correctly. I put in a distributor, balancer, fuel pump, added extra grounds, and all it needed was the orange wire properly grounded. Check your grounds!

That dimmer switch can also cause all the exterior running lights to turn off too. I got pulled over by a cop for that one night, and after I jiggled the switch, the lights came back on. I really should replace it one day. Great info and looking forward to more!

If you encounter that your turn signals have stopped working. Check the plugs behind the hazard switch. Re adjust and if no other issues; should get you blinking again.
@itmbaker
@itmbaker 3 года назад
Things I’ve learned so far from mine: (1) bad TPS will keep your car from starting as it will prevent the injectors from getting an electrical pulse; (2) those front turn signal lamps have sockets that will sometimes fuse to the bulb and keep it from working (or blow your fuse - ask me how I know lol); (3) WD-40 revived my door latches...if only I didn’t break a door handle in the process beforehand!; (4) some of those early 87-93 dimmer switches have a metal case...they’re easy to get to the contacts that make the dimmer portion work. A lot of times that contact is corroded...and you can clean it off somewhat easily!

Awe.the inertia switch.so your fox don’t burn to the ground in a rear end collision like the cop car crown vics did
@LiquidSSSnake
@LiquidSSSnake 3 года назад
@@89gt5.0 The inertia switch came out of the Pinto fiasco I think. The cop Crown Vic fires were due to the installers putting the gun rack in with self tapping screws and not knowing they were millimeters away from the fuel tank (dumb). The inertia switch wouldn't help with a direct puncture in the tank.
@eriv4735
@eriv4735 3 года назад
@@LiquidSSSnake I’m sure the screws on the gun rack didn’t help either but even the civilian panthers had a similar issue because the straps for the gas tank had screws that would puncture the gas tank in a collision..I’m a ford fan for life but they aren’t always the smartest 🤔

Dude, every single thing you said was the truth and spot on. I spent so much time trying to find my no start issue. Turnout out to be a bad distributor. But I thought it might've been the coil, ended up getting a bad msd out the box. I went thru hell but Finally got it started. Then the fuel pump went out. Fixed that. Now my cluster took a shit and no gauges work at all. Car is a pain in the ass but i love it man. It starting to surge again, I'm suspecting the tfi might be going bad. Because that area gets so hot. I'll be changing the fuel filter first to see if it gets the car running better. But it feels like a misfire under load.

Dude, I am a 1993 Cobra owner...Bought a 1986 GT back in the day...wrecked/totaled in 1989...got back in the game in December 2012 with purchase of the 93. I subscribed to your channel a few years ago. This video is the most practical, relevant and informative I have seen your channel produce. (There have been some very good ones; however, in my opinion, this is one of the best as I desire to continue to keep my car near stock. The items mentioned here give DIYs an opportunity to keep these car running. I had the TFI issue last year. My car would start but would get me a mile or two into a drive and shut off. At first I thought it poor fuel quality. Nope. Then it would barely get to temperature prior to shutting off. Two replacements of TFIs, and other parts in attempting to remedy this issue, finally purchased a higher quality TFI and car has run fine ever since. Now, after watching this video, I have a few other items to look at during this time that a DIYer can review and possibly repair.

I am just wanting to mind my own buisness when I can see my lights are starting to flash on and off.....lol. Not a good time for that shit but made it home safe and sound. The best thing for the headlight switch is to relay the headlights, even with LEDs. Then the power draw comes straight off the battery. The only thing the switch is for then is a low current signal. Never had a headlight switch go bad after relaying the lights.
@larrylaverne9547
@larrylaverne9547 2 года назад
ALSO, the connector to the switch typically melts. Just replacing the switch is only half the job. If you don't also replace the connector within the dash, then one night, you'll be driving along and your headlight will simply go out.

Great Informative Video!!! What is the best way to jack up a GT without cracking the spoiler kit??
@satanertau2689
@satanertau2689 3 года назад
A good long,low profile jack is a good place to start. Then,make you a pair of small ramps,four/five inches tall out of layered particle board or plywood. That will gain you the clearance you need to jack where you have the most support,thick metal. I always to jack the entire front end from the center of the k-member when working upfront. You can also jack from the outer base of either lower control arm but you have to be careful,and sure of your position,that the jack doesn't slip. In the rear,I again,jack from the center usually. A jack just behind the rear pumpkin,so you don't damage the seal,is the best way to jack up the rear at one time. But again,it's important you are sure of your jack's position. You can also jack from the lower control arms in the rear but it's a bit trickier. I usually jack one side up enough to get a jack stand under one side and then jack from behind the pumpkin(rear axle) as mentioned. That's only if my ramps are already being used up front. My cars are all lowered,these are tricks that help with gt's especially,because of the clearance issues created the ground effects. If you're jacking anywhere along the ground effects,you're butchering the bottom of your car. Always use jack stands,always!

So many forums shot themselves when they made a FB page. I hate FB groups, cant reference anything for later. YT is the next best thing. Then the kids get on forums and don't know how to properly format a question, it's like a FB post.

Forums seem more suited for Tech. Decades of information out there on forums got the Foxbody. FB isn’t easy searchable.

I still go to the forums with problems first. This page is ok,I wouldn't call it great. Videos are great for how to's but the forums seem better at actually flushing out a problem. It would be even better if people followed up on their own posts,which seems to cause a disappearing act once the apparent problem has been solved.
