I really really wanted to fly this wing today (Canada Day), but it looks like the weather will not co-operate. So, I'm posting this build video without a maiden flight.
The wing is 96 inches by 48 inches
Here are the CG calculator specifics for this build. Remember, at this point I don't even know how/if it will fly.

How do you know the angles to cut? How do you measure the angles?
@UnlimitedVertical

This was quite a long time ago so I don't remember (and I've long since dismantled it). I basically scaled up a smaller KFM2 design.

I'm curious these stepped airfoil seem to be more work than traditional ones why use them?
@UnlimitedVertical
@UnlimitedVertical 7 дней назад
Hmmm, not sure that it is more work..unless you have a bunch of tools available that I don't have (wire cutter or cnc equipment) then sculpting a traditional airfoil would be more work. If you're comparing it so something like the "armin wing" this is more durable in a crash and I find it easier to build...that said I've also built my share of traditional airfoil using dollar tree foamboard and they work pretty well. This monstrosity isn't necessarily the best example for the stepped airfoil, most of my KFm airfoil wings are 48" or less and the foam is only 1/2" or less and easier to cut.

great job mate. tempted. What's the music please?
@improveenglishnow4052

ur kf foils have the big thick bit tapering to the tips, and are about half the chord before elevons. Mine are half the chord with elevons. Are yours better?
@UnlimitedVertical
@UnlimitedVertical 8 лет назад
I would not look to this design for tips :-) I was merely trying to maximize the width and scaled another design as much as I could to fit a 4x8 sheet. It did not fly great, but that was due to 2 issues. 1) needed more power, 2) needed more nose weight (CG had it tail heavy). Other changes would have been to use thinner foam, this was too thick (too much cross sectional area cutting through the air).

What size motor and battery setup are you going with?
@chrislohtt1960

Can't wait to see it fly. Love wings. Made a FT Kraken flew great but got flipped by a gust when landing and crashed. What are the specs of your wing, dimensions and the motor setup?
@UnlimitedVertical
@UnlimitedVertical 10 лет назад
Hi Christopher. There is a link in the description which shows the dimensions (well, most of them). The motor is mentioned in the video. It's a Turnigy 3548/4 1100KV motor. It puts out 910W. It won't be enough for 1:1 thrust/weight, but should be enough to fly

UnlimitedVertical How about the Cord width and tip lengths. I am never good at estimating the wings. I have NTM Prop Drive 42-38 750kv 785 w and a 28-36 2200 kv 696w which do you think will be better suited for the wing.
@UnlimitedVertical
@UnlimitedVertical 10 лет назад
Christopher Loh The link in the description shows those dimensions, but here they are again : root chord - 30", tip chord - 20", sweep 28". Out of those motors, the 4238 would be a better choice. I would not recommend building this wing until I have had a chance to maiden mine. At this point I do not know if it is a good flyer or not.

awesome plane! i might build one myself too. and great soundtrack! what are names of those songs?
@UnlimitedVertical
@UnlimitedVertical 9 лет назад
If you build one, use 1" foam instead of 1 1/2"...this is too thick, too much drag. Also, go thinner on the elevons, that way you don't need two servos for each. Can't remember the music, either from youtube's royalty free music, or from PowerDirector's built in royalty free music.

I wanted to fly it today, but it is much too windy for a maiden. The first nice day that I have that I am not at work I will put it in the air :-) Thanks for the comment

Kim sørensen Kim, your English is much better than my Danish...I am certain of that :-) It was windy yesterday right up until about 8pm. I did go out flying, bu t left the big wing at home. Hopefully next weekend I'll get it in the air.

You will need to give it a wing profile for it to fly... this wont make it.
