Frame Reinforcement DIY
In this video I reinforce or box the very front of the frame to help support a bumper and winch in the future. I use some 3/16 plate and some solid round bar that I drilled out to tie everything together. I run out of MIG gas in the middle of the project and you get to see how bad a stick welder I am! I did go back several months later once we got some MIG gas and fixed a few spots that I didn’t like. Stick around to the end of the video to see my awesome stick welding skills. Here is a cheap set of transfer punches. They are great if you want to start doing some fab work and should last

Thank you for your video. I am in Europe and I have bought a 1976 K20. Could you give me some more detail on these reinforcements please (width of the pipes/if and where you bought the crossmember ...)? Best

Nice work. The cucv front bumper mounts do something similar but not as beefy as your solution.

Thank you for posting this. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on some thing. I want to increase the cargo and tow weight on my 1986 GMC high sierra K 15. Is there a way to do that and how can I do it effectively? maybe this will give you an idea for a video. But if not, if you could guide me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. God bless you and your family. Duane.

Thanks for your question. You could simply add some helper springs to the rear. That will help with cargo load but I wouldn't exceed the original tow rating. There is no easy way to increase a tow rating. Sure you could box in your frame. But if you were to be involved in an accident and your cargo or tow weight is greater than your rating, it's not going to go well for you. The only correct way I know (I'm sure there are other ways) to tow more weight and accomplish what you are wanting is to swap your body on to a higher rated frame and running gear. Thanks for watching!
