@@karlschmidt2811 I guess I should have followed up with it. Once I realized it was high-carbon, probably 4140 or something like that, I got the whole pipe very hot and left the torch going through the exhaust to maintain the heat while I welded. Then I got to the weld area's glowing slightly, and then let the torch flow through the pipe, turning it down slowly over about 45 minutes. I've learned about 4 hours on it, maybe more. I was going to wait and make sure it was good before I produced a follow-up video. But so far so still good.
