At TED2010, mathematics legend Benoit Mandelbrot develops a theme he first discussed at TED in 1984 -- the extreme complexity of roughness and the way that fractal math can find order within patterns that seem unknowably complicated.

This talk reminds me of an aspect of chaos theory: that systems which are given the ability to become complex will. It can be a simple system, like a double pendulum however complex variation can arise from a simple set of rules and the freedom of the system. Complexity then does not necessarily need complex rules, rather a plane of possibility is the key ingredient for complexity.

That might be because this is The Person that made chaos cool. If you Google his name it should become clear, (insert repeated patter complexity joke).
