Re: suffering and pain before death- sometimes God allows this to a person as a form of purgatory on earth. Some suffering souls ask to make reparations for others, as well as their own sins, and God allows suffering for the person's soul to gain holiness. Read the Douey Rheimes bible and see what God says He will accept and reject and know He is telling us the truth. It is a narrow gate, a steep and rocky climb, and few find it. It involves carrying heavy crosses willingly.
If we unite our sufferings to Christ's sufferings, then they habe eternal value. Like St. Paul when he mentions his sufferings as what makes up for what is lacking in Christ's sufferings, that is (His bride) tge church. If you google St. Paul's sufferings, the exact quote should come up. As for purgatory, Christ teaches that the sin against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven in this life ORTHENEXT. In Heaven, all forgiving is already accomplished, so an interment of purging any leftovers to this present world "as if through fire" as Christ teaches in Holy scripture (google that, too, to get exact scripture passage). I thank God for our Holiness Pope Francis. He preaches love and acceptance. Not hate and discrimination. I believe Christ and Our Lady would preach love and acceptance.
God is merciful but He is also just, and He WILL send sinners to hell for not following his laws. It is proper to hate sin because it separates people from God. The only true compassion involves telling the truth. You cannot condone sin and call yourself a Catholic. Christ told the woman who was about to be stoned to go and sin no more. He didn't tell her it was OK to keep doing what she was doing. God the Father blew Sodom and Gomorrah off the map and sent the great flood to wipe the sinful off the Earth. I don't know what made-up God you're serving. If you're not following the God of The Bible then you're off target and probably following the father of lies off a cliff into the abyss.

No one comes to the Father except through Jesus, and no one would have gotten to Jesus except through Mary's yes. She deserves our respect and veneration and that's what we give her.
