At the 2:10 mark of the original video, you said his point was "that we just don't really know what to say about homosexuality." And at 2:40, you say he speaks of us evolving to a point where we have "virtuous monogamous homosexual relationships", when he never speaks of them as virtuous. He condemns them. At 6:48 of his video, Fr Casey speaks of same sex acts (and all acts outside of man-woman marriage where the proper ends are directed toward the union of the couple and procreation) with the phrase "Never have been, nor ever will be, permitted." Trent Horn rightly points out in his rebuttal to Fr Casey that he is conceding too many LGBT revisions, but he's not teaching heresy. And at least one example where Fr Casey shows he personally recognizes the Bible's condemnation is his section on Leviticus, where he reads the condemnation. He then says the LGBT interlocutor will argue this is a law of Moses we are no longer bound by. And then Fr Casey says "and even though WE KNOW that moral truths are part of the eternal law and do not change, some may not be convinced." He's clearly stating that he sees this as an eternal condemnation and has good grounds for believing so; but he's also saying that, simply because it's in Leviticus, some will incorrectly deem it as "just Levitical law". He's describing scenarios of engaging with people who've already made their minds up on what all these passages mean, and yet they will never be able to point to the Bible and show a positive portrayal of same sex acts like we see consistently with man-woman marriage and imagery. I wholeheartedly agree with you, Fr Casey concedes too much as he (in some cases, hypothetically) grants many of the LGBT arguments while saying another case can be made that may be more convincing. But in the weakened case Fr Casey prefers, he still upholds marriage and calls out sex outside of marriage as sinful. And to that end, he should not be lumped in with Catholics who present the LGBT case without condemnation.

But, none of the three main branches, which are the Observants, the Conventuals, and the Capuchins are reliably orthodox. There are certainly solid members of all three, but orthodoxy can’t be presumed among any. So, he can confidently blurt out his “feelings” on the subject but not keep comments on to hear Christ’s sheep, whom Christ tells him TO FEED, & communicate with them on the feedback? What if they have a question? What if they have a correction that may be appropriate? Are we not open to hear such? I find it totally lacking priestly courage to drop a cocky confident bomb and then flip off comments. I pray that isn’t true as Jesus will ask him about that at some point.
"Father" James Martin's documentary (propaganda reel, that is) "Building a Bridge" also has the comments turned off. Fr. Casey Cole knows exactly what he's doing. He criticizes all solid scriptural arguments, basing those critiques on liberal theologians who put ideologies above Christ, and then misleads his viewers to see one of the weakest and more easily broken arguments on God condemnation of homosexuality: the fact there's no good portrayal of this in the Bible. If I remember correctly he didn't touch the Catechism once, nor mentioned Church Fathers or Church Doctors. I've heard his content changed a lot after he became the pupil of some priest who is more liberal than Fr. Martin, but I can't recall the name.

And I'm sure he quoted the catechism some times, but I'd imagine he relied on some small isolated texts to push his progressive views, or to give some resemblance of orthodoxy between the drops of heterodoxy, poisoning uneducated Catholics with heresy in homeopathic doses. And I'm sorry, but the Catechism is always part of the question. He purposely isolated the Bible and dismissed all the best arguments in order to mislead people. He not choosing to not quote Patristic interpretations of said passages while giving focus on modernist theologians shows his intention and who he truly serves.

Fr., I respect your work; however, I am disappointed in this video. I don't think this video properly represented Fr Casey’s video. Overall, I think Casey's message was correct. What I took away from Fr. Casey's video: 1) the problem is the sin not the sinner, 2) the Bible clearly condemns adultery, and 3) one should look to Jesus's teaching on marriage and one can see that marriage is between a man and woman, where committing homosexual acts is inherently adultery. The video states that impossible to see homosexual "unions" as being compatible with marriage as defined by Jesus. Looking to Jesus as the source is always the strongest argument. While I too disagreed with much of Casey's hypothetical arguments, they were hypothetical and not necessarily his argument but a way to advocate for a different approach to the subject matter while holding the same conclusion that homosexual relationships are sinful.
It was very strange IMO that Fr. Casey felt that there wasn’t much in the Bible about homosexuality and he seemed to understand how that leads to confusion around homosexuality when, even if homosexuality was never uttered in scripture - sex before marriage IS considered a sin, Jesus states that marriage is between a man and a woman, and sex that isn’t open to the possibility of LIFE is considered sinful (according to the Catholic Church). So by all accounts it is very obvious that a homosexual relationship of any kind, married legally or not, would require one to engage in sin. You really don’t have to do a lot of digging into the Bible looking specifically for passages about homosexuality in order to conclude that.

Casey felt there wasn't much on homosexuality" but then argue close to the same point he was making. 100% agree with what you say after that quote, and I think that was a primary point of his video too.
That video from Fr Casey really disturbed me and I sat for a while after I watched it trying to put my finger on why I felt so sick about it even though he seemed to have affirmed church teaching in the end. In the past, I've given him the benefit of the doubt despite being critical of his approach. But his most recent video introduced or reaffirmed terrible revisionist arguments that are totally inexcusable for someone with his position to validate to people who likely don't know better. I was so glad when Trent Horn responded how he did, and I'm glad you're doing the same. That Fr Casey video sowed so much unnecessary confusion and the clarity of the responses against it is much needed. I really pray that Fr Casey sees the error in what he did and makes it right. He has a large audience and judging by the comment section for a lot of them he is the biggest Christian voice they're regularly hearing.
With the risk of getting blocked, I have to state how I perceived Fr. Casey’s video. - Using the Bible to condemn homosexuality doesn’t work because some people could interpret it favorably to support their views - it is better to know the will of God by looking at what God established and approve of: marriage between man and woman. - we can condemn the acts, but condemning or ostracizing a person simply because of their sexual orientation is wrong I for one don’t think that making those points would make one a heretic or spawn of satan.
The Will of God for Christians should always start with Jesus The Christ and what He said. Be suspicious of what claims to be Christian teaching where Christ scarcely gets a mention
All the mortal sins that you mentioned can separate us from God, but sodomy does not only separate one from God, it cries to Heaven for vengeance. Your argument was so sound, thank you, Father. When he said that this is “new” and didn’t exist back then, I was immediately reminded of Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 “What has been, that will be; what has been done, that will be done. Nothing is new under the sun! Even the thing of which we say, “See, this is new!” has already existed in the ages that preceded us.” There is nothing new under the sun.
I try to be charitable with Fr. Casey I started watching him when I was considering Catholicism. However on this topic of homosexuality and the Bible he is clearly off. He is just wrong on this issue. It goes not just against the Bible it goes what is true without considering the Bible because it avoids the means and purpose of the sexual relationship How Fr. Casey seems to think that homosexual relationships didn’t exist back then is complete malarkey which he can not substantiate

You have an odd definition of charity. Charity is giving someone the benefit of the doubt, CCC 2478 to avoid the sins in CCC 2477. Following CCC 2478 was not done in this case.
The argument that says that the Bible or even early Christians did understand certain social conditions like we understand today is the greatest type of heresy that borders on blasphemy. It presupposes that the Holy Spirit didn’t send the apostles the grace of truth and knowledge of all Jesus taught. It then severs the apostolic line of authority that the current magisterium relies on. If doctrine from the past was wrong, how can you expect me to believe that current teaching won’t be proven wrong in the future?
Blessings Father Jason! I was a former Franciscan Friar for aboutr 10 years. Started with the Capuchins and ended with the Conventual Friars. There was always preferential treatment given to the homosexual friars whom considered that Celibacy was only applicable to those of us Heterosexual Friars for the same very reasons that you are speaking off. Sadly in the United States there is a tremendous move within the Franciscan Order towards permissible homosexual orientation and activity. During my final years with the Conventuals, myself and my fellow heterosexual friars in formation where continually harrassed and were expected to see a psychologist under the guise of being homophobic. We were not homophobic, but rather opposed the homosexual friars being active in their orientation which is counter to the gospel call to conversion. Thank you so much Father for the clarification. I get also tired of people saying homosexuals are born that way. They may have an inclination but they don't have to act on it. I was born with a vicious Irish temper and as a kid someone said something to me I punched him in the face. I had to learn to control that or I would have wound up in jail as an adult I have alcoholics on both sides of the family so I've always been careful around alcohol to make sure I don't fall into that trap. Just because someone has an inclination doesn't mean they have to go that route. We all have something usually multiple things that draws to sin it doesn't mean we just have to go with whatever we feel. Bless you father

As a non-Christian, it's very informative to see this fine example of Christian love and charity, filled with the spirit of grace. I always knew Jesus really couldn't have meant it when he said, "Love your enemies," or "He who is without sin cast the first stone," or "judge not lest you be judged," etc.
You're the second I've seen point this out. I first heard of it from Trent Horn. I like how he went over it and showed clips. I've seen other things from Fr. Casey that were off. It's been awhile since I saw videos of his. What a shame.
Trent's video is soooo much better. Not only does he directly address the arguments, but he recognizes that Fr Casey still says homosexual acts aren't permissible, just using different arguments. This video does no such thing and horribly misrepresents Fr Casey's point.
@pjelpers I can see that. I don't like the derogatory name he calls Fr. Casey. That's not right. I've really tried culling back in watching any Catholic media, because there's so much trash talk about priests, and name calling. It stirs up anger in others, and that is of the devil. People like to make excuses and call it riteous anger, but it's not. There is no need to call names, as that's disrespectful, and I'm sure God is not happy with all the infighting, slander and calumny that is so rampant throughout His Church. Trent Horne did a fantastic job and I'd recommend people watch his video.
We are supposed to love everyone, including lgqbt. We are to educate them and everyone else on Gods word. We are never supposed to condemn them or harm them. At the same time, we cannot allow satans deceiving and perversity to run rampant.
This is not the first time he’s done this. He also put out an extremely harmful video where he calls into question the historical reliability of the gospels based on “modern scholarship”. He then got snappy with Trent Horn of all people, and acted extremely childish on Twitter when Trent rebutted him. He believes he is an expert just because he went to seminary and claims he has the prevailing scholastic view on everything. His arrogance and liberal views are dangerous with his growing audience.
Fr. Casey has come under scrutiny now because of the video on homosexuality but I remember a video from a few years ago he made about Vatican 2. He repeated all of the propaganda about how the council uncovered a “more ancient” tradition of Christianity that had been dormant for 500+ years. I knew then that there was a problem. The fact that a young priest today genuinely believes that stuff is concerning.

It is with charity and love that we call out erroneous messages when we see and hear them. I don't want any soul, including the soul of Fr. Casey to suffer the pains of hell. So calling him out and reporting his messages as being false, on RU-vid, is a charitable response.
The essence of love is the desire for all living beings to find true happiness. When we want the best for ALL creatures, then we can honestly say that we love everybody equally. One who appears to love one person more than another, in fact, loves nobody. True, unconditional love revolves around sacrificing one’s selfish desires for those of his or her SUPERIORS, whether that be one's parents, husband, employer, or spiritual master, even if they are imperfect. Should a child disobey its mother just because the mother is flawed? Of course not! This paradigm is applicable to EVERYONE, without exception. The problem is that people have been lied to in regards to homosexuality. Homosexuality is not natural and it’s not normal. It’s an arrested psychosexual state, and it is always a sin. A very grave sin. All homosexuals, like all sinners, have to repent. Homosexuals do not want to repent. Even after having been an atheist for more than a decade before coming to Christ, listening to Fr. Casey for the first time after converting to Christianity, I knew he was not be trusted with the word of God. Physiognomy says it all: he's an innocent enough looking man that speaks in a calming, reassuring voice, but he has a forked tongue. Anyone with a modicum of discernment can see right through his deception. May he repent of his wickedness.
Thank you Fr. Jason for saying it clearly. I've encountered priests like Fr. Casey. Usually, they present duplicitous teaching. In other words they give you official Church teaching and then counter with their point of view in opposition. If you report the matter to the diocese they will tell you that the priest did present the Church teaching after all. The problem is a priest is looked upon by the laity as being authoritative.

It came in consequence to the flight for so many Priests and nuns from their callings especially after 1968, and the takeover off so many religious orders by liberals. The homosexual priests who has been hiding looked at their opportunity and took over the emptying seminaries and of course were not leaving to take wives. I recall talking to a military chaplain attached to the Landstuhl regional hospital. He had been 2nd in charge of one such and sadly described how almost all the seminarians had just left. The bishops just panicked, I think, to lose their officer corps, which like the US army after Vietnam just got hollowed out. In their place they took anyone, feeling justified I guess by the mental health professions sudden acceptance of homosexuality. But, speaking as someone who welcomed the Council, I have come to think of it as being a great failure, not so much of what the documents say, as an empowerment of revolutionaries in the Church. Whatever the intentions of John XXIII and Paul VI, they misread the times. They under estimated the amount of discontent , even disaffection in the priesthood and the power of cultural marxism in the West.
Just my take. I spent several years in the late 50s mulling over whether I should become Priest or not finally got married, to a Methodist girl and here I am 57 years later still married to her. Glad I made the choice because If I had been ordained I would have found myself in something like a post-Trentine Church, and what was in the midst of a second Reformation.

I'm not catholic yet, but when I was younger, I was trying to learn about the Bible, and I stumbled upon Fr. Casey. I believed what he said because I didn't know any better. It confused me, and I wasn't sure if I could trust the Bible anymore. But now, I'm okay, because I've gone back into learning a bit more at a time, and I've come to realize that those teachings were wrong.

Not sure if Fr Charon watched the entire video. Fr Cole, at the end, does say that the Church condemns the homosexual lifestyle. The point of the video was that scripture does not clearly condemn it. This comes from a Modernist twisting of Leviticus and St Paul’s writings. I notice Fr Cole has turned off the comment section.

Agreed. Mr. Horn offered fraternal correction in truth and love. Beautifully done. The arguably angrier, name calling approach here makes Fr. Jason’s own declaration of “love the sinner, hate the sin” seem a bit disingenuous. Let’s pray for conversion of heart all the way around.
Absolutely. I was honestly a bit stunned by his video. He always has a bit of a "big tent" attitude toward tougher subjects. Which is unfortunately not good. People need a little tough love regarding their sin. They don't need to be utterly dumped on, but it should be made clear that the sin is not good.

Here, on Kennedy Hall's recommendation. Casey told me I am in grave sin for forcefully criticizing his other pro-LGBT videos, where he, like Francis, uses the corporal acts of mercy - in order to ignore calling sinners, in mortal sin, to the sacraments and salvation.
I think you meant was the "Spiritual Work of Mercy" instead of the "Corporal Works of Mercy." To admonish sinners is one of the 7 Spiritual Works of Mercies.
He is too deeply invested in his errors to back away. Like Luther, having found HIS truth, he will probably stay where he is. To be sure, we are all tempted to do the same.
When I went through my undergraduate studies in the 1990s at a private Catholic college, I was stunned at the student and faculty dismissal of the centuries of wisdom. Instead, they'd insist on modern science and culture as a herald of this new sophisticated, nuanced "enlightenment." They just could not grasp their own arrogance and hubris that despite acknowledging there has been no new divine revelation that they were free to reinterpret, well, EVERYTHING.
