I had no idea porcupines sounded like that! Your whistling back to the bird brought back nice memories. When my mom was alive she and I would sit on her front porch and whistle to the phainopepla who loved her white mulberry tree. He would whistle back to us and this went on a long time! I’m so impressed with how your building is coming along.

That's going to be a sweet little room, love the big window toward the water. I'm taking all the pointers I can from your build videos. Seven-year-old granddaughter has drawn up plans for a three story playhouse that we're supposed to build this Summer. I told her I don't know how to build a house, she said, we can learn; can't really argue with that, lol. Loved when you were singing back and forth with the bird, and loved hearing the porcupine's song as well. Thank you for the video, for taking three times as long to do everything because you are filming; your effort is appreciated. Have an awesome weekend.

Glad to be back. Been busy with work and learning new math. Been away from the channel for a year, but popped into.my head to return and see how the canin looks but mostly curious about the inside, and here the universe called me. Perfect timing. And i get to seenthe fruits of your labor. Redting today diento my back as well. Working in yard trimming branches. Taking a break. Love that cute vintage microwave 😊 cant wait for part two. I just use a.fremch press for making coffee. Heat up water in microwave and then pour into press...and press.

We love your videos! Whether you are renovating a rv, your cabin or your backpacking! I love your creativity and your ability to thoughtfully and creatively repurpose items that most people see as just another contribution to the landfill! With regard to your propane stove, have you thought about using a 20 lb propane tank and cooking outside? I suppose you might even consider bringing it in on those rainy days when no one is looking! Keep up the good work!!!

That new space will be nice to have and even nicer to know that you built it. When I lived in TN there were storms that would knock out power regularly and we'd cook on the propane grill outside. Very handy and didn't heat up the house.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. There was a joke where the homeowner was hooting at owls at night and got a reply. Over time, he began to notice patterns in the hoots and started developing a interspecies language theory, logging their nightly conversations. One day the neighbor’s wife is visiting and he overhears “My dang husband spends all night hooting at owls!” “So does mine!”

If you don't want to have a portable propane tank in your cabin, you could always get a one hob butane stove. They are safe indoors and I've used mine during power outages. Because it's small and the butane canister fits inside, it can be used anywhere, inside and out or in your camper. Rain water and your filter are a good combination. A composting toilet (that you build yourself) will save you the cost of a septic tank. Any grey water you produce can be taken from the cabin in a proper trough, and out to water the trees or a garden or fruit bushes. It's always fun to see what you're up to. I follow builds by professional builders and I find builds like this just as interesting. You are very resourceful. On another note, if you want the most energy efficient way to boil water, check out an electric kettle. If you boil small amounts, make sure you get one that can do that. I have one that can boil as little as one cup. Electric kettles are nearly 100% efficient whereas microwaves are probably around 50-60%.

I agree, electric kettles are the most efficient way to boil water, but the catch is that's all they do. If you want to heat up a meal, you'd still need a stove or microwave.

Great progress on your addition. My Merlin app thinks that bird is an Eastern Phoebe. I asked the app to do the ID before you started whistling, so I think that's accurate. Wow -- I hadn't heard a porcupine before -- cool. Sorry about the fawn. Life and all that, but still sad.

Morning Slim. You could hook up your gas stove to an outside small bottle of camping gas yourself or are your regulations alot more stringent than here in England. If the Gas bottle was in a small shed with plenty of ventilation then this could be your cheap option as it's in a cabin you live in temporary. Just a few metres of rubber hose, a regulator and some jubilee clips available on Amazon could save you alot of money !! When you leave the cabin perhaps take the bottle with you. Nice job. I've heard porcupines before, but was never able to identify the source. Couldn't find the animal while it was talking. Neighbors said it was Bigfoot, they hadn't seen it either, but it was watching us. We went along with the story because it gave us something to laugh about when it rained.

Always enjoy a new video about the ups and downs of solo Slim DIY. You do so much, it's inspiring! I hope the back and the weather don't keep you from continuing your expansion plans. By the way, I use a microwave to cook my veggies, keep my teacup warmed up, and I do scrambled or poached eggs in a plastic egg cooker too. The only couple of things a microwave doesn't do well are frying, and cooking baked goods. But you know, a tiny little campfire can fix that issue. Plus a cast iron skillet with a lid. 😉 Looking forward to your progress on the cabin. Be safe Slim, cheers from Edmonton.👍😊
